Past Industrial Traces of the Jasień River in the Tourism Space of Łódź
In the paper the characteristics of one of the most valuable rivers in Łódź, the Jasień, are described. The Jasień is a unique example of a river once working for industry but now existing as untapped tourism potential despite its negative image and even being partly forgotten. The description of the most valuable historical hydro-technical work along the river’s course is given with some useful historical information. In the summary, a suggestion of how the river bank might become a trigger for studying Łódź’s history, as its industrial development was so strongly related to the river network
Łódź region and its northern vicinity under Vistulian Glaciation conditions
An overview of palaeogeographical findings of the last glacial period (MIS 5d–MIS 2) has been given for the Łódź region. Processes which influenced the area outside of ice-sheet margin are presented with respect to space and time, as predominantly driven by different types of periglacial environment. Attention was paid to leading accumulative and erosional processes and resulting landforms, still well-pronounced in the landscape. Recently, the picture of the area discussed, during the Vistulian was completed and identified was the mechanism of the LGM ice-sheet advance onto the Płock lobe. Borderline location of the Łódź region offers comprehensive research on the time and processes and determines its significance on the geomorphological map of Poland
Glacial-Interglacial Cycles In Central Poland As Reflected In The Łódź University Geomorphological Scientific Achievements
Published in: Origin of Relief of Central Poland and Its Anthropogenic Transformation in Łódź University Geographical Research, edited by. E.Kobojek, T.MarszałResults of a few decades of investigations on relief evolution of Central Poland in successive morphogenetic cycles were summed up in the monograph by K. Turkowska (2006) and visualised in the Geomorphological map of the Łódź region at a scale of 1:226 000 published in 2012. Recently, the aforementioned problems were widely discussed during the conference “Czynniki różnicowania rzeźby Niżu Polskiego” (Differentiation factors of the Polish Lowland relief) held in Uniejów in June 2012. Some current studies were presented in the anniversary issue of Acta Geographica Lodziensia (no. 100), which is a platform for the exchange of scientific ideas and opinions for 60 years
Refugees’ Refrains in the Poetry by Nelly Sachs
In the article I have been studying what premises constitute in the work of this German-speaking Nobel Prize winner and how the author brings the wounded world to the poem. I am aiming at interpreting her works in the relation to the refugees theme. I read her neurotic poetry also in the context of the contemporary nomadological discourse and I perceive it as a signpost to the language of solidarity. In the works of the Nobel Prize winner from 1966 one can see a preview of the style of the poems written by contemporary refuges (Breyten Breytenbach or Ashur Etwebi), and the artistic community of people deprived of their homes. I close the article with the conclusion related to the use of poetry in education for peace

Ślady industrialnej przeszłości Jasienia w przestrzeni turystycznej Łodzi
W artykule przedstawiono charakterystykę jednego z najważniejszych łódzkich cieków – Jasienia. Przede wszystkim
istniejący mimo negatywnego jej wizerunku, a nawet częściowego zapomnienia.
ZAKAŻENIA W POLSKICH PEDIATRYCZNYCH OŚRODKACH HEMATOLOGII, ONKOLOGII I PRZESZCZEPIANIA KOMÓREK KRWIOTWÓRCZYCH W LATACH 2012-2013: EPIDEMIOLOGIA
B a c k g r o u n d . Infections are the main cause of morbidity and mortality in children with cancer or undergoing stem cell transplantation. O b j e c t i v e . The aim of this study was the analysis of incidence and outcome of bacterial, fungal and viral infections in Polish centers of pediatric hematology and oncology (PHO) and pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) units over a period of 24 months: iPhot-13 project. P a t i e n t s a n d m e t h o d s . During the analyzed period a total number of 1768 patients were newly-diagnosed for malignancy and 308 HSCTs were performed in participating centers. A total number of 2556 infections were reported. R e s u l t s . The incidence of patients with at least one episode of microbiologically documented infections with bacteria etiology was 26.3% among children undergoing chemo- and/or radiotherapy, and 34.1% among children undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The incidence of patients with at least one episode of fungal infection was 7.6% among children undergoing chemoand/ or radiotherapy, and 27.3% among children undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The incidence of IFI was prominently high in ALL (13.0% in PHO setting, and 31.3% in HSCT setting) and AML patients (43.2% in PHO, and 44.7% in HSCT setting). Viral infections reached 9.3% of patients in PHO setting, including a group of previously transplanted patients. The incidence of viral infections in HSCT setting reached 41.2%. This rate reached 51.3% children after allo-HSCT and 10.5% after auto-HSCT. C o n c l u s i o n s . Emerging data from Polish pediatric oncohematology and hematopoietic stem cell transplant centers indicate high incidence of infectious complications in pediatric population. Rate of bacterial infections is similar to those reported in international studies. The incidence of IFI in ALL and AML is much higher than it was recently anticipated. Viral infections occur in half of transplant patients and might severely compromise the benefit of transplant.W s t ę p . Wy n i k i . Częstość IFI była szczególnie wysoka u dzieci z ALL (PHO-13,0%, HSCT-31,3%) i AML (PHO-43,2%, HSCT-44,7%). Wn i o s k i . Infekcje wirusowe występują u połowy pacjentów HSCT i mogą niweczyć efekt wykonanych transplantacji
