¿Por qué hablar de cuidados cuando hablamos de migraciones transnacionales?

En este artículo parto de reflexiones contenidas en trabajos anteriores para situar los cuidados en el centro de la reproducción de las desigualdades sociales en el contexto de las migraciones transnacionales. La identificación de diferentes categorías de diferenciación social de la ciudadanía –etnicidad, raza, extranjería, clase- me llevará a interrogarme sobre las lógicas de diferenciación de género que venimos aplicando. Desde una perspectiva feminista e interseccional trato de recuperar el potencial de la categoría “reproducción social” en cualquier análisis de las migraciones transnacionales, no sólo cuando hablamos de género e inmigración. Al tiempo que reivindico el valor de la etnografía en su capacidad de ahondar en el conocimiento de la producción de significados de género, extranjería y diferencia cultural en cada contexto específico, así como en su capacidad para mostrarnos la complejidad de los significados que rodean las prácticas sociales de cuidar y ser cuidado en la producción de la desigualdad.Palabras clave: migraciones transnacionales; género; etnicidad; cuidados; etnografía; reproducción social.AbstractIn this paper I start from reflections contained in previous articles to place care at the heart of the reproduction of social inequalities in the context of transnational migrations. The identification of different categories of social differentiation inside the concept of citizenship—ethnicity, race, foreignness, class—will lead me to question the way we have been applying gender differentiation. From a feminist, intersectional perspective I try to recover the power of the category of “social reproduction,” not only in the analysis of gender and immigration, but also in any analysis of transnational migrations. Tensiones conceptuales en la relación entre género y migraciones. Reflexiones desde la etnografía y la crítica feminista

A partir de la revisión de la literatura sobre género y migraciones que toma el contexto del Estado español como «país de inmigración», se plantean, desde la crítica feminista en antropología social y desde la mirada etnográfica, diferentes problemáticas que nos han venido ocupando a las investigadoras: la maternidad transnacional, la organización de los cuidados a nivel mundial, la multiplicidad de discriminaciones que producen la categoría «mujer inmigrante no comunitaria», el cambio en las relaciones o sistemas de género desencadenado por las migraciones y, por último, los vínculos entre inmigración, desigualdades de género y diferencia cultural. Estas problemáticas se presentan utilizando la categoría «tensión conceptual» planteada por Maquieira (2008), que se basa en la propuesta de Del Valle (2005) de recuperar el potencial de la tensión en la comprensión del cambio social desde la perspectiva feminista en antropología social.Based on a critical review of current literature on gender and migration in the context of Spain as "a country of immigration", feminist criticism in social anthropology and ethnography has identified several problematic issues. The main issues of concern to researchers are transnational maternity; the organization of care; multiple processes of exclusion produced by the "non-EU immigrant women" category; changes in gender systems or gender relations produced by migration processes; and finally the links between immigration, gender inequalities and cultural differences. In this paper we analyse in depth the issues of most interest to researchers in order to stimulate new discussions by identifying the 'conceptual tensions' that are believed to lie beneath each of these research questions. Our approach is based on Virginia Maquieira's definition of 'conceptual tension' as tensions triggered by social events that change how subjects are perceived and their potential power to change and reproduce an existing social order. In addition, we include the creative aspect of this conceptual tension, which refers to opposed forces promoting outcomes regarding social forces generated by diverse groups

Feminist debates in the analysis of non-communitarian migration in Spain

La producción teórica sobre cuestiones de género y migración transnacional, aunque reciente, se nos muestra muy prolija, tanto que podemos identificar la configuración de un ‘campo’ de estudios, el de ‘género y migraciones’. Partiendo del análisis realizado de la producción científica en el contexto español desde la década de los noventa del siglo XX, traeré aquí diferentes temáticas que han ocupado a las investigadoras, identificando las ‘tensiones conceptuales’. Para finalizar compartiré algunas reflexiones desde el compromiso que siento como antropóloga social y docente en mi intento por tratar de conformar una mirada no etnocéntrica, ni androcéntrica. Lo haré desde el indudable valor que considero tiene la etnografía en la comprensión de los procesos de reproducción y cambio social en nuestras sociedades multiculturalesEven if recent, the theoretical production on gender and transnational migrations is very abundant. To this extent, we can identify the creation of a new “field” of study dealing with “gender and migrations”. Based on the analysis of the scientific work developed in Spain since the nineties of the XX century, I hereafter put forward the different subjects and matters that researchers have been involved with. I will also identify the “conceptual tensions” (as called by Virginia Maquieira in 2008). Finally, I will share some reflections stemming from my commitment as a social anthropologist and as a professor. These thoughts will try to define a specific look, neither ethnocentric nor andro-centric, on the issue of gender and migrations. My approach acknowledges the unquestionable value of ethnography as a key feature to understand the processes of reproduction and social change in our multicultural societies

La Casa de las Golondrinas. Estudio compositivo y comparativo

[EN] Vicente Sancho was a well-known architect who developed his work during the early years of the 20th century. His work was within the style of Valencian Art Nouveau. He was widely renowned in those days. Despite this, his labor is practically unknown nowadays. One of his most ingenious buildings was la casa de las golondrinas (the House of the Swallows) both for its size and for its in-depth compositional study. In this article, the building has been studied at a compositional level and has been compared with some Valencian Art Nouveau buildings included in the Structural Catalogue of Assets and Protected Spaces of Valencia PGOU of Valencia. The objective of this study is to rekindle interest in and value the architecture of Vicente Sancho.[ES] Vicente Sancho fue un reconocido arquitecto que desarrolló su trabajo durante los primeros años del siglo XX. Éste se enmarca en el estilo del Modernismo valenciano. Consiguió gran admiración en su tiempo. Sin embargo, a pesar de ello, su labor es prácticamente desconocida en la actualidad. Uno de sus edificios más espectaculares fue la casa de las golondrinas , tanto por su tamaño como por su profundo estudio compositivo. En este artículo se ha estudiado el edificio a nivel compositivo y se ha comparado con algunos edificios modernistas valencianos incluidos en el catálogo de bienes protegidos de Valencia. Rearching and cataloging new heritage

[EN] The Spanish civil war left a devastated country. The losses were not only material but also of knowledge. Both because of the bombings and because of the ideological struggles, some irreproducible cultural assets were lost. The historical archives of many cities are some of these assets. It happened especially in small towns since their lack of means to safeguard the archives. This circumstance makes difficult to investigate the architecture carried out at the beginning of the 20th century in the affected areas. However, these adverse circumstances should not prevent the cataloging and study of works of deserved importance. Through the architecture of Vicente Sancho Fuster, it is shown how several buildings designed by him have been located despite the lack of written consultation documentation. The first step carried out was the study of la casa Roglà, in Valencia, of which is preserved the project. Subsequently, the defining characteristics of this building were compared with two existing buildings in Burriana and Turís. Finally, through the common characteristics it has been possible to conclude that the authorship of the three buildings belongs to the same architect.Burguete Gil, C. (2023). La arquitectura mortuoria. Los panteones de Vicente Sancho Fuster

[EN] Death has been one of the unsolved mysteries of the human being. This issue has concerned humans as far as they can remember. Each culture has designed the eternal life in a different way. But what they all needed were suitable places for eternal rest. These have been developed in different shapes and sizes, from simple burial mounds to pantheons, going through to the great pyramids. All these constructions constitute mortuary architecture. These have been designed to last for eternity but, nevertheless, they are not as eternal as intended. They are affected by time. This paper will analyse the different types of damage that these constructions can suffer, through an analysis of the most ornate pantheons designed by the architect Vicente Sancho Fuster (1875-1910). The damages can range from abandonment and lack of conservation to total transformation, distorting their original symbolism. Finally, this paper will conclude by generalising the types of damage that these constructions can suffer, in order to aid the preservation of this part of our historical heritage. [ES] Desde tiempos inmemoriales la búsqueda del descanso eterno ha marcado las diferentes culturas dando lugar a una tipología propia, la arquitectura mortuoria. Dentro de esta tipología se abarca gran cantidad de construcciones, desde los sencillos túmulos funerarios hasta las grandes pirámides. Más cercanos a nosotros están los panteones. Todas estas construcciones, pensadas para la eternidad, se ven afectadas por el paso del tiempo. Mediante el análisis de los panteones más emblemáticos diseñados por el arquitecto modernista Vicente Sancho Fuster (1875-1910), se pretende estudiar las diferentes agresiones que pueden sufrir este tipo de construcciones. Éstas van desde el abandono y la falta de conservación hasta la transformación total de los mismos desvirtuando su simbolismo de origen. Finalmente, se concluirá generalizando las degradaciones que afectan a esta tipología para hacer frente a las mismas y preservar esta parte de nuestro patrimonio histórico.Burguete Gil, C. (2023).
