    This essay introduces a methodological approach which looks for efficiency in reading. Its main motivating agents are pupils belonging to Compulsory Secondary Education, a stage which is normally chosen by philologists in order to develop their professional career as teachers. This essay aims at approaching teachers to a different strategy of reading focused on its improvement. The first part makes an analysis on the situation of reading from a curricular viewpoint. This will be our perspective when we begin our teaching career. This curricular outlook shows the different laws and plans on education proposed by the government. This is the legal framework on which secondary school teachers have to base in order to teach. The second part of this essay focuses on an active methodology to be developed in the classroom. This methodology appears divided in different aspects used to make the work of the teacher easier, taking the proposed reading strategies into account. These parts can be minimized by letting the pupil give his or her opinion on the goals of this method. The third part would be a practical approach developed by a group of 2nd year students. The example chosen has to do with a novel written by Joan Manuel Gisbert. As we said before, these parts can be minimized or they can simply be done step by step

    Good practices in school to educate critical citizens: the youth parliament programme from the perspective of secondary school teachers in training

    ERPA International Congresses on Education 2018This paper refers to the European project Erasmus + ELEF (European Learning Environment Formats for Citizenship and Democracy, Reference number 580426). The aim of this project is to develop, implement, evaluate and replicate democratic and innovative learning environments (good practices) in both educational institutions and informal and community learning environments. In this context, over the course of a year, a number of experiences considered relevant have been selected, which constitute the sample of this research on good practices. This contribution presents the educational programme “Youth Parliament”. This is a project with a long history and whose main objective is to train responsible citizens, with the collaboration of various educational agents. The evaluation carried out by the Secondary Education teachers in training on the potentialities and limitations of the programme is shown, based on the experiences carried out in the participating educational centres during the academic year 2016-2017

    Emotional intelligence and hot and cool cognitive control ability

    Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to perceive, use, understand, and regulate emotions. The EI construct has been organized following three main approaches: performance-based ability model, a self-report mixed model, and a self-report ability model. EI appears to be beneficial to the performance of “hot” (i.e., emotionally laden) cognitive tasks when using performance-based ability models but not when using self-report EI models. The aim of the present study is to analyze the relationship between the three models of EI and cognitive control ability during the performance of hot and “cool” (i.e., non-emotionally laden) “go/no-go” tasks. 187 undergraduate students participated in the experimental design. They completed the three EI tests of interest as well as go/no-go tasks; the stimuli used for the hot and cool cognitive task were faces and geometric figures, respectively. Results show that individuals with higher EI, measured through the performance-based ability test, perform better on a hot cognitive control task. Specifically, we provide evidence for negative associations between the “managing” branch of EI measured through the performance-based ability test of EI and the cognitive control index of the hot go/no-go task; when using the self-report EI instruments, no consistent findings were achieved. The study found no such results with the cool task. Findings in terms of the validity and different implications of the different EI models are discussed.Universidad de Málaga.     The effects of the quality of social relationships and emotion regulation ability on the happiness of introvert individuals

    Previous research has shown that extraverts are happier than introverts and, although happy introverts exist, it is unclear under what conditions they can achieve happiness. The aim of the present study is to analyze the quality of social relationships and emotion regulation ability as a possible factor for happiness in introvert individuals. 1006 adults (42% males) completed measures of extraversion, neuroticism, quality of social relationships, emotion regulation ability and happiness. Results shows that introverts have significantly lower happiness, quality of life, quality of social relationship and emotion regulation ability scores than extraverts. Besides, those individuals with high quality social relationships or high emotion regulation ability were happier. Introverts were happier when they had high scores for quality of social relationships and emotion regulation ability, however the effect size was small. These results suggest that emotion regulation and social relationships are important to understand the relationships between introversion and happiness.Universidad de Málaga.     The relationship between the three models of emotional intelligence and psychopathy: a systematic review

    Psychopaths are usually characterized as having numerous troubles with social and emotional facets in their daily. In addition, these individuals generate a series of harmful situations to society, such as violence and crime. Due to this, it is very important to find those variables that can reduce these behaviors. In this regard, Emotional Intelligence (EI) or the ability to perceive, use, understand and regulate emotions is a potentially useful variable. EI has been categorized according to three main approaches: performance-based ability, self-report ability and self-report mixed models. Several studies have analyzed the relationship between EI and psychopathy, however inconsistent results have been found. These inconsistencies may be due to the EI model employed to measure it. The objective of our study is to systematically review the previous literature about the relationship between the three models of EI and psychopathy, both in the clinical and total population.Scopus and Medline were searched for finding relevant articles. 29 eligible studies were identified. The results were divided according to the EI model and the population used.The results for both the total and clinical population differ according to the measure of EI employed. Specifically, through performance-based ability models, the majority of studies find a negative relationship between EI and psychopathy, and when EI is measured using self-reports, the results are inconsistent. In conclusion, the results suggest that higher EI abilities measured through performance-based ability models - but not through self-reports - are related to lower psychopathy deficits.     Augmented Reality Environments in Learning, Communicational and Professional Contexts in Higher Education

    This paper explores educational and professional uses of augmented learning environment concerned with issues of training and entertainment.We analyze the state-of-art research of some scenarios based on augmented reality. Some examples for the purpose of education and simulation are described. These applications show that augmented reality can be means of enhancing, motivating and stimulating learners’ understanding of certain events, especially those for which the traditional notion of instructional learning have proven inappropriate or difficult. Furthermore, the students can learn in a quick mode by interacting on the augmented environments

    This work presents the analysis of a proposal designed in the field of initial teacher training, the aim of which is to promote the presence of schools in a university context. With the objective of enabling students to experience practical and reflective learning, we have designed a process of interuniversity collaboration focused on horizontally developing interaction and the generation of knowledge. The deconstruction of the process, based on a narrative approach, has allowed us to open a space to reflect on the actions that encourage participation and exchange between undergraduate students from different universities and promote links with schools. The results show the transformations of the protagonists of the experience and of those who participated indirectly, redefining personal stories in the context of collaborative work and the improvement of our professional development. It also shows the implications of an interuniversity project, recounting the richness inherent in the mixture of geographical and cultural contexts involved. The dilemmas and critical incidents allow us to guide the introduction of improvements in the next cycle of collaboration

    Looking beyond the influence of origin and destination factors: The role of spillovers in migration from Spain to Europe

    This paper analyses the factors involved in out-migration of the working-age native population from Spain to European countries during and after the Great Recession (2008-2016), accounting for the role of spatial spillovers through a spatial panel Durbin model. Furthermore, the study provides a comparative analysis between young and adult out-migrants to explore whether they hold different motivations. The findings reveal that out-migration of natives responded mainly to labour incentives and social protection expenditure, although the presence of amenities also mattered. Furthermore, they point to the relevance of social networks of former Spanish out-migrants residing in Europe as a pull factor, being this effect higher for young than for adult out-migrants. Finally, results disclose, regardless of the age group, the existence of very remarkable spatial spillovers

    Biodiesel production from olive-pomace oil of steam-treated alperujo

    Recently interest has been revived in the use of plant-derived waste oils as renewable replacements for fossil diesel fuel. Olive–pomace oil (OPO) extracted from alperujo (by-product of processed olives for olive oil extraction), and produced it in considerable quantities throughout the Mediterranean countries, can be used for biodiesel production. A steam treatment of alperujo is being implemented in OPO extraction industry. This steam treatment improves the solid–liquid separation by centrifugation and facilitates the drying for further extraction of OPO. It has been verified that the steam treatment of this by-product also increases the concentration of OPO in the resulting treated solid, a key factor from an economic point of view. In the present work, crude OPO from steam-treated alperujo was found to be good source for producing biodiesel. Oil enrichment, acidity, biodiesel yield and fatty acid methyl ester composition were evaluated and compared with the results of the untreated samples. Yields and some general physicochemical properties of the quality of biodiesel were also compared to those obtained with other oils commonly used in biodiesel production. As for biodiesel yield no differences were observed. A transesterification process which included two steps was used (acid esterification followed by alkali transesterification). The maximum biodiesel yield was obtained using molar ratio methanol/triglycerides 6:1 in presence of sodium hydroxide at a concentration of 1% (w/w), reaction temperature 60 °C and reaction time 80 min.
