"MP 345, 73-200""Five seconds. One, two, three, four, five. That doesn’t sound like much time, but that is all it would, take the computerized financial information system to assemble and print a detailed financial summary and analysis for your firm just like the examples that are illustrated in this manual. See and study over one hundred different financial comparisons of your own business operation alongside current industry averages that are being developed from the composite records of comparable farm supply firms in the state. Receive complete and up-to-date earnings statements, balance sheets, and ratio analysis summaries for both your firm and the industry. You get this and more simply by cooperating in the computerized financial information system that has recently been developed by the University of Missouri. It is a program designed especially for the farm supply industry to summarize firm financial performance, compare firm records to those of the industry, and identify just where you are making or losing the most money within your operation. Sound interesting? Read this user information manual for further detail. It contains reproductions and descriptions of the type of financial analysis your firm can receive and it outlines the requirements that your firm must meet in order to participate in the information system."--Introduction

Anomalous Suppression of Valley Splittings in Lead Salt Nanocrystals without Inversion Center

Atomistic sp3d5s* tight-binding theory of PbSe and PbS nanocrystals is developed. It is demonstrated, that the valley splittings of confined electrons and holes strongly and peculiarly depend on the geometry of a nanocrystal. When the nanocrystal lacks a microscopic center of inversion and has T_d symmetry, the splitting is strongly suppressed as compared to the more symmetric nanocrystals with O_h symmetry, having an inversion center.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, 1 tabl

Specification and Verification of Media Constraints using UPPAAL

    Get PDF
We present the formal specification and verification of a multimedia stream. The stream is described in a timed automata notation. We verify that the stream satisfies certain quality of service properties, in particular, throughput and end-to-end latency. The verification tool used is the real-time model checker UPPAAL

Carbon content of electricity futures in Phase II of the EU ETS

    Get PDF
We estimate the relationship between electricity, fuel and carbon prices in Germany, France, the Netherlands, the Nord Pool market and Spain, using one-year futures for base and peakload prices for the years 2009--2012, corresponding to physical settlement during the second market phase of the EU ETS. We employ a series of estimation methods that allow for an increasing interaction between electricity and input prices on the one hand, and between electricity markets on the other. The results vary by country due to different generation portfolios. Overall, we find that (a) carbon costs are passed through fully in most countries; (b) under some model specifications, cost pass-through is higher during peakload than during baseload for France, Germany and the Netherlands; and (c) the results are sensitive to the degree of cross-commodity and cross-market interaction allowed

Incest in the 1990s: reading Anais Nin's 'Father Story'

    Get PDF
In the summer of 1933, diarist, author and critic Anaïs Nin joined her father for a short vacation in France. Nin wrote about the trip in her diary afterwards, referring to it as the ‘Father Story.’ In the story, she details how, aged 30, she embarked upon an affair with her father which would last for several months. Rather than displaying the signs of trauma that we have come to expect from the incest narrative such as dissociation, blame and recrimination, the ‘Father Story’ is more ambiguous in its tone. Part-tribute to the father, part-seduction narrative, part-confession, this is a story that resists categorisation – a resistance that has ethical, critical and formal ramifications for our reading of incest narratives. Upon its publication in the early 1990s, critics responded to the ‘Father Story’ as fantastical, excessive and vulgar. These responses form part of a wider American father story during this period; a story about memory, therapy culture, family values and the concealed rules of testimony. This article reads Anaïs Nin’s narrative as a text which raises fundamental questions about why certain father (and daughter) stories are culturally acceptable and others are not

Structural and electronic properties of Pb1-xCdxTe and Pb1-xMnxTe ternary alloys

A systematic theoretical study of two PbTe-based ternary alloys, Pb1-xCdxTe and Pb1-xMnxTe, is reported. First, using ab initio methods we study the stability of the crystal structure of CdTe - PbTe solid solutions, to predict the composition for which rock-salt structure of PbTe changes into zinc-blende structure of CdTe. The dependence of the lattice parameter on Cd (Mn) content x in the mixed crystals is studied by the same methods. The obtained decrease of the lattice constant with x agrees with what is observed in both alloys. The band structures of PbTe-based ternary compounds are calculated within a tight-binding approach. To describe correctly the constituent materials new tight-binding parameterizations for PbTe and MnTe bulk crystals as well as a tight-binding description of rock-salt CdTe are proposed. For both studied ternary alloys, the calculated band gap in the L point increases with x, in qualitative agreement with photoluminescence measurements in the infrared. The results show also that in p-type Pb1-xCdxTe and Pb1-xMnxTe mixed crystals an enhancement of thermoelectrical power can be expected.Comment: 10 pages, 13 figures, submitted to Physical Review
