The Impact of Infrastructure on Mexican Manufacturing Growth

This paper analyses the impact of infrastructure on the growth rate of the Mexican manufacturing sector. For such purpose, two measures of infrastructure are used: highways and electricity. Further, we also estimate the degree of returns to scale and the markup. We pooled two digit industries to obtain the estimates of the whole manufacturing sector. For the entire manufacturing sector, our results do not show evidence of increasing returns but the existence of market power cannot be rejected. We find that both types of public infrastructure have a significant effect on manufacturing growth and its inclusion reduces the estimated values of returns to scale and market power. Once we use sectoral data, we obtain mixed results: public infrastructure affects significantly only some sectors.

En este texto daremos cuenta de un proyecto de investigación artística que se ha ocupado de la desecación de la cuenca central mexicana, sus posteriores transformaciones, procesos de urbanización, desarrollo y disputas por la tierra, a través de una museología experimental particular. El Museo Animista del Lago de Texcoco se ha formado desde 2015 como un ejercicio de re-construcción de la condición híbrida de este territorio en conflicto, concebido para albergar las contradicciones, fracturas y tensiones políticas de este contexto, disponiéndose también para pensar otros contextos con problemáticas afines. Aquí, nos ocuparemos de las relaciones entre el lago de Texcoco y las reservas acuíferas del estado de Michoacán. Siendo un museo que migra, muta y se expande fuera de los espacios de exhibición, este museo ha acogido en él procesos pedagógicos, diálogos entre saberes diversos y formas de acción directa. Replanteando las relaciones entre autoría artística, piezas exhibidas, mediaciones y visitantes —desde una perspectiva que actualiza la noción de animismo para pensar qué existe y cómo existen las cosas que alberga su museología—, el Museo Animista del Lago de Texcoco ha permitido que las cosas y personas que lo construyen, habitan o transitan por él conversen, situando siempre sus conversaciones en relación a los lagos, la tierra y el agua que las convocan.This text will examine a specific artistic research project: the Animist Museum of Lake Texcoco has accounted for the desiccation of Mexico’s central basin, its further transformations, urbanization processes, development enterprises, and disputes for land ownership, through an experimental museology of sorts. Said project has been formed since 2015 as a way of re-constructing the hybrid condition of this disputed territory, its contradictions, fractures, and political tensions, while opening a window at other contexts with akin situations: we will unravel Lake Texcoco’s particular relationship with the state of Michoacan’s water reservoirs. Standing on a migrant, mutant, and expansive type of museology which exceeds the boundaries of the exhibition space, this museum has hosted pedagogical processes, dialogues between diverse knowledge producers, as well as direct action. Rethinking the relationships between artistic authorship, exhibits, mediations, and visitors —from an animist perspective which considers what exists and how things may exist within its museology—, the Animist Museum of Lake Texcoco has enabled the people and objects who construct, inhabit or traverse it, to sustain conversations on lakes, land, and water

Cayley-Klein Poisson Homogeneous Spaces

Producción CientíficaThe nine two-dimensional Cayley–Klein geometries are firstly reviewed by following a graded contraction approach. Each geometry is considered as a set of three symmetrical homogeneous spaces (of points and two kinds of lines), in such a manner that the graded contraction parameters determine their curvature and signature. Secondly, new Poisson homogeneous spaces are constructed by making use of certain Poisson–Lie structures on the corresponding motion groups. Therefore, the quantization of these spaces provides noncommutative analogues of the Cayley–Klein geometries. Railway deformation detected by DInSAR over active sinkholes in the Ebro Valley evaporite karst, Spain

Subsidence was measured for the first time on railway tracks in the central sector of Ebro Valley (NE Spain) using Differential Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (DInSAR) techniques. This area is affected by evaporite karst and the analysed railway corridors traverse active sinkholes that produce deformations in these infrastructures. One of the railway tracks affected by slight settlements is the Madrid-Barcelona high-speed line, a form of transport infrastructure highly vulnerable to ground deformation processes. Our analysis based on DInSAR measurements and geomorphological surveys indicates that this line shows dissolution-induced subsidence and compaction of anthropogenic deposits (infills and embankments). Significant sinkhole-related subsidence was also measured by DInSAR techniques on the Castejón-Zaragoza conventional railway line. This study demonstrates that DInSAR velocity maps, coupled with detailed geomorphological surveys, may help in the identification of the railway track sections that are affected by active subsidence

Shannon information entropy for a quantum nonlinear oscillator on a space of non-constant curvature

The so-called Darboux III oscillator is an exactly solvable N-dimensional nonlinear oscillator defined on a radially symmetric space with non-constant negative curvature. This oscillator can be interpreted as a smooth (super)integrable deformation of the usual N-dimensional harmonic oscillator in terms of a non-negative parameter λ which is directly related to the curvature of the underlying space. In this paper, a detailed study of the Shannon information entropy for the quantum version of the Darboux III oscillator is presented, and the interplay between entropy and curvature is analysed. In particular, analytical results for the Shannon entropy in the position space can be found in the N-dimensional case, and the known results for the quantum states of the N-dimensional harmonic oscillator are recovered in the limit of vanishing curvature λ → 0. However, the Fourier transform of the Darboux III wave functions cannot be computed in exact form, thus preventing the analytical study of the information entropy in momentum space. Nevertheless, we have computed the latter numerically both in the one and three-dimensional cases and we have found that by increasing the absolute value of the negative curvature (through a larger λ parameter) the information entropy in position space increases, while in momentum space it becomes smaller. This result is indeed consistent with the spreading properties of the wave functions of this quantum nonlinear oscillator, which are explicitly shown. Las alianzas público privadas en la propuesta de reforma a la educación superior

Este ensayo pretende realizar un análisis a la reforma a la educación superior planteada por el gobierno nacional, visto desde uno de sus cuatro pilares, que son las alianzas públicos privadas como modelo de gestión en el cumplimiento de los fines del estado. Se parte de un estudio de la dicotomía entre lo público y lo privado, siguiendo por el origen, definiciones y características de las alianzas que realiza el estado con el sector privado, presentando así su enfoque con respecto a la reforma a la educación superior, y posteriormente analizar los pros y los contras que han desatado fuertes polémicas de la comunidad estudiantil y académica, que se oponen a la misma. Su fin la viabilidad de las mismas en un concepto y en un marco de inversión y no de privatización
