    Analysis of Change in the Wind Speed Ratio according to Apartment Layout and Solutions

    Apartment complexes in various forms are built in downtown areas. The arrangement of an apartment complex has great influence on the wind flow inside it. There are issues of residents’ walking due to gust occurrence within apartment complexes, problems with pollutant emission due to airflow congestion, and heat island and cool island phenomena in apartment complexes. Currently, the forms of internal arrangements of apartment complexes are divided into the flat type and the tower type. In the present study, a wind tunnel experiment and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation were performed with respect to internal wind flows in different apartment arrangement forms. Findings of the wind tunnel experiment showed that the internal form and arrangement of an apartment complex had significant influence on its internal airflow. The wind velocity of the buildings increased by 80% at maximum due to the proximity effects between the buildings. The CFD simulation for relaxing such wind flows indicated that the wind velocity reduced by 40% or more at maximum when the paths between the lateral sides of the buildings were extended

    Novel Prediction Methods of Multicarrier Multipactor for Space Industry Standards

    [EN] Multipactor prediction methods are of high relevance for the space industry in order to prevent its appearance during the design phase of RF high-power components. Up to the present time, prediction for multicarrier signals has been covered by an empirical rule, the 20-gap-crossing rule (20GCR), proposed in the 2003 version of the multipactor standard published by the European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS). The 20GCR has been widely used by the space industry, although some studies have demonstrated that it might be inaccurate in some situations. The latest version of the ECSS multipactor standard, published in 2020, presents two novel methods for multipactor prediction with multicarrier signals: the pulsed method and the envelope sweep (ES) method, both simple, accurate enough, and suitable for industry standards. While the pulsed model is a simple and fast method based on a 1-D analytical theory, the ES method is more accurate and able to deal with real 3-D microwave structures. Although many clinical experiences have reported the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic enucleation of functioning NETs, such as insulinomas, few reports have explored such treatment for non-functioning NETs.     Drug Resistance Rates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis at a Private Referral Center in Korea

    The goals of this study were to identify first-line drug resistance in new and previously treated tuberculosis (TB) cases and to determine risk factors for multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) at a private referral center in Korea. All patients with culture-confirmed pulmonary TB over a 2-yr period between July 2002 and June 2004 were prospectively included in this study. In total, 637 patients were included; 512 (80.4%) were new cases, and 125 (19.6%) were previously treated cases. Resistance to at least one first-line drug was identified in 11.7% of new cases and 41.6% of previously treated cases. MDR-TB was detected in 3.9% of new cases and 27.2% of previously treated cases. The proportion of extensively drug-resistant TB among MDR-TB patients was 16.7% (9/54). Factors associated with MDR-TB included age under 45 yr, previous TB treatment, and the presence of cavitation on chest radiography. Rates of first-line drug resistance are high, particularly in previously treated patients, in the private sector in Korea. This underscores the need for an improved control program, coupled with early diagnosis of MDR-TB, to reduce the spread and development of resistance

    Patterning-assembly technology for energy storage systems can be a breakthrough for physicochemically limited energy storage systems. In this study, a concept of design with experimental proof is provided for an all-solid-state origami-type foldable supercapacitor by a novel patterning approach. The proposed system is composed of periodically assembled isolated electrodes (IEs) and sectionalized ion transferring paper (SITP), which are key factors for the densely packed series circuit analogues in the single system. The system shows a linear relationship between the potential window and the number of IEs, which does not have any limited asymptotic line. This system could increase energy and power simultaneously, which was conventionally not possible. Also, its folding characteristics accommodate highly stable stretching. These characteristics are proven by simulations based on ab- initio calculations and the finite-element method.11Nsciescopu
