Dimension reduction is an important technique in surrogate modeling and machine learning. In this thesis, we present three existing dimension reduction methods in detail and then we propose a novel supervised dimension reduction method, `Least Squares Regression Principal Component Analysis" (LSR-PCA), applicable to both classification and regression dimension reduction tasks. To show the efficacy of this method, we present different examples in visualization, classification and regression problems, comparing it to state-of-the-art dimension reduction methods. Furthermore, we present the kernel version of LSR-PCA for problems where the input are correlated non-linearly. The examples demonstrated that LSR-PCA can be a competitive dimension reduction method.

207 p.The main conclusions that can be extracted from an analysis of the current situation and future trends of the industry,in particular manufacturing plants, are the following: there is a growing need to provide customization of products, ahigh variation of production volumes and a downward trend in the availability of skilled operators due to the ageingof the population. Adapting to this new scenario is a challenge for companies, especially small and medium-sizedenterprises (SMEs) that are suffering first-hand how their specialization is turning against them. The objective of this work is to provide a tool that can serve as a basis to face these challenges in an effective way. Therefore the presented framework, thanks to its modular architecture, allows focusing on the different needs of eachparticular company and offers the possibility of scaling the system for future requirements. The presented platform isdivided into three layers, namely: interface with robot systems, the execution engine and the application developmentlayer.Taking advantage of the provided ecosystem by this framework, different modules have been developed in order toface the mentioned challenges of the industry. On the one hand, to address the need of product customization, theintegration of tools that increase the versatility of the cell are proposed. An example of such tools is skill basedprogramming. By applying this technique a process can be intuitively adapted to the variations or customizations thateach product requires. The use of skills favours the reuse and generalization of developed robot programs.Regarding the variation of the production volumes, a system which permits a greater mobility and a faster reconfigurationis necessary. If in a certain situation a line has a production peak, mechanisms for balancing the loadwith a reasonable cost are required. In this respect, the architecture allows an easy integration of different roboticsystems, actuators, sensors, etc. In addition, thanks to the developed calibration and set-up techniques, the system canbe adapted to new workspaces at an effective time/cost.With respect to the third mentioned topic, an agent-based monitoring system is proposed. This module opens up amultitude of possibilities for the integration of auxiliary modules of protection and security for collaboration andinteraction between people and robots, something that will be necessary in the not so distant future. For demonstrating the advantages and adaptability improvement of the developed framework, a series of real usecases have been presented. In each of them different problematic has been resolved using developed skills, demonstrating how are adapted easily to the different casuistic

Relative income of teachers is analyzed in Argentina. A Mincerian income equation is estimated for a cross section sample of individuals from 1998 Permanent Household Survey (EPH) over twenty-nine metropolitan areas and a Oaxaca decomposition procedure is followed to ascertain whether characteristics or returns explain better the log mean difference in income of teachers and other relevant groups used for comparison. Hourly income of teachers are found to be higher than the average for the economy, slightly lower than that of workers with post-secondary studies, but lower definite respective of professionals. Characteristics is a critical source of teacher-non-teacher income differential. Its relative weight changes according to the group of comparison chosen. Substracting the effect of characteristics, income difference is reduced by 40 % in the total population, 16% in the post-secondary population but has the reverse effect of penalizing teachers vs professionals.Mincer equation, relative income of teachers, Oaxaca decomposition

Social Consciousness and Perceived Risk as Drivers of Crowdfunding as a Socially Responsible Investment in Tourism

This article is a first step in examining reward-based crowdfunding in tourism as a socially responsible nvestment where individuals collaborate with projects that contribute to the development of their communities in economic, environmental, and/or sociocultural terms. Thus, the present study develops a model where social consciousness and perceived risk are postulated to influence individuals' attitudes toward and intentions to participate in a project of crowdfunding. Based on a simulated crowdfunding project of "enotourism" that contributes to the development of a region in Spain, results reflect that the main drivers of individuals' overall attitude toward crowdfunding are social consciousness and platform risk. Additionally, individuals' intentions to fund the tourism project are influenced by their specific attitude toward the project and their overall attitude toward crowdfunding

ABSTRACT: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to advance in research on consumer Psychology of hospitality, since it investigates how online search behavior of users (particularly, information search and choice) is influenced by the opinions of other people in a new context characterized by the generalized use of Web 2.0 applications. Design/methodology/approach – Empirical research was carried out in the hotel sector in Iberian Peninsula, where two Web 2.0 applications are especially relevant for users: the review Web sites and the hotel interactive Web sites. A qualitative method (in-depth interviews with hotel managers) and a quantitative technique (personal surveys to a sample of 830 users) were used to conduct this research. Findings – The results indicates that the perceived influence on behavior of the user-generated content on these Web 2.0 applications is determined, in both cases, by the value of the information, the credibility of the sources and the degree of similarity between the user and the creators of content. Practical implications – Firms should have an active presence in the review Web sites and the hotel interactive Web sites, and use these platforms for market research and communication. Firms should engage users to post content, support their credibility and facilitate the evaluation of the content generators’ similarity. Originality/value – This paper is the first study in the hospitality literature that develops and empirically tests an integrative model explaining the perceived influence on behavior of user-generated content on Web 2.0 applications
