Actual survey on the actions of the countries in Europe to implement the inspection system of sprayers concerning the Directive 2009/128/EC
With a view to the SPISE 4 workshop at the end of the year 2011 a further survey in the European Member States (MS) and other countries in Europe was carried out. The aim of this survey was to compile information concerning the actual situation of sprayer inspection and the planning for the implementation of an inspection system following the Framework directive. The responsible colleagues of all involved countries got a short questionnaire where they updated the filled data and gave new information
Social Isolation and Weapon Use in Intimate Partner Violence Incidents in Rural Areas
This study relies on the concept of social isolation to analyze variation in weapon use in intimate partner violence (IPV) cases in rural North Carolina. Social isolation and IPV weapon use are operationalized through census and IPV incident data collected in three rural counties in southeastern North Carolina. The authors relied on reports of IPV from law enforcement agencies within these counties, which were geocoded by address and located within census tracts to assess IPV weapon use and its correlates across sub-county areas. The current study expands on studies of weapon use and social isolation by criminologists and public health researchers by assessing the nature of IPV incidents, accounting for possible incident-level and contextual correlates. Statistical analyses indicate that sex of the attacker (female) and age are the only significant predictors of weapon use. We discuss the implications of these findings for further research on weapon use and IPV in rural areas

A measurement of the pion radius
We propose a wire spark chamber experiment to measure the pion electromagnetic radius accurate to {+-}0.03f by measuring the scattering cross section for 50-80 GeV pions from electrons in a liquid hydrogen target. The data will distinguish between the {rho} dominance prediction of 0.64f and the ''proton-like'' radius to 0.81f
A Study of Muon Neutrino Disappearance Using the Fermilab Main Injector Neutrino Beam
We report the results of a search for muon-neutrino disappearance by the Main
Injector Neutrino Oscillation Search. The experiment uses two detectors
separated by 734 km to observe a beam of neutrinos created by the Neutrinos at
the Main Injector facility at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. The data
were collected in the first 282 days of beam operations and correspond to an
exposure of 1.27e20 protons on target. Based on measurements in the Near
Detector, in the absence of neutrino oscillations we expected 336 +/- 14
muon-neutrino charged-current interactions at the Far Detector but observed
215. This deficit of events corresponds to a significance of 5.2 standard
deviations. The deficit is energy dependent and is consistent with two-flavor
neutrino oscillations according to delta m-squared = 2.74e-3 +0.44/-0.26e-3
eV^2 and sin^2(2 theta) > 0.87 at 68% confidence level.Comment: In submission to Phys. Rev.
