Lattice perturbation theory for gluonic and fermionic actions
We calculate the two loop Landau mean links and the one loop renormalisation
of the anisotropy for Wilson and improved SU(3) gauge actions, using twisted
boundary conditions as a gauge invariant infrared regulator. We show these
accurately describe simulated results, and outline a method for generating
Feynman rules for general lattice field theories, in a form suitable for

Global gene expression analysis provides insight into local adaptation to geothermal streams in tadpoles of the Andean toad Rhinella spinulosa
Indexación: Web of Science; Scopus.The anuran Rhinella spinulosa is distributed along the Andes Range at altitudes that undergo wide daily and seasonal variation in temperature. One of the populations inhabits geothermal streams, a stable environment that influences life history traits such as the timing of metamorphosis. To investigate whether this population has undergone local adaptation to this unique habitat, we carried out transcriptome analyses in animals from two localities in two developmental stages (prometamorphic and metamorphic) and exposed them to two temperatures (20 and 25 degrees C). RNA-Seq, de novo assembly and annotation defined a transcriptome revealing 194,469 high quality SNPs, with 1,507 genes under positive selection. Comparisons among the experimental conditions yielded 1,593 differentially expressed genes. A bioinformatics search for candidates revealed a total of 70 genes that are highly likely to be implicated in the adaptive response of the population living in a stable environment, compared to those living in an environment with variable temperatures. Most importantly, the population inhabiting the geothermal environment showed decreased transcriptional plasticity and reduced genetic variation compared to its counterpart from the non-stable environment. Psychobiological, Clinical, and Sociocultural Factors That Influence Black Women Seeking Treatment for Infertility: A Mixed-methods Study
OBJECTIVE: To provide a comprehensive and multidimensional description and conceptualization of the experiences of Black women seeking treatment for infertility. DESIGN: Convergent parallel mixed-methods study combining retrospective chart review data and semistructured interview data. SETTING: Private infertility clinic. PATIENT(S): African American/Black women between 18 and 44 years of age who presented for an initial infertility evaluation with a male partner between January 2015 and September 2019 at an infertility clinic in the metropolitan Washington D.C. area. INTERVENTION(S): None MAIN OUTCOME(S): Treatment seeking. MEASURE(S): Psychobiological, clinical, and sociocultural factors. RESULT(S): Along with the psychobiological, clinical, and sociocultural domains, we understood that Black women who sought treatment for infertility were older and overweight, had complex gynecological diagnoses, and experienced infertility for long periods of time. The delay in seeking treatment was possibly because of a low perceived risk of infertility, poor understanding of treatment options, inadequate referral patterns of primary care providers, and limited social support. Further, Black women experienced delays in seeking treatment because they attempted lifestyle-based self-interventions before considering medical interventions. Facilitators to care included psychological distress, complex gynecological medical history, and finding culturally competent providers. CONCLUSION(S): The study findings show that Black women in the United States are vulnerable to disparities in healthcare delivery, especially within reproductive endocrinology. Our findings highlight areas where Black women are experiencing missed opportunities for teaching, early identification, and early referrals for infertility-related concerns. Future studies should seek to reduce barriers to infertility treatment at the clinical and policy levels
Evolution of the Red Sequence Giant to Dwarf Ratio in Galaxy Clusters out to z ~ 0.5
We analyze deep g' and r' band data of 97 galaxy clusters imaged with MegaCam
on the Canada-France-Hawaii telescope. We compute the number of luminous
(giant) and faint (dwarf) galaxies using criteria based on the definitions of
de Lucia et al. (2007). Due to excellent image quality and uniformity of the
data and analysis, we probe the giant-to-dwarf ratio (GDR) out to z ~ 0.55.
With X-ray temperature (Tx) information for the majority of our clusters, we
constrain, for the first time, the Tx-corrected giant and dwarf evolution
separately. Our measurements support an evolving GDR over the redshift range
0.05 < z < 0.55. We show that modifying the (g'-r'), m_r' and K-correction used
to define dwarf and giant selection do not alter the conclusion regarding the
presence of evolution. We parameterize the GDR evolution using a linear
function of redshift (GDR = alpha * z + beta) with a best fit slope of alpha =
0.88 +/- 0.15 and normalization beta = 0.44 +/- 0.03. Contrary to claims of a
large intrinsic scatter, we find that the GDR data can be fully accounted for
using observational errors alone. Consistently, we find no evidence for a
correlation between GDR and cluster mass (via Tx or weak lensing). Lastly, the
data suggest that the evolution of the GDR at z < 0.2 is driven primarily by
dry merging of the massive giant galaxies, which when considered with previous
results at higher redshift, suggests a change in the dominant mechanism that

Chemical Evolution of CoCrMo Wear Particles: An in Situ Characterization Study
The unexpected high failure rates of CoCrMo hip implants are associated with the release of a large number of inflammatory wear particles. CoCrMo is nominally a stable material; however, previous chemical speciation studies on CoCrMo wear particles obtained from periprosthetic tissue revealed only trace amounts of Co remaining despite Co being the major component of the alloy. The unexpected high levels of Co dissolution in vivo raised significant clinical concerns particularly related to the Cr speciation in the dissolution process. At high electrochemical potentials, the alloy's Cr-rich passive film breaks down (transpassive polarization), facilitating alloy dissolution. The potential release of the carcinogenic Cr(VI) species in vivo has been a subject of debate. While the large-scale Co dissolution observed on in vivo produced particles could indicate a highly oxidizing in vivo environment, Cr(VI) species were not previously detected in periprosthetic tissue samples (except in the specific case of post-mortem tissue of diabetic patients). However, Cr(VI) is likely to be an unstable (transient) species in biological environments, and studies on periprosthetic tissue do not provide information about intermediate reaction products or the exposure history of the wear particles. Here, an in situ spectromicroscopy approach was developed, utilizing the high chemical resolution of synchrotron radiation, to study CoCrMo reactivity as a function of time and oxidizing conditions. The results reveal limited Co dissolution from CoCrMo particles, which increases dramatically at a critical electrochemical potential. Furthermore, in situ XAS detected only Cr(III) dissolution, even at potentials where Cr(VI) is known to be produced, suggesting that Cr(VI) species are extremely transient in simulated biological environments where the oxidation zone is small
Fluid flow through porous media using distinct element based numerical method
Many analytical and numerical methods have been developed to describe and analyse fluid flow through the reservoir’s porous media. The medium considered by most of these models is continuum based homogeneous media. But if the formation is not homogenous or if there is some discontinuity in the formation, most of these models become very complex and their solutions lose their accuracy, especially when the shape or reservoir geometry and boundary conditions are complex. In this paper, distinct element method (DEM) is used to simulate fluid flow in porous media. The DEM method is independent of the initial and boundary conditions, as well as reservoir geometry and discontinuity. The DEM based model proposed in this study is appeared to be unique in nature with capability to be used for any reservoir with higher degrees of complexity associated with the shape and geometry of its porous media, conditions of fluid flow, as well as initial and boundary conditions. This model has first been developed by Itasca Consulting Company and is further improved in this paper. Since the release of the model by Itasca, it has not been validated for fluid flow application in porous media, especially in case of petroleum reservoir. In this paper, two scenarios of linear and radial fluid flow in a finite reservoir are considered. Analytical models for these two cases are developed to set a benchmark for the comparison of simulation data. It is demonstrated that the simulation results are in good agreement with analytical results. Another major improvement in the model is using the servo controlled walls instead of particles to introduce tectonic stresses on the formation to simulate more realistic situations. The proposed model is then used to analyse fluid flow and pressure behaviour for hydraulically induced fractured and naturally fractured reservoir to justify the potential application of the model
Quantum metamorphosis of conformal symmetry in N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory
In gauge theories, not all rigid symmetries of the classical action can be
maintained manifestly in the quantization procedure, even in the absence of
anomalies. If this occurs for an anomaly-free symmetry, the effective action is
invariant under a transformation that differs from its classical counterpart by
quantum corrections. As shown by Fradkin and Palchik years ago, such a
phenomenon occurs for conformal symmetry in quantum Yang-Mills theories with
vanishing beta function, such as the N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory. More
recently, Jevicki et al demonstrated that the quantum metamorphosis of
conformal symmetry sheds light on the nature of the AdS/CFT correspondence. In
this paper, we derive the conformal Ward identity for the bosonic sector of the
N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory using the background field method. We then
compute the leading quantum modification of the conformal transformation for a
specific Abelian background which is of interest in the context of the AdS/CFT
correspondence. In the case of scalar fields, our final result agrees with that
of Jevicki et al. The resulting vector and scalar transformations coincide with

Orion Entry Handling Qualities Assessments
The Orion Command Module (CM) is a capsule designed to bring crew back from the International Space Station (ISS), the moon and beyond. The atmospheric entry portion of the flight is deigned to be flown in autopilot mode for nominal situations. However, there exists the possibility for the crew to take over manual control in off-nominal situations. In these instances, the spacecraft must meet specific handling qualities criteria. To address these criteria two separate assessments of the Orion CM s entry Handling Qualities (HQ) were conducted at NASA s Johnson Space Center (JSC) using the Cooper-Harper scale (Cooper & Harper, 1969). These assessments were conducted in the summers of 2008 and 2010 using the Advanced NASA Technology Architecture for Exploration Studies (ANTARES) six degree of freedom, high fidelity Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) simulation. This paper will address the specifics of the handling qualities criteria, the vehicle configuration, the scenarios flown, the simulation background and setup, crew interfaces and displays, piloting techniques, ratings and crew comments, pre- and post-fight briefings, lessons learned and changes made to improve the overall system performance. The data collection tools, methods, data reduction and output reports will also be discussed. The objective of the 2008 entry HQ assessment was to evaluate the handling qualities of the CM during a lunar skip return. A lunar skip entry case was selected because it was considered the most demanding of all bank control scenarios. Even though skip entry is not planned to be flown manually, it was hypothesized that if a pilot could fly the harder skip entry case, then they could also fly a simpler loads managed or ballistic (constant bank rate command) entry scenario. In addition, with the evaluation set-up of multiple tasks within the entry case, handling qualities ratings collected in the evaluation could be used to assess other scenarios such as the constant bank angle maintenance case. The 2008 entry assessment was divided into two sections (see Figure 1). Entry I was the first, high speed portion of a lunar return and Entry II was the second, lower speed portion of a lunar return, which is similar (but not identical) to a typical ISS return
Stereoselectivity and Structural Characterisation of an Imine Reductase (IRED) from Amycolatopsis orientalis
The imine reductase AoIRED from Amycolatopsis orientalis (Uniprot R4SNK4) catalyzes the NADPH-dependent reduction of a wide range of prochiral imines and iminium ions, predominantly with (S)-selectivity and with e.e.s of up to >99%. AoIRED displays up to 100-fold greater catalytic efficiency for 2-methyl-1-pyrroline (2MPN) compared to other IREDs, such as the enzyme from Streptomyces sp. GF3546, which also exhibits (S)-selectivity, and thus AoIRED is an interesting candidate for preparative synthesis. AoIRED exhibits unusual catalytic properties, with inversion of stereoselectivity observed between structurally similar substrates, and also, in the case of 1-methyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline, for the same substrate, dependent on the age of the enzyme after purification. The structure of AoIRED has been determined in an ‘open’ apo-form, revealing a canonical dimeric IRED fold in which the active site is formed between the N- and C-terminal domains of participating monomers. Co-crystallisation with NADPH gave a ‘closed’ form in complex with the cofactor, in which a relative closure of domains, and associated loop movements, has resulted in a much smaller active site. A ternary complex was also obtained by co-crystallization with NADPH and 1-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline [(MTQ], and reveals a binding site for the (R)-amine product which places the chiral carbon within 4 Å of the putative location of the C4 atom of NADPH that delivers hydride to the C=N bond of the substrate. The ternary complex has permitted structure-informed mutation of the active site, resulting in mutants including Y179A, Y179F and N241A, of altered activity and stereoselectivity
On the fermionic signature of the lattice monopoles
We consider fermions in the field of static monopole-like configurations in
the Euclidean space-time. In all the cases considered there exists an infinite
number of zero modes, labeled by frequency i\omega. The existence of such modes
is a manifestation of instability of the vacuum in the presence of the
monopoles and massless fermions. In the Minkowski space the corresponding
phenomenon is well known and is a cornerstone of the theory of the magnetic
catalysis. Moreover, the well known zero mode of Jackiw and Rebbi corresponds
to the limiting case, \omega = 0. We provide arguments why the chiral
condensate could be linked to the density of the monopoles in the infrared
cluster. A mechanism which can naturally explain the equivalence of the
critical temperatures for the deconfinement and chiral transitions, is
proposed. We discuss possible implications for the phenomenology of the lattice
