    Comunicación, gestión cultural, ciudad: Del audiovisualismo y el documentalismo en Posadas. 16H369

    El proyecto continuará el análisis de cierta producción audiovisual de la ciudad de Posadas en tanto prácticas que suponen dimensiones y especiales dinámicas socioculturales, sociosemióticas, estéticas y comunicativas. Se trata de la continuación de indagaciones que ya han sido iniciadas en el Proyecto Comunicación, Arte, Ciudad: De la gestión cultural acreditado en la etapa anterior en la SIyP de la FHyCS de la UNaM, aunque esta vez focalizará la mirada en la producción audiovisualista y documentalista desarrollada en la ciudad de Posadas, a partir de la creación de la Universidad Nacional de Misiones. Esta delimitación, entonces, comprenderá el hacer de audiovisualistas y documentalistas y el de grupos institucionales de productoras oficiales y privadas que iniciaron y modularon –en Posadas- estas prácticas y productos desde la década del setenta (del siglo pasado) en adelante. Desde esas agrupaciones de “practicantes culturales” y sus registros, se insistirá en la delimitación y el análisis de los proyectos culturales que subyacen a ellas y que son sostenidos en la ciudad y que -sin dudas- son los que vehiculizan y materializan, en distintas temporalidades, producciones artÍsticas, educativas en Posadas y en Misiones. Todas nos hablan de la región y a la vez son habladas por ella en los usos, apropiaciones, y prácticas que posibilitan la gestión cultural (pública y privada de esas expresiones) y el “agenciamiento” para que surjan algunas y se obturen –transitoriamente- otras expresiones del campo

    Simple Microcontact Printing Technique to Obtain Cell Patterns by Lithography Using Grayscale, Photopolymer Flexographic Mold, and PDMS

    Microcontact printing using PDMS embossing tools and its variations have aroused the interest of a wide spectrum of research fields, hence the feasibility of defining micro and nanoscale patterns. In this work, we have proposed and demonstrated a novel lithography method based on grayscale patterns printed in a flexographic photopolymer mold and transferred to epoxy resin and a single PDMS stamp to obtain different microprint pattern structures. The geometry of the patterns can be modified by adjusting the layout and grayscale of the stamp patterns. The functionality of this contact printing methodology was validated by generating human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) patterns. These specific micropatterns can be very useful for achieving complex differentiation in cell lines such as hiPSC. Microfabrication through the new technique provides a promising alternative to conventional lithography for constructing complex aligned surfaces; these structures could be used as components of biological patterns or microfluidic devices.Fil: Gimenez, Rocio.     A graph theory approach to analyze birth defect associations

    Birth defects are prenatal morphological or functional anomalies. Associations among them are studied to identify their etiopathogenesis. The graph theory methods allow analyzing relationships among a complete set of anomalies. A graph consists of nodes which represent the entities (birth defects in the present work), and edges that join nodes indicating the relationships among them. The aim of the present study was to validate the graph theory methods to study birth defect associations. All birth defects monitoring records from the Estudio Colaborativo Latino Americano de Malformaciones Congénitas gathered between 1967 and 2017 were used. From around 5 million live and stillborn infants, 170,430 had one or more birth defects. Volume-adjusted Chi-Square was used to determine the association strength between two birth defects and to weight the graph edges. The complete birth defect graph showed a Log-Normal degree distribution and its characteristics differed from random, scale-free and small-world graphs. The graph comprised 118 nodes and 550 edges. Birth defects with the highest centrality values were nonspecific codes such as Other upper limb anomalies. After partition, the graph yielded 12 groups; most of them were recognizable and included conditions such as VATER and OEIS associations, and Patau syndrome. Our findings validate the graph theory methods to study birth defect associations.     Iniquidades sociais em mães adolescentes e sua relação com resultados perinatais adversos em populações sul-americanas

    El objetivo fue explicar las diferencias en la frecuencia de eventos perinatales adversos entre madres adolescentes con baja y alta escolaridad. La muestra poblacional se recogió en la base de datos del Estudio Colaborativo Latinoamericano de Malformaciones Congénitas (ECLAMC). Entre 2.443.747 nacimientos ocurridos en 93 hospitales, se reclutaron 66.755 recién nacidos vivos, sin defectos congénitos, durante el período 2000-2017. Las madres adolescentes se clasificaron según su escolaridad en: baja, media y alta. Se utilizó un modelo multivariado, que incluyó efectos reproductivos, acceso a servicios de salud, variables demográficas-socioeconómicas, así como de grupo étnico. El modelo de descomposición de Fairlie se aplicó para cuantificar la contribución de variables explicativas en las frecuencias de eventos perinatales adversos. De los 66.755 recién nacidos investigados, el 21,1% (n = 14.078) fue primigrávida de madres adolescentes. La distribución por escolaridad materna fue de 24,2%, 59,8% y 16% para baja, media y alta escolaridad, respectivamente. Las mayores frecuencias de eventos perinatales adversos se observaron en madres adolescentes con baja escolaridad. La variable “acceso a servicios de salud” explicó un 35%, 37% y 23% de las disparidades en el bajo peso al nacimiento, prematuridad y retardo de crecimiento intrauterino, respectivamente, entre madres adolescentes con baja y alta escolaridad. El bajo número de consultas prenatales fue el único factor de riesgo para los dos niveles de escolaridad y la variable que mejor explica las diferencias entre las frecuencias de eventos perinatales adversos. Desde el punto de vista de la salud pública, ellos representan una intervención de bajo coste, con posibilidad de que se incrementen mediante información adecuada para la población y medidas sistemáticas en los niveles de atención primaria.The aim was to explain differences in the rates of adverse perinatal events in teenage mothers with low and high schooling. The sample was collected from the Latin American Colaborative Study of Congenital Malformations (ECLAMC) database. From a total of 2,443,747 births in 93 hospitals, 66,755 live newborns without congenital malformations were recruited from 2000 to 2017. Teenage mothers were classified according to low, medium, and high schooling. A multivariate model was used that included reproductive history, access to health services, demographic and socioeconomic variables, and ethnic group. The Fairlie decomposition model was applied to quantify the contribution of explanatory variables to the adverse perinatal event rates. Of the 66,755 newborns analyzed, 21.1% (n = 14,078) were born to teenage mothers. Distribution of maternal schooling was 24.2%, 59.8%, and 16% for low, medium, and high schooling, respectively. The highest rates of adverse perinatal events were seen in teenage mothers with low schooling. The variable “access to health services” explained 35%, 37%, and 23% of the disparities in low birthweight, prematurity, and intrauterine growth restriction, respectively, among teenage mother with low and high schooling. Low number of prenatal visits was the only risk factor for the two levels of schooling and the variable that best explained the differences between the rates of adverse perinatal events. From the public health perspective, prenatal care represents a low-cost intervention with the possibility of increased implementation through adequate information for the population and systematic measures in primary care.O objetivo foi explicar as diferenças na frequência de eventos perinatais adversos entre mães adolescentes com baixa e alta escolaridade. As maiores frequências de eventos perinatais adversos foram observadas em mães adolescentes com baixa escolaridade. A variável “acesso a serviços de saúde”; explicou 35%, 37% e 23% das disparidades no baixo peso ao nascer, prematuridade e retardo de crescimento intrauterino, respectivamente, entre mães adolescentes com baixa e alta escolaridades.     Genetic landscape of 6089 inherited retinal dystrophies affected cases in Spain and their therapeutic and extended epidemiological implications

    Inherited retinal diseases (IRDs), defined by dysfunction or progressive loss of photoreceptors, are disorders characterized by elevated heterogeneity, both at the clinical and genetic levels. Our main goal was to address the genetic landscape of IRD in the largest cohort of Spanish patients reported to date. A retrospective hospital-based cross-sectional study was carried out on 6089 IRD affected individuals (from 4403 unrelated families), referred for genetic testing from all the Spanish autonomous communities. Clinical, demographic and familiar data were collected from each patient, including family pedigree, age of appearance of visual symptoms, presence of any systemic findings and geographical origin. Genetic studies were performed to the 3951 families with available DNA using different molecular techniques. Overall, 53.2% (2100/3951) of the studied families were genetically characterized, and 1549 different likely causative variants in 142 genes were identified. The most common phenotype encountered is retinitis pigmentosa (RP) (55.6% of families, 2447/4403). The most recurrently mutated genes were PRPH2, ABCA4 and RS1 in autosomal dominant (AD), autosomal recessive (AR) and X-linked (XL) NON-RP cases, respectively; RHO, USH2A and RPGR in AD, AR and XL for non-syndromic RP; and USH2A and MYO7A in syndromic IRD. Pathogenic variants c.3386G > T (p.Arg1129Leu) in ABCA4 and c.2276G > T (p.Cys759Phe) in USH2A were the most frequent variants identified. Our study provides the general landscape for IRD in Spain, reporting the largest cohort ever presented.     Prevalence, associated factors and outcomes of pressure injuries in adult intensive care unit patients: the DecubICUs study

Epidemiologic data is however unavailable. We aimed to provide an international picture of the extent of pressure injuries and factors associated with ICU-acquired pressure injuries in adult ICU patients. Methods: International 1-day point-prevalence study; follow-up for outcome assessment until hospital discharge (maximum 12 weeks). Factors associated with ICU-acquired pressure injury and hospital mortality were assessed by generalised linear mixed-effects regression analysis. Results: Data from 13,254 patients in 1117 ICUs (90 countries) revealed 6747 pressure injuries; 3997 (59.2%) were ICU-acquired. Overall prevalence was 26.6% (95% confidence interval [CI] 25.9–27.3). ICU-acquired prevalence was 16.2% (95% CI 15.6–16.8). Sacrum (37%) and heels (19.5%) were most affected. Factors independently associated with ICU-acquired pressure injuries were older age, male sex, being underweight, emergency surgery, higher Simplified Acute Physiology Score II, Braden score 3 days, comorbidities (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, immunodeficiency), organ support (renal replacement, mechanical ventilation on ICU admission), and being in a low or lower-middle income-economy. Gradually increasing associations with mortality were identified for increasing severity of pressure injury: stage I (odds ratio [OR] 1.5; 95% CI 1.2–1.8), stage II (OR 1.6; 95% CI 1.4–1.9), and stage III or worse (OR 2.8; 95% CI 2.3–3.3). Conclusion: Pressure injuries are common in adult ICU patients. ICU-acquired pressure injuries are associated with mainly intrinsic factors and mortality. Optimal care standards, increased awareness, appropriate resource allocation, and further research into optimal prevention are pivotal to tackle this important patient safety threat

    Directional Water Collection in Nanopore Networks

    The development of artificial nanosystems that mimic directional water-collecting ability of evolved biological surfaces is eagerly awaited. Here we report a new type of addressable water collection that is induced by coupling both vapor gradients, like a road drawn, and the temperature-tuned condensation in nanopores as step signals. What distinguishes the motion described here from the motions reported earlier is the fact that neither bulk liquid infiltration nor displacement of droplet is required. Instead, the motion results from a scanned water capture because of the temperature-dependent condensation command acting on the vapor pressure gradient track originated by a droplet without a bulk fluidic connection with a mesoporous film. This novel working principle demands only a small-range surface temperature control, which was entirely generated by a thermoelectric cell integrated to the mesoporous substrates. The strategy opens the route to achieving precise control over wetting location (from a few to hundreds of micrometers) and hence over the direction of water collected by these widely employed nanomaterials. Furthermore, as water is collected from condensation into the pores, the system naturally involves purification and subsequent delivery of clean water, which provides an added value to the proposed strategy

    Electrical current nanogeneration driven by spontaneous nanofluidic oscillations

    Exploiting natural phenomena is a central route for providing electricity to sustainably drive wearable electronics. Here we report a nano-scale water-driven energy generator that produces tiny electrical currents from spontaneous wetting-drying oscillations in mesoporous thin films. The system was fabricated with a wormlike mesoporous silica film, which was packed in between Cu and silicon contacts. The nanogenerator runs autonomously when a water droplet is laid over the film close to the Cu electrode, as water infiltration into the film under the electrode produces a direct-current. Wetting-drying cycles, which are spontaneously triggered by water evaporation, are perfectly correlated to the generated electrical current. The autonomous water displacement through the film yields a sustained energy conversion until the droplet reservoir vanishes. This novel water-driven nanogenerator opens new alternatives for versatile, mobile and cost-effective self-powering of nanosystems and nanodevices.Fil: Gimenez, Rocio Aldana.
