Jóvenes y sexo en la red: Reacción ante la exposición involuntaria a material sexual

    Get PDF
In recent years, we have been witness to a great expansion of pornography on the Net. As a result, it is not possible to isolate all this pornography to specific sites or web pages. For this reason, sometimes people are unwanted exposed to sexually detailed materials in pages that should not contain such materials. In adults, involuntary exposure seems to be harmless, whereas in children and adolescent, the exposure could be extremely upset. In this study, we focus on the frequency and the short-term / long-term effects of the involuntarily exposure in adolescents. For this purpose, 141 Spanish young people (48,2 % males and 51,8 % females), age ranged from 15 to 16 years, completed an Ad-Hoc questionnaire designed for the evaluation of the unwanted exposition experience. The results show a very high frequency of involuntary exposure (86.5 % of the sample unwanted exposed). Young people usually react to the involuntarily exposition closing the window and erasing the sexually materials. The majority of youth regard their personal unwanted exposures as distressful (disgusting, shameful, surprising, etc.). Finally, the majority of youth who had been exposed experienced apparent stress symptoms that they connected to the episode (77,3 % of the sample experienced avoidance; 75,5 sexual symptoms; 71,7 physiological arousal)

Monitoring coastal lagoon water quality through remote sensing: The Mar Menor as a Case study

    Get PDF
The Mar Menor is a hypersaline coastal lagoon located in the southeast of Spain. This fragile ecosystem is suffering several human pressures, such as nutrient and sediment inputs from agriculture and other activities and decreases in salinity. Therefore, the development of an operational system to monitor its evolution is crucial to know the cause-effect relationships and preserve the natural system. The evolution and variability of the turbidity and chlorophyll-a levels in the Mar Menor water body were studied here through the joint use of remote sensing techniques and in situ data. The research was undertaken using Operational Land Imager (OLI) images on Landsat 8 and two SPOT images, because cloudy weather prevented the use of OLI images alone. This provided the information needed to perform a time series analysis of the lagoon. We also analyzed the processes that occur in the salt lagoon, characterizing the different spatio-temporal patterns of biophysical parameters. Special attention was given to the role of turbidity and chlorophyll-a levels in the Mar Menor ecosystem with regard to the programs of integral management of this natural space that receives maximum environmental protection. The objective of the work has been fulfilled by answering the questions of the managers: when did the water quality in the Mar Menor begin to change? What is happening in the lagoon? Is remote sensing useful for monitoring the water quality in the Mar Menor? The answers to these questions have allowed the generation of a methodology and monitoring system to track the water quality in the Mar Menor in real-time and space. The tracking system using satellite images is open to the incorporation of images provided by new multispectral sensors. This research was co-funded (80%) by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through grant number FEDER 14-20-15

Objective To evaluate the experience of patients who were in the process of pregnancy interruption due to serious or incurable fetal malformations above 22 weeks’ gestation. Materials and Methods. A descriptive, cross-sectional pilot study was carried out using an ad-Hoc questionnaire that included 15 questions related to the quality of care and the gestational loss process developed by a multidisciplinary team of nurses and specialists in Maternal Fetal Medicine from the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. The quality of the «care» was evaluated using a score from 0-10 points. Results/Findings. The global «Care» score was 9.45. The environmental noise score was 5.98 in the different hospital facilities and the perception of time from delivery to hospital discharge had a score of 6.22. All our patients were offered contact with their babies after the interruption, but 58 % of the families would have liked to receive other regards in addition to the fingerprints they receive and 47% would have liked to have taken photographs of their babies. Additionally, 37 % of families said they would have spent more time with them. Finally, 53 % of the families reported the need to require psychological or emotional support, both during hospital admission and in the puerperium. Conclusions. The general assessment of the care provided was appropriate, although some aspects could be improved. Conducting a survey of families undergoing a late pregnancy interruption is a useful method to assess the quality of care provided and to design future actions.

Ssp1 CaMKK: A Sensor of Actin Polarization That Controls Mitotic Commitment through Srk1 in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

    Get PDF
Background Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinase (CaMKK) is required for diverse cellular functions. Mammalian CaMKK activates CaMKs and also the evolutionarily-conserved AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). The fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe CaMKK, Ssp1, is required for tolerance to limited glucose through the AMPK, Ssp2, and for the integration of cell growth and division through the SAD kinase Cdr2. Results Here we report that Ssp1 controls the G2/M transition by regulating the activity of the CaMK Srk1. We show that inhibition of Cdc25 by Srk1 is regulated by Ssp1; and also that restoring growth polarity and actin localization of ssp1-deleted cells by removing the actin-monomer-binding protein, twinfilin, is sufficient to suppress the ssp1 phenotype. Conclusions These findings demonstrate that entry into mitosis is mediated by a network of proteins, including the Ssp1 and Srk1 kinases. Ssp1 connects the network of components that ensures proper polarity and cell size with the network of proteins that regulates Cdk1-cyclin B activity, in which Srk1 plays an inhibitory role

Dietary diversity and depression: cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses in Spanish adult population with metabolic syndrome. Findings from PREDIMED-Plus trial

    Get PDF
Objective: To examine the cross-sectional and longitudinal (2-year follow-up) associations between dietary diversity (DD) and depressive symptoms. Design: An energy-adjusted dietary diversity score (DDS) was assessed using a validated FFQ and was categorised into quartiles (Q). The variety in each food group was classified into four categories of diversity (C). Depressive symptoms were assessed with Beck Depression Inventory-II (Beck II) questionnaire and depression cases defined as physician-diagnosed or Beck II >= 18. Linear and logistic regression models were used. Setting: Spanish older adults with metabolic syndrome (MetS). Participants: A total of 6625 adults aged 55–75 years from the PREDIMED-Plus study with overweight or obesity and MetS. Results: Total DDS was inversely and statistically significantly associated with depression in the cross-sectional analysis conducted; OR Q4 v. Q1 = 0·76 (95 % CI (0·64, 0·90)). This was driven by high diversity compared to low diversity (C3 v. C1) of vegetables (OR = 0·75, 95 % CI (0·57, 0·93)), cereals (OR = 0·72 (95 % CI (0·56, 0·94)) and proteins (OR = 0·27, 95 % CI (0·11, 0·62)). In the longitudinal analysis, there was no significant association between the baseline DDS and changes in depressive symptoms after 2 years of follow-up, except for DD in vegetables C4 v. C1 = (β = 0·70, 95 % CI (0·05, 1·35)). Conclusions: According to our results, DD is inversely associated with depressive symptoms, but eating more diverse does not seem to reduce the risk of future depression. Additional longitudinal studies (with longer follow-up) are needed to confirm these findings.T The PREDIMED-Plus trial was supported by the European Research Council (Advanced Research Grant 2013-2018; 340918) grant to Miguel Angel Martinez-Gonzalez, and by the official funding agency for biomedical research of the Spanish Government, ISCIII through the Fondo de Investigacion para la Salud (FIS), which is cofunded by the European Regional Development Fund (four coordinated FIS projects led by Jordi Salas-Salvado and Josep Vidal), including the following projects: PI13/00673, PI13/00492, PI13/00272, PI13/01123, PI13/00462, PI13/00233, PI13/02184, PI13/00728, PI13/01090, PI13/01056, PI14/01722, PI14/00636, PI14/00618, PI14/00696, PI14/01206, PI14/01919, PI14/00853, PI14/01374, PI16/00473, PI16/00662, PI16/01873, PI16/01094, PI16/00501, PI16/00533, PI16/00381, PI16/00366, PI16/01522, PI16/01120, PI17/00764, PI17/01183, PI17/00855, PI17/01347, PI17/00525, PI17/01827, PI17/00532, PI17/00215, PI17/01441, PI17/00508, PI17/01732, PI17/00926, The Especial Action Project entitled: 'Implementacion y Evaluacion de una intervencion intensiva sobre la actividad fisica Cohorte PREDIMED-Plus' grant to Jordi Salas-Salvado, the Recercaixa grant to Jordi Salas-Salvado (2013ACUP00194), grants from the Consejeria de Salud de la Junta de Andalucia (PI0458/2013; PS0358/2016; PI0137/2018), the PROMETEO/2017/017 grant from the Generalitat Valenciana, the SEMERGEN grant, and CIBEROBN and FEDER funds (CB06/03), ISCIII.
