Evaluation of parameters influencing the withdrawal strength of oak and beech dowels

    Get PDF
The withdrawal strength of plain dowels with nominal diameter of 8 mm was compared with the spiral dowels manufactured from beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and oak wood (Quercus robur L.). The test specimens were tested after conditioning at relative humidity (RH) 25%, 45%, 65%, and 85% at a constant temperature of 20 oC. Therefore, the influence of relative humidity (respective moisture content), dowel structure, and wood species of the dowels on the withdrawal strength was determined. The structure and low humidity (RH 25%) caused the highest strength (8.6 MPa) of spiral dowels. Compared to plain dowels, the higher withdrawal strength of spiral dowels was statistically significant. Adversely, the lowest withdrawal strength was found for plain beech dowels (3 MPa), which, in addition to higher relative humidity (RH 85%), was also caused by a combination of plain structure and greater diameter of the dowels, thereby decreasing the amount of adhesive in the bonded joint. The influence of the wood species of the dowels was not statistically significant overall.O

Phosphatase-mediated bioprecipitation of lead by soil fungi

    Get PDF
Geoactive soil fungi were examined for their ability to release inorganic phosphate (Pi ) and mediate lead bioprecipitation during growth on organic phosphate substrates. Aspergillus niger and Paecilomyces javanicus grew in 5 mM Pb(NO3 )2 -containing media amended with glycerol 2-phosphate (G2P) or phytic acid (PyA) as sole P sources, and liberated Pi into the medium. This resulted in almost complete removal of Pb from solution and extensive precipitation of lead-containing minerals around the biomass, confirming the importance of the mycelium as a reactive network for biomineralization. The minerals were identified as pyromorphite (Pb5 (PO4 )3 Cl), only produced by P. javanicus, and lead oxalate (PbC2 O4 ), produced by A. niger and P. javanicus. Geochemical modelling of lead and lead mineral speciation as a function of pH and oxalate closely correlated with experimental conditions and data. Two main lead biomineralization mechanisms were therefore distinguished: pyromorphite formation depending on organic phosphate hydrolysis and lead oxalate formation depending on oxalate excretion. This also indicated species specificity in biomineralization depending on nutrition and physiology. Our findings provide further understanding of lead geomycology and organic phosphates as a biomineralization substrate, and are also relevant to metal immobilization biotechnologies for bioremediation, metal and P biorecovery, and utilization of waste organic phosphates

Evaluation of possibility of modifying selected part of public lighting network for EV charging

    No full text
The master thesis deals with the concept of smart cities in the context of motivation for the use of the synergy of public lighting network and charging points. The thesis provides an overview of projects from the Czech Republic and abroad focusing on the adaptation of the urban public lighting network for charging electric vehicles. Different variants of charging station installations and their management are discussed. Another important topic is the selection of a suitable location for charging stations and the concept of synergistic connection of these stations with the existing public lighting network. The thesis proposes scenarios for using the existing public lighting network for charging electric vehicles and scenarios for bringing a parallel cable to this network in selected Brno locations. The aim is to optimize the efficiency and performance of the public lighting network and at the same time provide a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The results of the thesis represent a valuable contribution to urban planning and the development of smart cities that focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility. The synergy between the public lighting network and charging points represents a potential for efficient use of infrastructure in the urban environment while contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions

The bachelor's thesis deals with the evaluation of the infrastructure of charging stations and the development of fast charging stations. The first part describes the basic charging modes and parameters of selected chargers. The second part of the work presents an overview of battery electric cars and slow and fast charging. Furthermore, the work concerns the electric car policy in Europe and especially in three selected countries: The Kingdom of Norway, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Czech Republic. In the last part of the work, three scenarios of electromobility development in the selected location in Brno were compiled and subsequently the load of these scenarios on the network in the Daisy Bizon designer program was verified

Fire-Resistant Sandwich-Structured Composite Material Based on Alternative Materials and Its Physical and Mechanical Properties

    No full text
The development of composite materials from alternative raw materials, and the design of their properties for the intended purpose is an integral part of the rational management of raw materials and waste recycling. The submitted paper comprehensively assesses the physical and mechanical properties of sandwich composite material made from particles of winter rapeseed stalks, geopolymer and reinforcing basalt lattices. The developed composite panel is designed for use as a filler in constructions (building or building joinery). The observed properties were: bending characteristics, internal bonding, thermal conductivity coefficient and combustion characteristics. The results showed that the density of the particleboard has a significant effect on the resulting mechanical properties of the entire sandwich panel. On the contrary, the density of the second layer of the sandwich panel, geopolymer, did not have the same influence on its mechanical properties as the density of the particleboard. The basalt fibre reinforcement lattice positively affected the mechanical properties of sandwich composites only if it was sufficiently embedded in the structure of the particle board. All of the manufactured sandwich composites resisted flame for more than 13 min and the fire resistance was positively affected by the density of the geopolymer layer
