The success factors for SMEs: Empirical evidence

This paper empirically analyzes the success factors for SMEs. Particularly, the paper intends to analyze if firm age, human resource costs, debt, venture capital funding, investment in innovation and productivity are success factors for SMEs. The effects were tested using static and dynamic panel data, on a data set of 200 Portuguese SMEs. The use of dynamic panel data is important in order to control for: endogeneity; time-invariant characteristics; possible collinearity between independent variables; effects from possible omission of independent variables; elimination of non-observable individual effects; and, the correct estimation of the relationship between the dependent variable in the previous and current periods. Our results reveal a positive impact on success of: human resource costs; investments in innovation; productivity; and, venture capital funding. We also confirm the negative impact of firm age and debt. Also, the results show evidence of persistence in success for the case of one of the success proxies used

Características cromáticas das cerâmicas utilizadas em facetas

Dissertação para obtenção do grau de Mestre no Instituto Universitário Egas MonizNa sociedade atual, a estética é um valor muito procurado que se expandiu em todas as áreas, inclusive na medicina dentária. Como tal, os médicos dentistas têm um papel muito importante na resolução deste desafio, uma vez que possuem variadas opções de tratamento para melhorar a estética dentária. Deste modo surgem na medicina dentária novos materiais e técnicas que visam reproduzir fielmente os dentes naturais, tanto a nível estético como funcional. Neste contexto aparecem as facetas cerâmicas, uma alternativa segura, previsível, estética e conservadora para reabilitações estéticas anteriores. A cerâmicas possuem boas propriedades óticas, como a translucidez, opacidade, opalescência e fluorescência, como acontece com o esmalte e dentina. Estas permitem restaurações em dentes com caraterísticas indesejáveis como cor, forma e posição, e oferecem longevidade, estabilidade e biocompatibilidade. Para obtermos estes resultados é necessário um conhecimento profundo do protocolo clínico de aplicação de cerâmicas e das propriedades e caraterísticas das mesmas. Uma vez cumpridos estes parâmetros, as restaurações cerâmicas tornam-se previsíveis e com elevada taxa de sucesso. Este estudo teve como principal objetivo realizar uma revisão narrativa sobre o estado de arte das caraterísticas cromáticas dos diferentes sistemas cerâmicos utilizados em facetas como a opalescência, translucidez e fluorescência, e também avaliar os diferentes sistemas cerâmicos existentes, as suas indicações, contraindicações, vantagens e desvantagens. A pesquisa foi realizada a partir das bases de dados PubMed/Medline, Scielo, B-On e em alguns livros de referência. Foram utilizados os termos: cerâmica, facetas, cor, fluorescência, translucidez e opalescência.In today's society, aesthetics is a much sought-after value that has expanded in all areas, including dentistry. As such, dentists have a very important role to play in solving this challenge, since they have several treatment options to improve dental aesthetics. In this way, new materials and techniques that aim to faithfully reproduce natural teeth, both aesthetically and functionally, emerge in dentistry. In this context, ceramic veneers appear, a safe, predictable, aesthetic and conservative alternative to previous aesthetic restorations. Ceramics have good optical properties, such as translucency, opacity, opalescence and fluorescence, as is the case with enamel and dentin. These allow restorations on teeth with undesirable characteristics such as color, shape and position, and offer longevity, stability and biocompatibility. To obtain these results it is necessary to have an in-depth knowledge of the clinical protocol for the application of ceramics and their properties and characteristics. Once these parameters are met, ceramic restorations become predictable and have a high success rate. The main objective of this study was to conduct a narrative review on the state of the art of the chromatic characteristics of the different ceramic systems used in veneers such as opalescence, translucency and fluorescence, and also to evaluate the different existing ceramic systems, their indications, contraindications, advantages and disadvantages. Smartphone como gateway móvel para a Internet das Coisas em ambientes sujeitos a atrasos e a interrupções

A Internet das Coisas (IdC) possui algumas limitações em termos de conectividade, nomeadamente em meios que possuam dificuldades de acesso à rede de Internet, como os que estão sujeitos a atrasos e a interrupções. Neste contexto, o smartphone é usado como elemento estrutural ao nível da comunicação na IdC, sendo que vários autores propõem a sua utilização como gateway e como elemento central de Redes Tolerantes aos Atrasos e às Interrupções. O problema identificado pode ser dividido em três desafios: funcionamento do smartphone como gateway para mediar a passagem dos dados; armazenamento local dos dados, em casos de inexistência de conectividade; e sincronização dos dados para coincidirem com os da Cloud. Cada desafio corresponde a um requisito: armazenamento de dados na Cloud; ligação entre a camada sensorial e a Cloud; e utilização de dispositivos de prototipagem para a IdC. Para validar a abordagem, foi desenvolvido um protótipo cuja implementação se baseia na recolha local e no envio dos dados para a Cloud, aquando da existência de ligação à Internet, funcionando o smartphone como gateway para IdC. O protótipo assenta nas temáticas das Plataformas de Cloud para a IdC, dos Middlewares Orientados a Mensagens e dos Dispositivos para a IdC

Das Thema Inklusion hat in den letzten Jahren sehr an Dynamik gewonnen, nicht nur in der akademischen Welt, sondern auch in der Öffentlichkeit. Die Teilhabe aller Kinder an einer Gesamtschule ist jedoch noch keine Realität und wenn wir uns auf Schülerinnen und Schüler mit Autismus-Spektrum-Störungen konzentrieren, erkennen wir, dass es noch einen langen Weg zur Inklusion gibt. Ein Hindernis ergibt sich aus der Ge-schichte der Sonderschule in Deutschland (Dos Santos Gomes, 2022). Seit Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts wurde in Deutschland eine hohe Homogenität der Lerngruppen als essenziell für Lernprozesse angesehen. Schülerinnen und Schüler werden von Beginn ihrer Schulzeit an mit biologischen, kognitiven oder sozialen Standards gemessen, um festzustellen, ob sie von den durchschnittlich zu erwartenden Fähigkeiten, Leistungen oder Verhaltensweisen abweichen. Wenn wir eine wirkliche Inklusion von Schülerinnen und Schülern umsetzen wollen, brauchen wir einen Perspektivenwechsel. Diese Arbeit soll dazu beitragen, diese neue Perspektive zu fördern

Pädagogik – Krankheit – Inklusion

Die Ergebnisse der Langzeit-Kindergesundheitsstudie (KiGGS) des Robert-Koch-Instituts (RKI), zeigen, dass in etwa 11% der Mädchen und 16% der Jungen an chronischen Gesundheitsstörungen leiden, die länger als ein Jahr andauern (vgl. Robert-Koch-Institut, 2017, S. 1ff). Danke moderner Therapien haben wir weltweit einen erheblichen Anstieg an chronisch kranken Kindern und Jugendlichen. Im Deutschland, sind diese Kinder und Jugendliche verpflichte in der Schule zu gehen aber: sind die Lehrkräfte darauf vorbereitet mit dieser Schülerschaft zu arbeiten? Im Rahmen des Seminars „Pädagogik – Krankheit – Inklusion“ wurde diese Frage stark diskutierte, hier haben wir die Ergebnisse von diese Diskussion

Sonderpädagogik und Exklusion

Freire (2005, S.7) erklärt: In Gesellschaften, deren strukturelle Dynamik zur Beherrschung des Bewusstseins führt, „ist die herrschende Pädagogik die Pädagogik der herrschenden Klassen“. Die Methoden der Unterdrücker können nicht der Befreiung der Unterdrückten dienen. Freire betont in seinem gesamten Werk die Ethik unter den Fachleuten des Bildungswesens und reflektiert über die Naivität, an die von denselben "neoliberalen Unterdrückern" verkündete Politik der Integration zu glauben. Dieser Zynismus drückt sich in der proklamierten inklusiven Bildung aus, deren Praxis die Unmöglichkeit ihrer effektiven Umsetzung zeigt. Dieselben Institutionen, die den Diskurs idealisiert haben, sind auch die Urheber einer Bildungspolitik, die die Schulen einer externen Kontrolle unterwerfen, was zu einem konsequenten Verlust ihrer Autonomie führt, wodurch ein starres und unflexibles Bildungssystem entsteht, in dem die Inklusion nur zu einer neuen Form der Ausgrenzung von Schüler*innen mit sonderpädagogischem Förderbedarf führt. Welche Aufgabe hat oder welche Rolle spielt die Universität bzw. Sonderpädagogik in dieser Spaltung unseres Schulsystems? Welche Ergebnisse zeigen die sondergeförderten Schüler*innen in den Letzen Jahren? Was können wir besser machen, um eine wirkliche Inklusion zu erreichen? Für diese Diskussion ist es wichtig, die (politischen) Bedingungen und integrativen Bildungsstrategien unserer Bildungssysteme eingehend kritisch zu analysieren

Symbolic Computation of Variational Symmetries in Optimal Control

We use a computer algebra system to compute, in an efficient way, optimal control variational symmetries up to a gauge term. The symmetries are then used to obtain families of Noether's first integrals, possibly in the presence of nonconservative external forces.
