This paper sought to explain the Brazilian geopolitical strategy for the South Atlantic since 2000. For this purpose, the general outlines of Brazil’s international insertion and Brazilian bilateral and multilateral relations with South Atlantic countries and extra-regional powers were presented. Domestic policies werealso taken into consideration. In conclusion, the Brazilian strategy is defensive, aiming to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity

Towards a Cross-Disciplinary Sound Design Methodology: A Focus on Semiotics and Linguistics

This thesis delves into the intricate world of sound design, focusing on the development of a methodology that encompasses various disciplines. It explores the role of sound design in conveying messages, serving as an interface between users and devices. The study also investigates the parallels between semiotics and linguistics and sound design, interpreting how sounds can act as signs that represent other entities, based on established social conventions and how we can use linguistics as a model to create non-speech sounds that just like language systematically convey meaning to the user. Through this comprehensive analysis, the work aims to contribute to the field by proposing a cross-disciplinary methodology for sound design, thereby enhancing the auditory experience in diverse contexts

This piece analyses how anti-corruption organisms in Central America advance US dominance in the region. These institutions seem to have spearheaded American interests in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador in a context of growing dispute with China. We suggest Western countries should focus on domestic measures to fight corruption abroad and international organisms should respect the sovereignty of target states.

AbstractThe purpose of this research was to identify the workplace adaptations of workers with disabilities in the construction industry in Pernambuco, Brazil. The research was conducted in two stages. The first phase aimed to identify companies that have workers with disabilities in their building construction sites and which jobs they perform. In the second phase, phone call was made by the researchers to the construction sites to verify that workers with disabilities were working in the sites, explain the purpose of the research and request company authorization to participate in the study. After match the best day to visit, the researches visited the construction sites to interview each of the workers with disabilities and their supervisors that answered a socio-demographic questionnaire. The results of the research allowed to identify that the majority of workers with disabilities were male, had physical disabilities, not using prostheses or ortheses. Most deficiencies were caused by diseases, while more than half of individuals with disabilities did not complete high school. The most prevalent job was the laborer, while about half of the cases, companies made adjustments in the workplace, of which all were of organizational type, and no financial investment for labor inclusion was necessary

Laser machining of zirconia green compacts to produce cavities and blocks: parametric optimization and patterning

Zirconia is a very popular material among implants and prosthesis, due to its antibacterial activity, corrosion resistance and hardness properties. For these purposes, zirconia is to be sintered beforehand to obtain good dimensional and geometrical accuracy and then machined. However, the machining of sintered zirconia has always been a troublesome proposition, attributable to its extreme hardness. The excellent properties of zirconia were applied in this study to the cutlery design. Nowadays, cutlery/flatware designs are constantly changing. However, for manufacturing, the traditional molding process remains widely popular, despite having huge limitations regarding aesthetic and design flexibility. In the present study, we explore a new horizon of cutlery design by patterning using laser surface modification. Blocks were laser machined from zirconia green compacts, which solved the machining problems associated with sintered zirconia, and then inserted into stainless-steel cutlery grooves to produce a novel aesthetical cutlery design. This study addresses the parametric optimization of laser parameters (power, scanning speed and number of passages) to produce cavities in zirconia green compacts. Material removal, depth of cut, geometry and surface roughness were taken as output variables. For the analyses, a full factorial design of experiments was adopted. Moreover, this study provides the optimum parameters for the laser machining of zirconia green compacts to produce blocks with accurate dimensions and geometries. After laser machining the zirconia blocks, sintering was performed to achieve the desired dimensions.publishe
