Interview with Fabián SeveroEl encuentro con el escritor uruguayo Fabián Severo se dio de manera virtual, teniendo como punto de partida la lectura de su última novela Sepulturadurante el curso “Literaturas latinoamericanas transculturales” impartido por la doctora Karen Sabán en la Universidad de Heidelberg, Alemania. La novela presenta un diálogo entre un anciano y una mujer joven que regresa al pueblo de sus abuelos para buscar los rastros de su familia, y en esta conversación que ambos sostienen se mezclan las memorias, las voces y los sonidos de un pueblo violentamente silenciado y dividido en dos. A partir de esto, en la entrevista se abordó el tema de la lengua y la identidad en el espacio fronterizo, así como la importancia de la voz y la memoria. También se habló acerca de la traducción de la novela, que fue escrita en portuñol, y los problemas en la enseñanza de la literatura desde la experiencia del escritor.

Dispositivo para simulación de patologías restrictivas en sujetos sanos ventilados mecánicamente de manera no invasiva

RESUMEN: La evaluación de la mecánica ventilatoria en pacientes ventilados mecánicamente permite ajustar su tratamiento en las unidades de cuidados intensivos en términos del ajuste del modo ventilatorio y sus parámetros asociados. Sin embargo, solo con maniobras obstructivas es posible estimar parámetros como la compliancia y la resistencia respiratorias en ventilación espontánea. Una de las limitaciones más importantes en el desarrollo de técnicas de estimación no obstructivas de la mecánica ventilatoria es que se trata de un sistema no estacionario y la variación de sus parámetros está sujeta a la variabilidad del patrón ventilatorio. Este artículo tiene como objetivo presentar y evaluar un dispositivo que permita modificar artificialmente la distensibilidad torácica de un sujeto sano, lo cual permitirá registrar en un futuro una base de datos útil para el desarrollo de técnicas de estimación de la mecánica ventilatoria. El dispositivo se conformó por una coraza, una bomba y un controlador que permite variar la presión al interior de la coraza, la cual fue ubicada en el pecho y abdomen de los voluntarios para cambiar la distensibilidad de manera controlada. 5 voluntarios participaron en la avaluación del dispositivo, consiguiendo cambios porcentuales de 34,5 ± 9,4% respecto a su valor en reposo para una presión de 10 cmH2O y cambios de 46,8 ± 5,7% para la máxima presión de 20 cmH2O. Se logró diseñar un dispositivo que permitiera modificar artificialmente la distensibilidad torácica de manera comparable para cualquier sujeto sano. Palabras claves: Mecánica ventilatoria, compliancia torácica, enfermedades restrictivas, sistemas de control.ABSTRACT: The respiratory mechanics assessment in patients with mechanical ventilation allows to adjust the treatment in intensive care units related to the ventilatory mode and parameters of mechanical ventilator settings. However, to estimate the compliance and respiratory resistance in spontaneous ventilation is only possible with obstructive maneuvers or invasive techniques. One of the most important limitations to develop new techniques for respiratory mechanics estimation is the non-stationary characteristic of the system and the variability of parameters according to the variability of the breathing pattern. The aim of this article is to present and evaluate a device that allows artificially modify the thoracic compliance of a healthy subject, which will make possible to register in the future a useful database for the development of techniques for estimating ventilatory mechanics. The device was formed by a cuirass, a pump and a controller that allows to vary the pressure inside the cuirass, which was placed in the chest and abdomen of the volunteers to change compliance in a controlled manner. 5 volunteers participated in the performance test of the device, achieving percentage changes of 34.5 ± 9.4% respecting their resting value for a pressure of 10 cmH2O and changes of 46.8 ± 5.7% for the maximum pressure of 20 cmH2O. It was possible to design a device that allowed to artificially modify thoracic compliance in a comparable way for any healthy subject. Módulo para el control sin contacto de imágenes diagnósticas en la sala de cirugía con el sistema Leap Motion y el Software 3D Slicer

RESUMEN: Durante los procedimientos quirúrgicos es importante que el personal (cirujanos, residentes o asistentes) interactúe con el paciente, evitando cualquier contacto físico con equipo y materiales que pudieron no ser esterilizados apropiadamente. Esto se hace con el fin de evitar al paciente infecciones y complicaciones posteriores a la cirugía. Con el aumento de la disponibilidad de imágenes diagnósticas esta herramienta se ha hecho cada vez más indispensable en los quirófanos, pero no siempre es posible mantener el control de asepsia de los equipos informáticos en los cuales se ejecutan los programas de visualización, factor que dificulta el acceso al personal asistencial a la información contenida en las imágenes. En este trabajo se presenta el desarrollo de un sistema que permite manipular un programa de visualización de imágenes diagnósticas mediante gestos evitando que el cirujano tenga contacto directo con la computadora. El sistema, que requiere una computadora con el software 3D-Slicer y el dispositivo Leap Motion, permite mediante gestos realizados con las manos acceder a operaciones básicas como el movimiento entre cortes de un volumen, cambio del tamaño de la imagen y cambio del plano anatómico de visualización, operaciones que para el cirujano son esenciales para la ubicación espacial y la toma de decisiones.ABSTRACT: During surgical procedures, it is important that the personnel (surgeon, residents, or assistants) interact with the patient avoiding any physical contact with equipment and materials that might have not been appropriately sterilized. This is done in order to prevent patient’s infections and complications after surgery. With the increased availability of diagnostic images, this technology has become indispensable in operating rooms but to maintain asepsis control of computer equipment on which the visualization programs are executed is not always possible, hindering access to personnel to information contained in the images. This paper describes the development of a system that allows the personnel to manipulate a medical imaging display program using gestures, avoiding the surgeon or the nurse to have a direct contact with the computer. The system, which requires a computer with 3D-Slicer software and Leap Motion (LM) device, allows through gestures made with the hands, to access the basic operations such as the movement between sections of a volume, to change the image size and the anatomical plane visualization; operations that are essential to the surgeon for the spatial location and decision making

Evaluación de la calidad de suelos en agroecosistemas de Colombia a través de la selección de un conjunto mínimo de datos

This study aimed to evaluate the soil quality through quality indexes consisting of three minimum data sets (3, 5 and 6 indicators) in five agroecosystems with organic coffee (Coffea arabica), guatila or chayote (Sechium edule), polyculture (Anthurium andraeanum, Manihot esculenta, Musa balbisiana o Zea mays), conventional pasture (Pennisetum clandestinum y Cynodon dactylon) and Guadua (Guadua angustifolia), in the municipality of Cachipay (Cundinamarca). During the sampling, two representative areas were randomly selected for each agroecosystem and two quadrants (2.5 x 2.5 m) were delimited, from which two composite samples of soil were taken (20 subsamples, depth of 0-15 cm). It was evidenced that independent of the minimum set of data used, the lowest soil quality indexes were presented by the conventional pasture and the guatila culture. The highest values of the quality index corresponded to polyculture, forest and organic coffee cultivation. In conclusion, the use of variables such as bulk density, stability index, pH, dehydrogenase activity, heterotrophic density and solubilized phosphate bacteria are important indicators to measure the soil quality in agroecosystems.El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar la calidad de suelos mediante índices de calidad constituidos por tres conjuntos mínimos de datos (tres, cinco y seis indicadores), en cinco agroecosistemas con cultivo de café (Coffea arabica) orgánico, guatila o chayote (Sechium edule), policultivo (Anthurium andraeanum, Manihot esculenta, Musa balbisiana o Zea mays), pastizal convencional (Pennisetum clandestinum y Cynodon dactylon) y Guaduales (Guadua angustifolia), en el municipio de Cachipay (Cundinamarca). Durante el muestreo se seleccionaron aleatoriamente dos áreas representativas para cada agroecosistema y se delimitaron dos cuadrantes (2.5 × 2.5 m) de los que se tomaron dos muestras compuestas de suelo (20 submuestras; profundidad de 0-15 cm). Se evidenció que independiente del conjunto mínimo de datos empleado, los menores índices de calidad de suelos lo presentaron el pastizal convencional y el cultivo de guatila. Los valores mayores del índice de calidad correspondieron al policultivo, guaduales y cultivo de café. Se concluye que el uso de variables como la densidad aparente, el índice de estabilidad, el pH, la actividad deshidrogenasa, el recuento de heterótrofos y las bacterias solubilizadoras de fosfato son indicadores relevantes que permiten evaluar adecuadamente la calidad edáfica en agroecosistemas

Ventilatory threshold concordance between ergoespirometry and heart rate variability in female professional cyclists

The ventilatory threshold (VT) is the point at which ventilation intensifies disproportionately concerning to the oxygen uptake, this parameter is essential within the training methodology to optimize performance; the purpose of this work is to measure the degree of agreement between the determination of the ventilatory threshold determined by for oxygen uptake and four methods by Heart Rate Variability (HRV). Methodology: Twelve professional female cyclists between 18 and 28 years of age were evaluated through a maximal incremental test on a cycle ergometer; gas exchange was measure with a portable telemetric device (Cosmed K4b2®) and simultaneously the HRV was registered by R-R recording trough a Polar RS800CX® (Polar, Finland) heart rate monitor. Statistics: The degree of precision and accuracy established between the variables mentioned and normality test Shapiro-Wilk. Results: rho = 1.00 with p-value < .05, and Lin correlation and concordance coefficients of .99 with r = 0.98 for ventilatory threshold 2 (VT2), constituting a level of precision and accuracy almost perfect; by contrast, ventilatory threshold 1 (VT1) did not show significant precision and accuracy. This study suggests that VT2 can be identified from The time series. RR using the analysis of frequency and temporal domains likewise allows. Congreso Internacional de Responsabilidad Social: apuestas para el desarrollo regional [Edición 1 / Nov. 6 - 7: 2019 Bogotá D.C.]El Congreso Internacional de Responsabilidad Social “Apuestas para el Desarrollo Regional”, se llevó a cabo los días 6 y 7 de noviembre de 2019 en la ciudad de Bogotá D.C. como un evento académico e investigativo liderado por la Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios -UNIMINUTO – Rectoría Cundinamarca cuya pretensión fue el fomento de nuevos paradigmas, la divulgación de conocimiento renovado en torno a la Responsabilidad Social; finalidad adoptada institucionalmente como postura ética y política que impacta la docencia, la investigación y la proyección social, y cuyo propósito central es la promoción de una “sensibilización consciente y crítica ante las situaciones problemáticas, tanto de las comunidades como del país, al igual que la adquisición de unas competencias orientadas a la promoción y al compromiso con el desarrollo humano y social integral”. (UNIMINUTO, 2014). Dicha postura, de conciencia crítica y sensibilización social, sumada a la experiencia adquirida mediante el trabajo articulado con otras instituciones de índole académico y de forma directa con las comunidades, permitió establecer como objetivo central del evento la reflexión de los diferentes grupos de interés, la gestión de sus impactos como elementos puntuales que contribuyeron en la audiencia a la toma de conciencia frente al papel que se debe asumir a favor de la responsabilidad social como aporte seguro al desarrollo regional y a su vez al fortalecimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible
