Exotic superfluid states of lattice fermions in elongated traps
We present real-space dynamical mean-field theory calculations for
attractively interacting fermions in three-dimensional lattices with elongated
traps. The critical polarization is found to be 0.8, regardless of the trap
elongation. Below the critical polarization, we find unconventional superfluid
structures where the polarized superfluid and
Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov-type states emerge across the entire core
region
Local behavior of p-harmonic Green's functions in metric spaces
We describe the behavior of p-harmonic Green's functions near a singularity
in metric measure spaces equipped with a doubling measure and supporting a
Poincar\'e inequality
Coexistence of pairing gaps in three-component Fermi gases
We study a three-component superfluid Fermi gas in a spherically symmetric
harmonic trap using the Bogoliubov-deGennes method. We predict a coexistence
phase in which two pairing field order parameters are simultaneously nonzero,
in stark contrast to studies performed for trapped gases using local density
approximation. We also discuss the role of atom number conservation in the
context of a homogeneous system.Comment: Text revised, added two figures and three reference
Effects of technology-based interventions on dietary intake or anthropometrics among adolescents and adults in South Asia-A systematic review of intervention studies
Introduction: Mobile technology has been increasingly used as part of dietary interventions, but the effects of such interventions have not been systematically evaluated in the South Asian context. The systematic review aimed to determine the effects of technology-based interventions on dietary intake or anthropometrics among adolescents and adults in South Asia. Methods: Five electronic databases were searched (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Global Health Library and Health Technology Assessment). Studies published in English between 1st January 2011 and 31st December 2021were included. Interventions that evaluated the effects of dietary interventions using technology on dietary outcomes and anthropometrics in adolescents or adults in the age group of 13-44 years (or a broader age group) from South Asia were eligible for inclusion. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk-of-bias 2 tool and ROBINS-I tool. A narrative synthesis was conducted. Results: Twenty-one studies met the inclusion criteria (20,667 participants). Eleven of the 17 randomised controlled trials (RCTs) had a high overall risk of bias. The four non-randomised intervention studies had a serious or critical overall risk of bias. When including studies with low risk or some concern for bias, the interventions had a beneficial effect on at least one dietary outcome in four of the six RCTs that measured changes in diet, and no effect on the anthropometric outcomes in the six RCTs that measured changes in anthropometric outcomes.Discussion: Technology-based dietary interventions have had some positive effects on dietary intake, but no effects on anthropometry in South Asia. More evidence is needed as the overall risk of bias was high in a majority of the studies.Peer reviewe
Effect of a thin AlO_x layer on transition-edge sensor properties
We have studied the physics of transition-edge sensor (TES) devices with an
insulating AlOx layer on top of the device to allow implementation of more
complex detector geometries. By comparing devices with and without the
insulating film, we have observed significant additional noise apparently
caused by the insulator layer. In addition, AlOx was found to be a relatively
good thermal conductor. This adds an unforeseen internal thermal feature to the
system.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, Low Temperature Detectors 14 conferenc
Cooper-pair resonances and subgap Coulomb blockade in a superconducting single-electron transistor
We have fabricated and measured superconducting single-electron transistors
with Al leads and Nb islands. At bias voltages below the gap of Nb we observe
clear signatures of resonant tunneling of Cooper pairs, and of Coulomb blockade
of the subgap currents due to linewidth broadening of the energy levels in the
superconducting density of states of Nb. The experimental results are in good
agreement with numerical simulations.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Maan lujuuden määrittäminen rasialeikkauskokeen ja kairausvastuksen perusteella
Tiivistelmä. Kandidaatintyön tavoitteena on vertailla kahdella eri menetelmällä määritettyjä maaperän lujuusparametrejä. Samassa tutkimuskohteessa on tehty vuonna 2021 kairaukset, joiden tuloksia käytetään työssä.
Rasialeikkauskoe on suora leikkauskoe, jossa maanäytettä kuormitetaan normaalijännityksellä. Kokeella voidaan määrittää Mohr-Coulomb murtokriteerin mukaiset lujuusparametrit. Murtokriteerin mukaan maan lujuus muodostuu sisäisestä kitkasta ja koheesiosta. Tarkoituksena on toistaa koe eri normaalijännityksen tasoilla, jotta voidaan piirtää murtosuora. Suoran avulla määritetään lujuusparametrit. Työssä pohjatutkimuksina käytetään kairausmenetelmiä.
Tässä tutkimuskohteessa eri menetelmillä saadut tulokset eroavat osittain toisistaan. Eroavaisuuteen on useita syitä ja epävarmuustekijöitä, joita käsitellään työssä. Tutkimus on hyvin suppea, joten menetelmien välille ei voida tehdä yleisesti pätevää johtopäätöstä.Determination of soil strength parameters based on shear box test and sounding resistance. Abstract. The aim of the bachelor’s thesis was to compare soil strength parameters determined by two different methods. The used methods are soundings and shear box test. The work examines the properties of silt. The work consists of a literature review and an experimental part. The literature review examines soil formation, soil strength properties, and their determination through soil investigations and laboratory tests. In the experimental part, a rubber balloon density test is performed at the investigation site. In addition, soil samples are taken for the shear box test performed in the University of Oulu geotechnical laboratory.
The shear box test is a direct shear test. The test can determinate the strength parameters according to the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion. According to the failure criterion, the strength parameters of soil consist of internal friction and cohesion. The purpose is to repeat the experiment at different normal stress levels that failure line could be drawn. The failure line is used to determine the strength parameters.
In this study, the results obtained with different methods partially differ from each other. There are several reasons and uncertainty factors for the difference, which are discussed in the work. The study is very limited so generally valid conclusion can not be drawn between the methods
Co-development of the CMAP Book: a tool to enhance children's participation in pediatric rehabilitation
Purpose The purpose of the co-development project was to create a tool that enhances children's active participation and agency in rehabilitation and in everyday life. Materials and methods Action research was the methodological approach. Participants in the different phases of the process (2015-2017) were children with disabilities, parents and rehabilitation professionals. The co-development process included: (1) designing the tool's first version, (2) piloting the tool, (3) evaluating the tool by collecting feedback and reflection, (4) generating the tool's final version. Results Through the co-development process, an accommodating and digital tool called the CMAP Book-a description of the child's meaningful activities and participation-was developed. The CMAP Book is used with an electronic app enabling the identification and description of what is meaningful in daily life from the child's perspective with videos, photos, pictures, recording and writing. The tool enables the child, family and professionals to prepare and build collaboration in rehabilitation with flexibility according to child and family needs. Conclusions Use of the CMAP Book promotes the active involvement of the child and parents in designing the rehabilitation process in daily life in partnership with professionals. The stakeholder involvement in the co-development facilitated meaningful results and a concrete tool for rehabilitation.Peer reviewe
Towards enhanced optical sensor performance:SEIRA and SERS with plasmonic nanostars
We report the preparation and characterization of plasmonic chip-based systems comprising self-assembled gold nanostars at silicon substrates that enable concomitantly enhanced Raman (surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy; SERS) and mid-infrared (surface enhanced infrared reflection or absorption spectroscopy; SEIRA) spectral signatures. The high-aspect-ratio structure of gold nanostars provides an increased number of hot spots at their surface, which results in an electric field enhancement around the nanomaterial. Gold nanostars were immobilized at a silicon substrate via a thin gold layer, and α-ω-dimercapto polyethylene glycol (SH-PEG-SH) linkers. The Raman and IR spectra of crystal violet (CV) revealed a noticeable enhancement of the analyte vibrational signal intensity in SERS and SEIRA studies resulting from the presence of the nanostars. Enhancement factors of 2.5 × 10 3 and 2.3 × 10 3 were calculated in SERS considering the CV bands at 1374.9 cm -1 and 1181 cm -1 , respectively; for SEIRA, an enhancement factor of 5.36 was achieved considering the CV band at 1585 cm -1
