    The composition of T cell subtypes in duodenal biopsies are altered in coeliac disease patients

    One of the hallmarks of Celiac disease (CD) is intraepithelial lymphocytosis in the small intestine. Until now, investigations to characterize the T cell subpopulations within the epithelial layer have not discriminated between the heterodimeric co-receptor molecule, CD8αβ, and the possibly immunoregulatory CD8αα homodimer molecule. Besides TCRαβ+ CD4+ cells, no other phenotypes have been shown to be gluten-reactive. Using flow cytometry on lymphocytes from duodenal biopsies, we determined that the number of B cells (CD3- CD19+) and the number of CD3+ CD4- CD8- double-negative (DN) T cells were elevated 6-7 fold in children with CD. We next isolated and quantified intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) from biopsies obtained from patients (both children and adults) with CD, potential CD and non-CD controls. Flow cytometric analysis of the duodenal T cell subpopulations was performed including the markers TCRαβ, TCRγδ, CD4, CD8α and CD8β. Proportions of γδ T cells and CD8αβ+ cells among IELs were increased in CD patients, whereas proportions of CD4+ CD8αα+ and CD4+ single-positive T cells were decreased. Additionally, two gluten-reactive T cell lines (TCLs) derived from CD biopsies were analyzed for changes in proportions of T cell subsets before and after gluten stimulation. In a proliferation assay, dividing cells were tracked with carboxyfluorescein succinimidyl ester (CFSE), and both αβ and γδ T cells proliferated in response to gluten. Changes in duodenal T cell subpopulations in potential CD patients followed the same pattern as for CD patients, but with less pronounced effect

    Study of charmonium and charmonium-like contributions in B+ → J/ψηK+ decays

    A study of B+→ J/ψηK+ decays, followed by J/ψ → μ+μ− and η → γγ, is performed using a dataset collected with the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. The J/ψη mass spectrum is investigated for contributions from charmonia and charmonium-like states. Evidence is found for the B+→ (ψ2(3823) → J/ψη)K+ and B+→ (ψ(4040) → J/ψη)K+ decays with significance of 3.4 and 4.7 standard deviations, respectively. This constitutes the first evidence for the ψ2(3823) → J/ψη decay

    Observation of the doubly charmed baryon decay Ξcc++→Ξc′+π+

    The Ξcc++→Ξc′+π+ decay is observed using proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−1. The Ξcc++→Ξc′+π+ decay is reconstructed partially, where the photon from the Ξc′+→Ξc+γ decay is not reconstructed and the pK−π+ final state of the Ξc+ baryon is employed. The Ξcc++→Ξc′+π+branching fraction relative to that of the Ξcc++→Ξc+π+ decay is measured to be 1.41 ± 0.17 ± 0.10, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.     Observation of the Decay Λ0b→Λ+cτ−¯ν

    The first observation of the semileptonic b-baryon decay Λb0→Λc+τ-ν¯τ, with a significance of 6.1σ, is reported using a data sample corresponding to 3 fb-1 of integrated luminosity, collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV at the LHC. The τ- lepton is reconstructed in the hadronic decay to three charged pions. The ratio K=B(Λb0→Λc+τ-ν¯τ)/B(Λb0→Λc+π-π+π-) is measured to be 2.46±0.27±0.40, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The branching fraction B(Λb0→Λc+τ-ν¯τ)=(1.50±0.16±0.25±0.23)% is obtained, where the third uncertainty is from the external branching fraction of the normalization channel Λb0→Λc+π-π+π-. The ratio of semileptonic branching fractions R(Λc+)B(Λb0→Λc+τ-ν¯τ)/B(Λb0→Λc+μ-ν¯μ) is derived to be 0.242±0.026±0.040±0.059, where the external branching fraction uncertainty from the channel Λb0→Λc+μ-ν¯μ contributes to the last term. This result is in agreement with the standard model prediction

    Measurement of the photon polarization in ΛbΛγ\Lambda_b \to \Lambda \gamma decays

    The photon polarization in bsγb \to s \gamma transitions is measured for the first time in radiative b-baryon decays exploiting the unique spin structure of ΛbΛγ\Lambda_b \to \Lambda \gamma decays. A data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb16\;fb^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment in pppp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13  TeV13\;TeV is used. The photon polarization is measured to be αγ=0.820.260.13+0.17+0.04\alpha_{\gamma}= 0.82^{\,+\,0.17\,+\,0.04}_{\,-\,0.26\,-\,0.13}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This result is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction and previous measurements in b-meson decays.     First observation of a doubly charged tetraquark and its neutral partner

    A combined amplitude analysis is performed for the decays B0D0Ds+πB^0 \rightarrow \overline{D}^0 D^+_s\pi^- and B+DDs+π+B^+\rightarrow D^- D^+_s\pi^+, which are related by isospin symmetry. The analysis is based on data collected by the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13TeV\,\rm{TeV}. The full data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9fb1\,\rm{fb^{-1}}. Two new resonant states with masses of 2.908±0.011±0.020GeV2.908\pm0.011\pm0.020\,\rm{GeV} and widths of 0.136±0.023±0.011GeV0.136\pm0.023\pm0.011\,\rm{GeV} are observed, which decay to Ds+π+D^+_s\pi^+ and Ds+πD^+_s\pi^- respectively. The former state indicates the first observation of a doubly charged open-charm tetraquark state with minimal quark content [csˉudˉ][c\bar{s}u\bar{d}], and the latter state is a neutral tetraquark composed of [csˉuˉd][c\bar{s}\bar{u}d] quarks.     Search for the doubly heavy baryon Ξbc+\it{\Xi}_{bc}^{+} decaying to J/ψΞc+J/\it{\psi} \it{\Xi}_{c}^{+}

    A first search for the Ξbc+J/ψΞc+\it{\Xi}_{bc}^{+}\to J/\it{\psi}\it{\Xi}_{c}^{+} decay is performed by the LHCb experiment with a data sample of proton-proton collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb19\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1} recorded at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13TeV13\mathrm{\,Te\kern -0.1em V}. Two peaking structures are seen with a local (global) significance of 4.3(2.8)4.3\,(2.8) and 4.1(2.4)4.1\,(2.4) standard deviations at masses of 6571MeV ⁣/c26571\,\mathrm{Me\kern -0.1em V\!/}c^2 and 6694MeV ⁣/c26694\,\mathrm{Me\kern -0.1em V\!/}c^2, respectively. Upper limits are set on the Ξbc+\it{\Xi}_{bc}^{+} baryon production cross-section times the branching fraction relative to that of the Bc+J/ψDs+B_{c}^{+}\to J/\it{\psi} D_{s}^{+} decay at centre-of-mass energies of 8 and 13TeV13\mathrm{\,Te\kern -0.1em V}, in the Ξbc+\it{\Xi}_{bc}^{+} and in the Bc+B_{c}^{+} rapidity and transverse-momentum ranges from 2.0 to 4.5 and 0 to 20GeV ⁣/c20\,\mathrm{Ge\kern -0.1em V\!/}c, respectively.     Observation of a resonant structure near the Ds+DsD_s^+ D_s^- threshold in the B+Ds+DsK+B^+\to D_s^+ D_s^- K^+ decay

    An amplitude analysis of the B+Ds+DsK+B^+\to D_s^+ D_s^- K^+ decay is carried out to study for the first time its intermediate resonant contributions, using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. A near-threshold peaking structure, referred to as X(3960)X(3960), is observed in the Ds+DsD_s^+ D_s^- invariant-mass spectrum with significance greater than 12 standard deviations. The mass, width and the quantum numbers of the structure are measured to be 3956±5±103956\pm5\pm10 MeV, 43±13±843\pm13\pm8 MeV and JPC=0++J^{PC}=0^{++}, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The properties of the new structure are consistent with recent theoretical predictions for a state composed of ccˉssˉc\bar{c}s\bar{s} quarks. Evidence for an additional structure is found around 4140 MeV in the Ds+DsD_s^+ D_s^- invariant mass, which might be caused either by a new resonance with the 0++0^{++} assignment or by a J/ψϕDs+DsJ/\psi \phi\leftrightarrow D_s^+ D_s^- coupled-channel effect.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2022-018.html (LHCb public pages

    Angular analysis of D0π+πμ+μD^0 \to \pi^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^- and D0K+Kμ+μD^0 \to K^+K^-\mu^+\mu^- decays and search for CPCP violation

    The first full angular analysis and an updated measurement of the decay-rate CPCP asymmetry of the D0π+πμ+μD^0 \to \pi^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^- and D0K+Kμ+μD^0 \to K^+K^-\mu^+\mu^- decays are reported. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb1^{-1}. The full set of CPCP-averaged angular observables and their CPCP asymmetries are measured as a function of the dimuon invariant mass.     Searches for rare Bs0 and B 0 decays into four muons

    Searches for rare Bs0 and B0 decays into four muons are performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. Direct decays and decays via light scalar and J/ψ resonances are considered. No evidence for the six decays searched for is found and upper limits at the 95% confidence level on their branching fractions ranging between 1.8 × 10−10 and 2.6 × 10−9 are set.
