In the present work we draw a small route with regard to the (about) manifestations or expressions of atheism and materialism, popular and cultured (enlightened), by the end of XVIII century and the two following decades of the XIX century, in deeph, as from the inquisitorial archives of the Court of Santiago de Compostela or Galicia. Using a mixed methodology (conceptual history, cultural anthropology, history of ideologies, the history of philosophy, etc.) and based on nineteenth century documentary sources taken from the Arquivo Histórico da Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (little known) or form the Archivo Histórico Nacional de Madrid (inedited), in anarchaeological way, we try to reconstruct 25 eventful years of the Galician culture, focusing particularly on the history of philosophical thought.

    Get PDF
This article describes the first and only man-made cave in the Rio Grande ravine. Although no associated materials have been found, its morphology, which includes both a circular main chamber and a secondary chamber, allows its inclusion in the Southern Peninsular funerary structure repertoire. These structures are intimately linked to the Megalith Period

The long bar as seen by the VVV Survey: II. Star counts

    Get PDF
Context: There is still some debate about the presence and the morphological properties of the long bar in the inner Galaxy. Aims: We investigate the morphological properties of the long Galactic bar using the VVV survey extending star counts at least 3 mag deeper than 2MASS. Our study covers the relatively unexplored negative longitudes of the Galactic bar. We obtain a detailed description of the spatial distribution of star counts towards the long Galactic bar as well as to measure its parameters. Methods: We performed star counts towards -20<l<0 deg., |b|< 2 deg. using VVV, 2MASS, and GLIMPSE data. We applied an average interstellar extinction correction. We also adjusted latitudinal profiles to obtain the centroid variation and bar thickness. Results: We probe the structure of long Galactic bar, as well as its far edge at l=-14 deg. The differences between counts with and without extinction correction allow us to produce a crude extinction map showing regions with high extinction, mainly beyond the end of long Galactic bar. The latitudinal profiles show evidence of the centroid vertical variation with Galactic longitude reaching a minimum at l=-13.8 deg. The bar has an inclination angle 43+/-5 deg with respect to the line Sun-Galactic center. In addition, we have determined the bar parameters, such as thickness, length, and stellar distribution.Comment: Accepted for publication at Astronomy \& Astrophysics (17 pages, 17 figures). Second version: 1- Only minor changes on the abstract of the manuscript. 2- Abstract of arXiv.org modified to be in accordingly to Astronomy & Astrophysics abstract structur

Flexible aromatic disulfide monomers for high-performance self-healable linear and cross-linked poly(urethane-urea) coatings

    Get PDF
Implementation of the self-healing concept in coatings is challenging because they have to combine mechanical strength and chain mobility. This challenge is addressed in this work by studying the effect of the polymer microstructure on the mechanical properties and self-healing ability of waterborne poly(urethane-urea) coatings containing aromatic disulfide dynamic bonds. The structural modifications studied are the concentration and flexibility of the aromatic disulfide units and the effect of cross-linking. The effects and limits of these structural changes on the mechanical properties of the polymers and their healability were determined via a combination of DMA measurements, tensile tests, and rheological and scratch closure experiments. It was found that the flexibility of the disulfide unit was key to develop more efficient self-healing materials which offer the necessary molecular mobility for self-healing while simultaneously maintaining a level of mechanical strength that are essential for coating applications. The European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme is accredited for the financial support through Project TRACKWAY-ITN 642514 under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement. e-Humanities: An Uncertain Dialogue Among Nussbaum, Camps and Braidotti

    Get PDF
A dialogue between three contemporary philosophers is fictionalized on the crisis of the Humanities and the birth of a new epistemological paradigm: Martha Nussbaum from an American liberal position, Victoria Camps from an European social democratic position and Rosi Braidotti from a global post-Humanism perspective. It serves as introduction to the text included in this monograph: “Cuando las humanidades se hacen digitales: filosofía y algoritmo (When the Humanities become Digital: Philosophy and Algorithm)” by Mª de Lourdes Pérez González

Este artículo trata de examinarlas raíces medievales del pensamiento de Gilles Deleuze, uno de los padres de la posmodernidad en filosofía; concretamente sus débitos con Juan Duns Escoto. Nos centramos en siete categorías filosóficas: univocidad del ser, distinción formal, potencia, haecceitas, materia, coexistencia de formas, modo intrínseco e intensidadThis article traces the medieval roots of the thought of Gilles Deleuze, one of the founders of postmodern philosophy, specifically, his debts to John Duns Scotus. It focuses on seven philo-sophical categories: univocity of being, formal distinction, potency, haecceitas, matter, coexist-ence of forms and modus intrinsicus or intensity

From two works, Hexameron of Ambrose of Milan and De natura rerum of Isidore of Seville, we analyze two issues: 1st) the presence in such works of the Hellenistic philosophies, especially skepticism and epicureanism; 2nd) the teleological conception of nature in both of them
