    O(1/N_f) Corrections to the Thirring Model in 2<d<4

    The Thirring model, that is, a relativistic field theory of fermions with a contact interaction between vector currents, is studied for dimensionalities 2<d<4 using the 1/N_f expansion, where N_f is the number of fermion species. The model is found to have no ultraviolet divergences at leading order provided a regularization respecting current conservation is used. Explicit O(1/N_f) corrections are computed, and the model shown to be renormalizable at this order in the massless limit; renormalizability appears to hold to all orders due to a special case of Weinberg's theorem. This implies there is a universal amplitude for four particle scattering in the asymptotic regime.     'HeART of Stroke (HoS)', a community-based Arts for Health group intervention to support self-confidence and psychological well-being following a stroke: protocol for a randomised controlled feasibility study

    Introduction Over 152 000 people in the UK have strokes annually and a third experience residual disability. Low mood also affects a third of stroke survivors; yet psychological support is poor. While Arts for Health interventions have been shown to improve well-being in people with mild-to-moderate depression post-stroke, their role in helping people regain sense of self, well-being and confidence has yet to be evaluated. The main aim of this study is to explore the feasibility of conducting a pragmatic multicentre randomised controlled trial to assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of an Arts for Health group intervention (‘HeART of Stroke’ (HoS)) for stroke survivors. HoS is a 10-session artist-facilitated group intervention held in the community over 14 weeks. It offers a non-judgemental, supportive environment for people to explore sense of self, potentially enhancing well-being and confidence. Methods and analysis Sixty-four people, up to 2 years post-stroke, recruited via secondary care research staff or community stroke/rehabilitation teams in two UK centres will be randomised to either HoS plus usual care or usual care only. Self-reported outcomes, measured at baseline and approximately 5 months postrandomisation, will include stroke-related, well-being, mood, self-esteem, quality of life and process measures. Analyses will focus on estimating key feasibility parameters (eg, rates of recruitment, retention, intervention attendance). We will develop outcome and resource use data collection methods to inform an effectiveness and cost-effectiveness analysis in the future trial. Interviews, with a sample of participants, will explore the acceptability of the intervention and study processes, as well as experiences of the HoS group. Ethics and dissemination National Health Service (NHS), Research and Development and University ethical approvals have been obtained. Two peer-reviewed journal publications are planned plus one service user led publication.     A study of the gauge invariant, nonlocal mass operator Tr∫d4xFμν(D2)−1FμνTr \int d^4x F_{\mu\nu}(D^2)^{-1} F_{\mu\nu} in Yang-Mills theories

    The nonlocal mass operator Tr∫d4xFμν(D2)−1FμνTr \int d^4x F_{\mu\nu} (D^2)^{-1} F_{\mu\nu} is considered in Yang-Mills theories in Euclidean space-time. It is shown that the operator Tr∫d4xFμν(D2)−1FμνTr \int d^4x F_{\mu\nu} (D^2)^{-1} F_{\mu\nu} can be cast in local form through the introduction of a set of additional fields. A local and polynomial action is thus identified. Its multiplicative renormalizability is proven by means of the algebraic renormalization in the class of linear covariant gauges. The anomalous dimensions of the fields and of the mass operator are computed at one loop order. A few remarks on the possible role of this operator for the issue of the gauge invariance of the dimension two condensates are outlined.Comment: 34 page

    RI'/SMOM scheme amplitudes for quark currents at two loops

    We determine the two loop corrections to the Green's function of a quark current inserted in a quark 2-point function at the symmetric subtraction point. The amplitudes for the scalar, vector and tensor currents are presented in both the MSbar and RI'/SMOM renormalization schemes. The RI'/SMOM scheme two loop renormalization for the scalar and tensor cases agree with previous work. The vector current renormalization requires special treatment as it must be consistent with the Slavnov-Taylor identity which we demonstrate. We also discuss the possibility of an alternative definition of the RI'/SMOM scheme in the case of the tensor current.Comment: 36 latex pages, 1 figure, 21 tables, anc directory contains txt file with data in table

    Singlet vs Nonsinglet Perturbative Renormalization factors of Staggered Fermion Bilinears

    In this paper we present the perturbative computation of the difference between the renormalization factors of flavor singlet (∑fψˉfΓψf\sum_f\bar\psi_f\Gamma\psi_f, ff: flavor index) and nonsinglet (ψˉf1Γψf2,f1≠f2\bar\psi_{f_1} \Gamma \psi_{f_2}, f_1 \neq f_2) bilinear quark operators (where Γ=1, γ5, γμ, γ5 γμ, γ5 σμ ν\Gamma = \mathbb{1},\,\gamma_5,\,\gamma_{\mu},\,\gamma_5\,\gamma_{\mu},\, \gamma_5\,\sigma_{\mu\,\nu}) on the lattice. The computation is performed to two loops and to lowest order in the lattice spacing, using Symanzik improved gluons and staggered fermions with twice stout-smeared links. The stout smearing procedure is also applied to the definition of bilinear operators. A significant part of this work is the development of a method for treating some new peculiar divergent integrals stemming from the staggered formalism. Our results can be combined with precise simulation results for the renormalization factors of the nonsinglet operators, in order to obtain an estimate of the renormalization factors for the singlet operators.
