    Hysteresis Switching Loops in Ag-manganite memristive interfaces

    Multilevel resistance states in silver-manganite interfaces are studied both experimentally and through a realistic model that includes as a main ingredient the oxygen vacancies diffusion under applied electric fields. The switching threshold and amplitude studied through Hysteresis Switching Loops are found to depend critically on the initial state. The associated vacancy profiles further unveil the prominent role of the effective electric field acting at the interfaces. While experimental results validate main assumptions of the model, the simulations allow to disentangle the microscopic mechanisms behind the resistive switching in metal-transition metal oxide interfaces.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures, to be published in Jour. of Appl.     Band-width control in a perovskite-type 3d^1 correlated metal Ca_1-xSr_xVO_3. II. Optical spectroscopy investigation

    Optical conductivity spectra of single crystals of Ca_1-xSr_xVO_3 have been studied to elucidate how the electronic behavior depends on the strength of the electron correlation without changing the nominal number of electrons per vanadium atom. The effective mass deduced by the analysis of the Drude-like contribution do not show critical enhancement, even though the system is close to the Mott transition. Besides the Drude-like contribution, two anomalous features were observed in the optical conductivity spectra of the intraband transition within the 3d band. These features can be assigned to transitions involving the incoherent and coherent bands near the Fermi level. The large spectral weight redistribution in this system, however, does not involve a large mass enhancement.Comment: 12 pages in a Phys. Rev. B camera-ready format with 16 EPS figures embedded.     Floristic Phenomena of the Samara Bend: The Fractal Organization of Taxonomic Diversity

    Considering the problem of taxonomic diversity as a fractal object is the aim of this article. The prerequisites for such an approach were articles with varying degrees of detail and argumentation that substantiate taxonomic diversity from the standpoint of fractal geometry. Common to these papers is that the authors in their theoretical constructs start from the Willis rule (law) describing the rank distribution of the relationship between the number of taxa and their volume. The flora of the Samara Bend (the bend of the Volga River in its middle reaches) has become an object of the research. The authors distinguish seven basic floristic areas on the Samara Bend, the boundaries of which coincide with the respective landscapes. The authors discuss the efficiency of the Willis rule (law), which approximates the relationship between the number of taxa and their volume by rank distribution. The multifractal spectrum (a generalized geometric image of generic structure) of the taxonomic diversity of vascular plants of the Samara Bend is presented.     Fermi Surface of 3d^1 Perovskite CaVO3 Near the Mott Transition

    We present a detailed de Haas van Alphen effect study of the perovskite CaVO3, offering an unprecedented test of electronic structure calculations in a 3d transition metal oxide. Our experimental and calculated Fermi surfaces are in good agreement -- but only if we ignore large orthorhombic distortions of the cubic perovskite structure. Subtle discrepancies may shed light on an apparent conflict between the low energy properties of CaVO3, which are those of a simple metal, and high energy probes which reveal strong correlations that place CaVO3 on the verge of a metal-insulator transition.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures (REVTeX

    The article describes the features of the modification of cast iron, high chrome cast iron and steel. It is shown that the modification of cast iron complex modifier should be based on the thickness of the walls of castings, and for steel and high chrome cast iron, it is beneficial to the macro and microstructure. The data confirming the removal of transcrystallization and size reduction microand macrostructure of castings in various types of iron-carbon alloys.     The scientific research that has become the subject of consideration in this article is related to assessment of the influence of geophysical factors on sustainable functioning of transport systems and the system analysis of their impact on the transport infrastructure at the Arctic latitudes. The research is a new direction in the field of study of operational reliability of transport systems and scientific support for development of transport infrastructure in the Russian Arctic.The paper touches upon the issues of reliability and possible failures of technical equipment under the influence of space weather, and also discusses multifaceted problems of safety and efficiency of development of transport systems considering new data on the structure and properties of the lithosphere referring to thawing of permafrost and mineral deposits. A separate section is devoted to new information on seismic activity and seismic hazard assessment in areas of operation and promising development of the transport infrastructure of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation (AZRF).Intellectual accounting and generalisation of the obtained interdisciplinary results together with their visualisation are provided by geoinformatics methods. The paper presents also the results of adoption of modern geodatabase management systems, of the application of modern technologies of geoportals and interactive spherical visualisations for qualitative presentation of new geophysical knowledge obtained in the course of research.Научные исследования, ставшие предметом рассмотрения в этой статье, связаны с оценкой влияния геофизических факторов на устойчивое функционирование транспортных систем и системным анализом их воздействия на транспортную инфраструктуру в арктических широтах. Они являются новым направлением в области изучения эксплуатационной надёжности транспортных систем и научного сопровождения развития транспортной инфраструктуры в российской Арктике.В работе затронуты вопросы надёжности и возможных отказов технических средств под влиянием космической погоды. Также обсуждаются комплексные проблемы безопасности и эффективности развития транспортных систем с учётом новых данных о строении и свойствах литосферы, связанных с растеплением многолетнемёрзлых пород и месторождений полезных ископаемых. Отдельный раздел посвящён новым сведениям о сейсмической активности и оценке сейсмической опасности в районах эксплуатации и перспективного развития транспортной инфраструктуры Арктической зоны Российской Федерации (АЗРФ).Интеллектуальный учёт, обобщение получаемых междисциплинарных результатов и их визуализация обеспечиваются методами геоинформатики.     Autocrine laminin-5 ligates α6β4 integrin and activates RAC and NFκB to mediate anchorage-independent survival of mammary tumors

    Invasive carcinomas survive and evade apoptosis despite the absence of an exogenous basement membrane. How epithelial tumors acquire anchorage independence for survival remains poorly defined. Epithelial tumors often secrete abundant amounts of the extracellular matrix protein laminin 5 (LM-5) and frequently express α6β4 integrin. Here, we show that autocrine LM-5 mediates anchorage-independent survival in breast tumors through ligation of a wild-type, but not a cytoplasmic tail–truncated α6β4 integrin. α6β4 integrin does not mediate tumor survival through activation of ERK or AKT. Instead, the cytoplasmic tail of β4 integrin is necessary for basal and epidermal growth factor–induced RAC activity, and RAC mediates tumor survival. Indeed, a constitutively active RAC sustains the viability of mammary tumors lacking functional β1 and β4 integrin through activation of NFκB, and overexpression of NFκB p65 mediates anchorage-independent survival of nonmalignant mammary epithelial cells. Therefore, epithelial tumors could survive in the absence of exogenous basement membrane through autocrine LM-5–α6β4 integrin–RAC–NFκB signaling

    Correlation Induced Insulator to Metal Transitions

    We study a spinless two-band model at half-filling in the limit of infinite dimensions. The ground state of this model in the non-interacting limit is a band-insulator. We identify transitions to a metal and to a charge-Mott insulator, using a combination of analytical, Quantum Monte Carlo, and zero temperature recursion methods. The metallic phase is a non-Fermi liquid state with algebraic local correlation functions with universal exponents over a range of parameters.Comment: 12 pages, REVTE

    k-dependent spectrum and optical conductivity near metal-insulator transition in multi-orbital Hubbard bands

    We apply the dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) in the iterative perturbation theory(IPT) to doubly degenerate eg bands and triply degenerate tg bands on a simple cubic lattice and calculate the spectrum and optical conductivity in arbitrary electron occupation. The spectrum simultaneously shows the effects of multiplet structure and DMFT together with the electron ionization and affinity levels of different electron occupations, coherent peaks at the Fermi energy in the metallic phase and a gap at an integer filling of electrons for sufficiently large Coulomb U. We also calculate the critical value of the Coulomb U for degenerate orbitals.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
