The portuguese under the nobility (the inquisition against the vassals of the Duke of Pastrana accused of judaism in the 17th Century)

Este trabajo es el resultado de un detallado estudio acerca del modo como la justicia e institución inquisitorial consiguieron penetrar en los espacios propios de la jurisdicción señorial de Monarquía Hispánica durante el siglo XVII. Para realizar este análisis se ha tomado como objeto de estudio el ducado y la villa de Pastrana, situados en la Alcarria. Los protagonistas de esta compleja problemática estudiada fueron los grupos de portugueses que se asentaron en el territorio de este señorío y en su villa principal a lo largo de los siglos XVI y XVII, los cuales participaron en su vida social, económica y política de manera muy intensa. Su papel en la dinamización y organización interna de este espacio señorial fue notable. La acusación de judaísmo contra algunos de estos portugueses y el procesamiento inquisitorial al que fueron sometidos nos permite ver algunos aspectos fundamentales de esta interesante cuestión.This project is the result of a detailed study about how the justice system and the inquisitorial institution managed to penetrate the spaces belonging to the jurisdiction of the Spanish Monarchy during the seventeenth century. The duchy and the manor house of Pastrana, situated in the Alcarria district, are the subject matter of this analysis. The protagonists of the complex problem studied were the Portuguese groups who settled on the territory and the manor house of this estate during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. These groups participated fully in the social, economic and political life of the estate. Their role in revitalizing and internally organizing the estate was remarkable. The accusation of Judaism against some of these Portuguese people and the inquisitorial process to which they were subjected provide a perspective on some of the fundamental aspects of this interesting topic

How Patients Die in Internal Medicine Wards: a Retrospective Study

Os doentes com doença crónica avançada são uma presença diária nas enfermarias de Medicina Interna, não existindo um protocolo de intervenção universal e uniforme. Este estudo pretende ser uma primeira abordagem para avaliar a forma como tratamos e cuidamos destes doentes, quer de etiologia neoplásica, quer de outras doenças crónicas, igualmente consumptivas, como demência, insuficiência cardíaca, VIH/SIDA, doença pulmonar crónica obstrutiva (DPCO). Foram recolhidas informações retrospectivas dos processos clínicos acerca das atitudes e tratamentos prestados a 285 doentes falecidos em 16 meses num hospital de agudos em Lisboa. A caracterização epidemiológica da população foi a esperada, com predomínio de população idosa, dependente, com prevalência de doenças cardíacas e acidentes vasculares cerebrais (AVC), como diagnósticos principais, seguidas de demência e doenças respiratórias. Do total de falecimentos, 73% foram esperados, mas destes apenas 44% dos doentes estavam integrados em cuidados paliativos. A dor foi avaliada principalmente em doentes de foro neoplásico, sendo a analgesia administrada em 77% dos casos. A decisão de receberem cuidados paliativos foi discutida com a família em 26% dos doentes, mas não foi em nenhum caso discutido com o próprio doente. Consideramos que é necessário formação e informação para uma abordagem mais sistematizada do doente com doença crónica avançada e das suas necessidades. A definição explícita das expectativas de vida e uma abordagem sistemática da pesquisa de dor em todos estes, é necessária para garantir melhor qualidade dos cuidados prestados em fim de vida

Hipoparatiroidismo primario idiopático felino. Caso clínico

Se describe un caso clínico de hipoparatiroidismo primario idiopático, en un gato macho de 2 años y medio de edad, que se presentó en nuestro hospital con un cuadro de anorexia, temblores, cambio de comportamiento, agresividad y alteraciones neurológicas. La analítica sanguínea reveló una hipocalcemia importante. Una vez descartados el resto de diagnósticos diferenciales de hipocalcemia, la presencia de unos niveles de PTH anormalmente bajos en presencia de hipocalcemia severa, permitió emitir diagnóstico de hipoparatiroidismo primario idiopático. El paciente respondió adecuadamente al tratamiento hospitalario de urgencia y actualmente recibe medicación oral, uno de cada 4 días, y no presenta ninguna sintomatología relaiconada ni efectos secundarios.

VAMP3 is associated with endothelial Weibel-Palade bodies and participates in their Ca2+-dependent exocytosis.

AbstractWeibel–Palade bodies (WPBs) are secretory organelles of endothelial cells that store the thrombogenic glycoprotein von Willebrand factor (vWF). Endothelial activation, e.g. by histamine and thrombin, triggers the Ca2+-dependent exocytosis of WPB that releases vWF into the vasculature and thereby initiates platelet capture and thrombus formation. Towards understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying this regulated WPB exocytosis, we here identify components of the soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor (SNARE) machinery associated with WPB. We show that vesicle-associated membrane protein (VAMP) 3 and VAMP8 are present on WPB and that VAMP3, but not VAMP8 forms a stable complex with syntaxin 4 and SNAP23, two plasma membrane-associated SNAREs in endothelial cells. By introducing mutant SNARE proteins into permeabilized endothelial cells we also show that soluble VAMP3 but not VAMP8 mutants comprising the cytoplasmic domain interfere with efficient vWF secretion. This indicates that endothelial cells specifically select VAMP 3 over VAMP8 to cooperate with syntaxin 4 and SNAP23 in the Ca2+-triggered fusion of WPB with the plasma membrane. The redshift and broad band spectral energy distribution of NRAO 150

Context. NRAO 150 is one of the brightest radio and mm AGN sources on the northern sky. It has been revealed as an interesting source where to study extreme relativistic jet phenomena. However, its cosmological distance has not been reported so far, because of its optical faintness produced by strong Galactic extinction. Aims. Aiming at measuring the redshift of NRAO 150, and hence to start making possible quantitative studies from the source. Methods. We have conducted spectroscopic and photometric observations of the source in the near-IR, as well as in the optical. Results. All such observations have been successful in detecting the source. The near-IR spectroscopic observations reveal strong H$\alpha$ and H$\beta$ emission lines from which the cosmological redshift of NRAO 150 ($z=1.517\pm0.002$) has been determined for the first time. We classify the source as a flat-spectrum radio-loud quasar, for which we estimate a large super-massive black-hole mass $\sim5\times 10^{9} \mathrm{M_\odot}$. After extinction correction, the new near-IR and optical data have revealed a high-luminosity continuum-emission excess in the optical (peaking at $\sim2000$\,\AA, rest frame) that we attribute to thermal emission from the accretion disk for which we estimate a high accretion rate, $\sim30$\,% of the Eddington limit. Conclusions. Comparison of these source properties, and its broad-band spectral-energy distribution, with those of Fermi blazars allow us to predict that NRAO 150 is among the most powerful blazars, and hence a high luminosity -although not detected yet- $\gamma$-ray emitter.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure

Thermodynamics and mesoscopic organisation in Langmuir monolayers of an azobenzene derivative

We have carried out the analysis of liquid crystalline Langmuir monolayers at the air-water interface composed of the amphiphilic azobenzene derivative 8Az5COOH. By varying the temperature and the isomeric (trans-cis) composition, the monolayer behaviour has been studied in comparison with a shorter homologue, 8Az3COOH, by measuring the surface pressure-area isotherms along with Brewster angle microscopy (BAM). Our data with the pure trans isomer enable a posterior thermodynamic analysis, which was not feasible with the shorter homologue. For the mixed trans-cis monolayers, BAM observations reveal a phase segregation with trans enriched domains surrounded by a cis enriched matrix. Line tension between the two phases is lower than in the shorter homologue. The organisation of the rodlike molecules inside the trans domains results in highly symmetric textures that make the quantitative analysis of the BAM images possible, and a better understanding of the microscopic structure of the monolayer can be achieved

Analysis of the readiness to buy cultural tourism online by means of latent variable models

The offer of tourism products online has increased considerably in recent years. The degree of acceptance of this new form of purchasing tourism products and services on the demand side is influenced by variables of different nature. While today's tourists routinely use online consultation for any particular destination, online booking is not as common as might have been expected, and actually purchasing online is decidedly uncommon. The aim of this study was to determine which aspects most affect the readiness to buy tourism products online. To this end, the data from a survey were used as input to different latent models with errors of measurement to segment demand in terms of attitude towards online purchases of tourism products and services

El papel del trabajo social en el Sueño de Barrio

Una de las preocupaciones importantes en el mundo del trabajo social es la calidad de las comunicaciones dentro de la Red de Servicios Sociales y la fluidez y operatividad de las relaciones de ésta con el entorno y personas para las que trabaja. De ello depende la calidad vida de gran parte de la ciudadanía de los pueblos y los barrios de nuestras ciudades. A través de la experiencia que se está llevando a cabo en dos barrios de Albacete veremos cómo la metodología de Comunidades de Aprendizaje es también un valioso instrumento para transformar la Red, reelaborándola a partir del sueño conjunto entre profesionales del trabajo social, entidades, la comunidad de aprendizaje y las personas participantes-usuarias de la Red. El acento, en este artículo, se sitúa en la posición que las personas profesionales del trabajo social ocupan en este"Sueño de barrio" y la importancia del fomento de los actos comunicativos dialógicos en su práctica profesional como garantía de mejora y transformación social
