Structure of co-expression networks of Bifidobacterium species in response to human milk oligosaccharides
Biological systems respond to environmental perturbations and a large diversity of compounds through gene interactions, and these genetic factors comprise complex networks. Experimental information from transcriptomic studies has allowed the identification of gene networks that contribute to our understanding of microbial adaptations. In this study, we analyzed the gene co-expression networks of three Bifidobacterium species in response to different types of human milk oligosaccharides (HMO) using weighted gene co-expression analysis (WGCNA). RNA-seq data obtained from Geo Datasets were obtained for Bifidobacterium longum subsp. Infantis, Bifidobacterium bifidum and Bifidobacterium longum subsp. Longum. Between 10 and 20 co-expressing modules were obtained for each dataset. HMO-associated genes appeared in the modules with more genes for B. infantis and B. bifidum, in contrast with B. longum. Hub genes were identified in each module, and in general they participated in conserved essential processes. Certain modules were differentially enriched with LacI-like transcription factors, and others with certain metabolic pathways such as the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. The three Bifidobacterium transcriptomes showed distinct regulation patterns for HMO utilization. HMO-associated genes in B. infantis co-expressed in two modules according to their participation in galactose or N-Acetylglucosamine utilization. Instead, B. bifidum showed a less structured co-expression of genes participating in HMO utilization. Finally, this category of genes in B. longum clustered in a small module, indicating a lack of co-expression with main cell processes and suggesting a recent acquisition. This study highlights distinct co-expression architectures in these bifidobacterial genomes during HMO consumption, and contributes to understanding gene regulation and co-expression in these species of the gut microbiome
Aim: Identify in literature the application of models and theories of nursing in high complexity units. Methodology: search in scientiic literature database: Web of Science, Scopus, CINAHL complete, Pubmed and Scielo, through “theories of nursing”, “critical care” in English and “teorías de enfermería”, “cuidado crítico” Spanish descriptors. 286 articles were selected initially, excluding 150 for not fulilling the selection criteria. 66 abstracts were read and 11 articles were inally selected, where the analysis was focused on the study of the application of models and theories. Results: it was revealed that there are studies where models and theories are applied in some care instances, however, there are very few instances that refer to their use in critical care units, just the theories of the Basic Human Needs of Horta, the model of Roy's Adaptation and Meleis's theory of transitions were applied in critical contexts. Conclusion: the review carried out allows to show the eforts for the clinical and research use of models and theories in highly complex units. However, there is also a large gap between clinical practice and application of nursing models and theories in Chile. Soil Bacterial Communities From the Chilean Andean Highlands: Taxonomic Composition and Culturability
The Atacama Desert is a highly complex, extreme ecosystem which harbors microorganisms remarkable for their biotechnological potential. Here, a soil bacterial prospection was carried out in the high Altiplano region of the Atacama Desert (>3,800 m above sea level; m a.s.l.), where direct anthropogenic interference is minimal. We studied: (1) soil bacterial community composition using high-throughput sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene and (2) bacterial culturability, by using a soil extract medium (SEM) under a factorial design of three factors: temperature (15 and 30°C), nutrient content (high and low nutrient disposal) and oxygen availability (presence and absence). A total of 4,775 OTUs were identified and a total of 101 isolates were selected for 16S rRNA sequencing, 82 of them corresponded to unique or non-redundant sequences. To expand our view of the Altiplano landscape and to obtain a better representation of its microbiome, we complemented our Operational Taxonomic Units (OTUs) and isolate collection with data from other previous data from our group and obtained a merged set of OTUs and isolates that we used to perform our study. Taxonomic comparisons between culturable microbiota and metabarcoding data showed an overrepresentation of the phylum Firmicutes (44% of isolates vs. 2% of OTUs) and an underrepresentation of Proteobacteria (8% of isolates vs. 36% of OTUs). Within the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) results, 33% of the OTUs were unknown up to genus, revealing an important proportion of putative new species in this environment. Biochemical characterization and analysis extracted from the literature indicated that an important number of our isolates had biotechnological potential. Also, by comparing our results with similar studies on other deserts, the Altiplano highland was most similar to a cold arid desert. In summary, our study contributes to expand the knowledge of soil bacterial communities in the Atacama Desert and complements the pipeline to isolate selective bacteria that could represent new potential biotechnological resources
Palabras claves: profesores, disfonía, análisis perceptual, parámetros fonético acústico, exploración laríngea./ABSTRACT: There are various investigations about vocal alterations on teachers. Mainly, these surveys are directed to the teaching population in general, so, the evidence about voice conditions on subjects just starting working in this area is scarse. The present survey, of the descriptive non-experimental type, has the objective of studying the vocal characteristics of 25 teachers in the Talca district, with a working experience equal to or less than three years. Their demographic and clinical background was considered; a perceptual voice analysis was performed; the
phonetic-acoustic indexes related with voice quality were studied, as are fundamental frequencies, Jitter, Shimmer, Noise/Harmonic relation and voicesoftness index; and, finally, an structural and functional larinx exploration was performed using nasofibroscopy. In the results gotten, it's noticed in the demographic and clinical findings, the physicial and organizational deficiencies in the teaching institutions; in the acoustic analysis, the prevalence of dysphonia, voice fatigue, stress and strain; phonetic-acoustic parameters, mostly altered; and, finally, in the structural and functional findings the prevalence of laryngeal hiperfunction, lengthwise hiatus and reflux Keywords: teachers, dysphonia, perceptual voice analysis, phonetic-acoustic

// ABSTRACT: Background: The world is advancing rapidly and more and more health
technologies are addressing a problem to improve it, however there are no clear
methods to validate technological developments in this discipline. It is essential to
use a technological maturity model through the Technology Readiness level to
facilitate correct development, meeting the expectations of developers and end
users; This is why usability surveys must be applied simultaneously to measure
that the final product is comfortable and satisfies the public objective. General
objective: Analyze the function and usability of a telemonitoring device in stage 4 of
the Technological Preparation Level to optimize its development as a technological
innovation device in the Maule region in 2022. Methods: 9 adult volunteers from 23
to 44 years old, who underwent 3 functional tests, before, during and post tests,
the behavior of their vital signs (heart rate, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate) was
measured with the Smart Mesck technological device and with conventional
methods. At the end of the measurements, the SUS usability scale is applied.
Results: Of the variables with Smart Mesck, the one that most resembled the data
obtained with the conventional methods measured was respiratory rate, despite the
fact that this was the most difficult to interpret due to the way in which its data is
expressed. it was evidenced that in the heart rate variables there was a greater
difference in data between the 3 methods used to compare. The SUS scale score
was 74.72, this means that in terms of usability, Smart Mesck is acceptable.
Conclusion: It was verified that Smart Mesck is usable and works by comparing it
with the other measurement methods, however there are still functions to be improved in aspects of battery, calibration and comfort of the device, to raise its level of technological maturity
Parte I: Deglución
At the time of writing this article, more than a million people have been affected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Chile, displaying different degrees of COVID-19 disease. Severe infections generate a condition that requires invasive ventilatory support and treatment in intensive care units, which, when extended in time, makes necessary conducting a tracheostomy. Despite its benefits for the recovery of patients with respiratory difficulties, it is linked to swallowing disorders that add to the problems generated by COVID-19. This represents a challenge for speech pathologists, who are potentially exposed to the virus because they work on structures of the aerodigestive tract and becuase they conduct procedures that may be aerosol-generating. The aim of this article is to provide guidance and clinical tools for swallowing-intervention in people with tracheostomies and COVID-19. Thees tools spring from a pragmatic analysis of the currently available evidence , interpreted based on our experience of caring more than 561 infected patients. We hope to contribute to the rehabilitation of swallowing of patients with COVID-19 and a tracheostomy. The characteristics of swallowing in this population, its treatment, considerations for the use of specific techniques, and guidelines for improving the quality of life through the maintenance and/or recovery of swallowing functionality are discussed, focused caring and protecting hospitalized patients and the health team.
