In this research, we studied and approached how to work the competences in the Pedagogical Theatre with people with Down syndrome. Moreover, we described the skills acquired by one of the participants in the program. In order to achieve these objectives previously, a bibliographical study was carried out in relation to the subject studied. We were also able to participate during three months in the Pedagogical Theatre. Likewise, information was collected using a qualitative methodology through interviews, observation recorded in a diary and a registration sheet. Videos and a documentary analysis of the intervention program and the Psycho-pedagogical Report of the observed participant were used. Finally, we carried out a triangulation of the results obtained using the evaluations of different agents, such as therapists, family and support staff and of course, the participant in the case study: Julieta.

Mathematical modelling and numerical simulation of the heat transfer in a trough of a blast furnace

In this article, we address the numerical simulation of the cross section of a blast furnace (BF) trough to ensure its durability based on the location of the critical isotherms, so the objective is to know the heat transfer from the trough walls in contact with the hot liquids flowing inside (hot metal and slag) to the lining of the trough, which is in contact with air. With this aim, we propose a 2D heat transfer mathematical model which is solved using a finite element method (FEM). The proposed model is based on energy balance equation, and Fourier's law to relate the heat flux and the temperature gradients are assumed. The convective and radiative heat transfers as well as Dirichlet temperatures are included as boundary conditions, and the radiation view factor concept is considered, introducing an additional nonlinearity in the model. This factor plays a key role in the radiation heat transfer between the slag surface and the wall inside the trough in contact with air, which receives the radiation of the slag. The proposed 2D heat transfer model is applied in two sections: at the middle of the trough and downstream. The numerical simulations are performed using a FEM, and their numerical results are compared with the experimental data from a measurements campaign in a BF. The results demonstrate that the model can reproduce quite accurately the temperature distribution in BF troughs. The authors wish to thank ArcelorMittal-Spain for supporting with experimental data this work development. Gtdap-1 and the role of autophagy during planarian regeneration and starvation

Planarians have been established as an ideal model organism for stem cell research and regeneration. Planarian regeneration and homeostasis require an exquisite balancing act between cell death and cell proliferation as new tissues are made (epimorphosis) and existing tissues remodeled (morphallaxis). Some of the genes and mechanisms that control cell proliferation and pattern formation are known. However, studies about cell death during remodeling are few and far between. We have studied the gene Gtdap-1, the planarian ortholog of human death-associated protein-1 or DAP-1. DAP-1 together with DAP-kinase has been identified as a positive mediator of programmed cell death induced by gamma-interferon in HeLa cells. We have found that the gene functions at the interface between autophagy and cell death in the remodeling of the organism that occurs during regeneration and starvation in sexual and asexual races of planarians. Our data suggest that autophagy of existing cells may be essential to fuel the continued proliferation and differentiation of stem cells by providing the necessary energy and building blocks to neoblasts

Copper retention kinetics in acid soils

Retention and release kinetics of Cu on four acid Typic haplumbrepts developed on two different types of parent rock material (granite and amphibolite) were studied with a stirred-flow chamber (SFC) method. The granitic soils were lower in organic material and lower in Fe and Al oxides than the soils formed in amphibolite. The kinetic parameters were assessed in four consecutive Cu retention–release cycles by alternately applying pulses of solutions with and without Cu. Granite soils showed lower total Cu retention (7–12 mmol kg−1) than amphibolite soils (16–21 mmol kg−1) after one single pulse application of 0.0787 mmol Cu L−1 at pH 5.5, which may be due to differences in their organic and oxides compositions. The amount of Cu retained diminished to 40 to 25% in the third retention cycle relative to the first, suggesting that the soils’ Cu retention depends on the previous metal loading. Conversely, the released Cu was approximately 20% of that retained in the first cycle, but the amounts released were similar for all cycles and all soils. The results obtained were fitted using a first-order equation for both retention and release of Cu. In the first cycle, first order rate coefficients of retention ranged from 0.084 to 0.56 min−1, and increased by about a factor of two in the next cycle. Release rate coefficients were more than 10 times lower than those of retention, and less dependent on the previous metal loading. The process of retention and release of Cu was found to be hysteretic, which suggest that the desorption mechanism or path is not an exact opposite of the adsorption mechanism or path.Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia | Ref. Regeneration in starved planarians depends on TRiC/CCT subunits modulating the unfolded protein response

Planarians are able to stand long periods of starvation by maintaining adult stem cell pools and regenerative capacity. The molecular pathways that are needed for the maintenance of regeneration during starvation are not known. Here, we show that down‐regulation of chaperonin TRiC/CCT subunits abrogates the regeneration capacity of planarians during starvation, but TRiC/CCT subunits are dispensable for regeneration in fed planarians. Under starvation, they are required to maintain mitotic fidelity and for blastema formation. We show that TRiC subunits modulate the unfolded protein response (UPR) and are required to maintain ATP levels in starved planarians. Regenerative defects in starved CCT‐depleted planarians can be rescued by either chemical induction of mild endoplasmic reticulum stress, which leads to induction of the UPR, or by the supplementation of fatty acids. Together, these results indicate that CCT‐dependent UPR induction promotes regeneration of planarians under food restriction

Economía circular como base de la sustentabilidad empresarial

The world is on the verge of collapse, both in terms of the depletion of raw materials and the increase in pollution caused by the waste produced by humanity. The current linear economy model makes it possible that in the medium or short term, the collapse of the economy, the environment, and, therefore, of society will occur, bringing the possible end of humanity as a logical consequence. Economic relations based on a Circular Economy model of use and reuse of products, eliminating as much waste as possible, would avoid the fate predicted by the old economic model. To try to analyze this, we conducted a bibliographic review of scientific articles, books, and mainstream journals that deal with the subject exemplifying the steps being taken in implementing circular economies applied to different branches of the productive process. The present work is, therefore, the realization of an updated bibliographic search of articles and specialized pieces that bring the topic of circular economy closer to its manifestation as a basis for business sustainability and, therefore, for the economies of countries, especially in the area of underdeveloped nations according to the availability of material resources and their sustained depletion.
