    La evolución de las organizaciones ha permitido reconocer la importancia del capital humano y las condiciones que éste requiere para generar eficiencia y eficacia al interior de ellas. En este contexto, el clima organizacional tiene ciertas implicancias teóricas y prácticas sobre el desempeño. El objetivo del presente estudio es determinar la relación entre el clima organizacional y el desempeño laboral individual del personal del programa PROCIENCIA. La metodología de investigación empleada fue de tipo aplicada, de enfoque cuantitativo y de alcance descriptivo-correlacional, aplicado a una muestra censal conformada por 58 trabajadores del programa PROCIENCIA en Lima; mientras que para el análisis estadístico se utilizó el alfa de cronbach para determinar su fiabilidad y el coeficiente de correlación de Pearson para medir la asociación entre las dos variables. De los resultados estadísticos, se concluye que el clima organizacional se relaciona positivamente con el desempeño laboral individual. Esto a su vez, permitió contrastar las diferentes teorías desarrolladas respecto a ambas variables en el ámbito organizacional.Campus Lima Centr

    Comparative ergonomic workflow and user experience analysis of MRI versus fluoroscopy-guided vascular interventions:an iliac angioplasty exemplar case study

    Purpose A methodological framework is introduced to assess and compare a conventional fluoroscopy protocol for peripheral angioplasty with a new magnetic resonant imaging (MRI)-guided protocol. Different scenarios were considered during interventions on a perfused arterial phantom with regard to time-based and cognitive task analysis, user experience and ergonomics. Methods Three clinicians with different expertise performed a total of 43 simulated common iliac angioplasties (9 fluoroscopic, 34 MRI-guided) in two blocks of sessions. Six different configurations for MRI guidance were tested in the first block. Four of them were evaluated in the second block and compared to the fluoroscopy protocol. Relevant stages’ durations were collected, and interventions were audio-visually recorded from different perspectives. A cued retrospective protocol analysis (CRPA) was undertaken, including personal interviews. In addition, ergonomic constraints in the MRI suite were evaluated. Results Significant differences were found when comparing the performance between MRI configurations versus fluoroscopy. Two configurations [with times of 8.56 (0.64) and 9.48 (1.13) min] led to reduce procedure time for MRI guidance, comparable to fluoroscopy [8.49 (0.75) min]. The CRPA pointed out the main influential factors for clinical procedure performance. The ergonomic analysis quantified musculoskeletal risks for interventional radiologists when utilising MRI. Several alternatives were suggested to prevent potential low-back injuries. Conclusions This work presents a step towards the implementation of efficient operational protocols for MRI-guided procedures based on an integral and multidisciplinary framework, applicable to the assessment of current vascular protocols. The use of first-user perspective raises the possibility of establishing new forms of clinical training and education

    Trash to Supply Gas (TtSG) Project Overview

    Technologies that reduce logistical needs are a key to long term space missions. Currently, trash and waste generated during a mission is carried during the entire roundtrip mission or stored inside a logistic module which is de-orbited into Earth's atmosphere for destruction. The goal of the Trash to Supply Gas (TtSG) project is to develop space technology alternatives for converting trash and other waste materials from human spaceflight into high-value products that might include propellants or power system fuels in addition to life support oxygen and water. In addition to producing a useful product from waste, TtSG will decrease the volume needed to store waste on long term space missions.     Two-year clinical evaluation of resinous restorative systems in non-carious cervical lesions

    This controlled clinical trial evaluated the 2-year clinical performance of a one-bottle etch-and-rinse adhesive and resin composite system (Excite/Tetric Ceram) compared to a resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) (Vitremer/3M) in non-carious cervical lesions. Seventy cervical restorations (35 resin composite - RC- restorations and 35 RMGIC restorations) were placed by a single operator in 30 patients under rubber dam isolation without mechanical preparation. All restorations were evaluated blindly by 2 independent examiners using the modified USPHS criteria at baseline, and after 6, 12 and 24 months. Data were analyzed statistically by Fisher's exact and McNemar tests. After 2 years, 59 out of 70 restorations were evaluated. As much as 78.8% retention rate was recorded for RC restorations, while 100% retention was obtained for RMGIC restorations. Fisher's exact test showed significant differences (p=0.011) for retention. However, there were no significant differences for marginal integrity, marginal discoloration, anatomic form and secondary caries between the RC and RMGIC restorations. The McNemar test detected significant differences for Excite/TC between baseline and the 2-year recall for retention (p=0.02), marginal integrity (p=0.002) and anatomic form (p=0.04). Therefore, the one-bottle etch-and-rinse bonding system/resin composite showed an inferior clinical performance compared to the RMGIC.Esse estudo avaliou o desempenho clínico de restaurações de lesões cervicais não-cariosas por um período de 2 anos empregando um sistema adesivo de condicionamento total (Excite/Tetric Ceram) e um cimento de ionômero de vidro modificado por resina (Vitremer). Setenta restaurações (35 por material) foram realizadas por um único operador. Todas as lesões cervicais não-cariosas foram restauradas sem a execução de preparo cavitário e sob isolamento absoluto. As restaurações foram avaliadas por 2 examinadores independentes usando os critérios USPHS modificados nos períodos inicial, 6, 12 e 24 meses. A análise estatística foi realizada pelos testes de Fisher e McNemar. Cinquenta e nove restaurações foram avaliadas após 2 anos, obtendo-se um índice de retenção de 78,8% para resina composta e 100% para o cimento de ionômero de vidro modificado por resina. O teste exato de Fischer detectou diferença significante (p=0,011) para retenção entre os dois materiais. Contudo, não houve diferença significante para integridade marginal, descoloração marginal, forma anatômica e cárie secundária. O teste de McNemar detectou diferença estatística para o sistema Excite/Tetric Ceram entre o período inicial e 2 anos para os critérios de retenção (p=0,02), integridade marginal (p=0,002) e forma anatômica (p=0,04). Portanto, o sistema adesivo de condicionamento total apresentou um desempenho clínico inferior comparado ao cimento de ionômero de vidro modificado por resina

    Ecodemocracy in practice: exploration of debates on limits and possibilities of addressing environmental challenges within democratic systems

    This article examines the practical implications of ecological democracy or ecodemocracy, inquiring how capable democratic societies are of addressing environmental challenges. It asks: What is needed to secure democratic legitimacy for policy measures to benefit nonhuman species? What would ecodemocracy look like in practice? Different types of existing and possible types of representation are discussed, including the expansion of the precautionary principle, the Council of All Beings or Parliament of Things, and representation through the Parties for Animals. A possible approach in the form of a mandate for proxy eco-representation similar to civil rights through continuous affirmative action is investigated.  Limitations and possibilities of each approach for nature representation are weighed.     Overall asthma control achieved with budesonide/formoterol maintenance and reliever therapy for patients on different treatment steps

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Adjusting medication for uncontrolled asthma involves selecting one of several options from the same or a higher treatment step outlined in asthma guidelines. We examined the relative benefit of introducing budesonide/formoterol (BUD/FORM) maintenance and reliever therapy (Symbicort SMART<sup>® </sup>Turbuhaler<sup>®</sup>) in patients previously prescribed treatments from Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) Steps 2, 3 or 4.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>This is a <it>post hoc </it>analysis of the results of five large clinical trials (>12000 patients) comparing BUD/FORM maintenance and reliever therapy with other treatments categorised by treatment step at study entry. Both current clinical asthma control during the last week of treatment and exacerbations during the study were examined.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>At each GINA treatment step, the proportion of patients achieving target levels of current clinical control were similar or higher with BUD/FORM maintenance and reliever therapy compared with the same or a higher fixed maintenance dose of inhaled corticosteroid/long-acting β<sub>2</sub>-agonist (ICS/LABA) (plus short-acting β<sub>2</sub>-agonist [SABA] as reliever), and rates of exacerbations were lower at all treatment steps in BUD/FORM maintenance and reliever therapy versus same maintenance dose ICS/LABA (P < 0.01) and at treatment Step 4 versus higher maintenance dose ICS/LABA (P < 0.001). BUD/FORM maintenance and reliever therapy also achieved significantly higher rates of current clinical control and significantly lower exacerbation rates at most treatment steps compared with a higher maintenance dose ICS + SABA (Steps 2-4 for control and Steps 3 and 4 for exacerbations). With all treatments, the proportion of patients achieving current clinical control was lower with increasing treatment steps.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>BUD/FORM maintenance and reliever therapy may be a preferable option for patients on Steps 2 to 4 of asthma guidelines requiring a more effective treatment and, compared with other fixed dose alternatives, is most effective in the higher treatment steps.</p

    Phylogenetic and functional diversity of metagenomic libraries of phenol degrading sludge from petroleum refinery wastewater treatment system

    In petrochemical refinery wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), different concentrations of pollutant compounds are received daily in the influent stream, including significant amounts of phenolic compounds, creating propitious conditions for the development of particular microorganisms that can rapidly adapt to such environment. In the present work, the microbial sludge from a refinery WWTP was enriched for phenol, cloned into fosmid vectors and pyrosequenced. The fosmid libraries yielded 13,200 clones and a comprehensive bioinformatic analysis of the sequence data set revealed a complex and diverse bacterial community in the phenol degrading sludge. The phylogenetic analyses using MEGAN in combination with RDP classifier showed a massive predominance of Proteobacteria, represented mostly by the genera Diaphorobacter, Pseudomonas, Thauera and Comamonas. The functional classification of phenol degrading sludge sequence data set generated by MG-RAST showed the wide metabolic diversity of the microbial sludge, with a high percentage of genes involved in the aerobic and anaerobic degradation of phenol and derivatives. In addition, genes related to the metabolism of many other organic and xenobiotic compounds, such as toluene, biphenyl, naphthalene and benzoate, were found. Results gathered herein demonstrated that the phenol degrading sludge has complex phylogenetic and functional diversities, showing the potential of such community to degrade several pollutant compounds. This microbiota is likely to represent a rich resource of versatile and unknown enzymes which may be exploited for biotechnological processes such as bioremediation
