Gema B. GARRIDO VÍLCHEZ: Nineteenth Century Milestones in the Grammatical Conceptualization of the RAE. Of the numerous nineteenth century editions of the academic Gramática, three stand out as milestones: the GRAE from 1854, 1870 and 1880. The covers of each of these three texts present them as “new editions”. Indeed, they are considerable milestones in the doctrinal evolution of this Institution: each one of them would be a model for all the editions that followed until the publication of the next milestone (which does not mean that the body of the doctrine was never partially redone in some of the intermediate editions). To provide a description of the grammatical theory that the three editions contain, one must, first look into the conceptualization of the Grammar that is defended in them (by way of the definition, division and characteristics attributed to the discipline) and also the way in which the books are structured and the objectives that each was meant to achieve

AEMIX: semantic verification of weather forecasts on the web

Ponencia presentada en: 12th International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies celebrada en Roma del 23 al 25 de abril de 2016The main objectives of a meteorological service are the development, implementation and delivery of weather forecasts. Weather predictions are broadcasted to society through different channels, i.e. newspaper, television, radio, etc. Today, the use of theWeb through personal computers and mobile devices stands out. The forecasts, which can be presented in numerical format, in charts, or in written natural language, have a certain margin of error. Providing automatic tools able to assess the precision of predictions allows to improve these forecasts, quantify the degree of success depending on certain variables (geographic areas, weather conditions, time of year, etc.), and focus future work on areas for improvement that increase such accuracy. Despite technological advances, the task of verifying forecasts written in natural language is still performed manually by people in many cases, which is expensive, time-consuming, and subjected to human errors. On the other hand, weather forecasts usually follow several conventions in both structure and use of language, which, while not completely formal, can be exploited to increase the quality of the verification. In this paper, we describe a methodology to quantify the accuracy of weather forecasts posted on the Web and based on natural language. This work obtains relevant information from weather forecasts by using ontologies to capture and take advantage of the structure and language conventions. This approach is implemented in a framework that allows to address different types of predictions with minimal effort. Experimental results with real data are promising, and most importantly, they allow direct use in a real meteorological service. This research work has been supported by the CICYT project TIN2013-46238-C4-4-R, and DGAFS

Concrete as heritage: The social perception from heritage criteria perspective: The eduardo Torroja's work

Eduardo Torroja Miret (1899-1961) was one of the most important Spanish engineers. His understanding of structures and materials made him a world reference in the field of engineering and architecture. Due to the lack of ornamentation in his works and the lack of heritage interpretation aimed at a non-specialist public, many of his works sometimes go unnoticed by inexperienced eyes and, despite his important legacy, Torroja remains a great unknown. This paper reports on the existing heritage perception of two of his most outstanding works in Spain, the Zarzuela Hippodrome and the Instituto Técnico de la Construcción y el Cemento (Eduardo Torroja Institute). To this end, surveys and interviews were carried out with visitors to both buildings based on different heritage criteria, such as their architectural importance, aesthetics, significance or representativeness, but also from the point of view of the available tourist infrastructure. The results show a lack of appreciation in the heritage criteria related to its architectural, historical and aesthetic values, combined with a lack of knowledge about Torroja and its way of understanding architectural beauty. © 2020 WITPress. Sport in schools is, often, a reflection of professional sport that currently takes place in our society, when it is assumed that most children choose sports as mostly or enjoy being with friends. Thus, we consider it important to know the opinion that parents have about sports in school age that their children practice. The objective of the present study was to design and validate a questionnaire for parents in order to know what their perceptions, behaviors and attitudes regarding the sport of their children, concretely in the Municipal Sports Academies in Sevilla. For this reason, this article shows the construction and validation of a questionnaire in different phases: the validation of the questionnaire through the experts, the draft of the definitive questionnaire and the pilot study and the record of the information for the process of reliability.

Gene expression pattern in swine neutrophils after lipopolysaccharide exposure: a time course comparison

Background: Experimental exposure of swine neutrophils to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) represents a model to study the innate immune response during bacterial infection. Neutrophils can effectively limit the infection by secreting lipid mediators, antimicrobial molecules and a combination of reactive oxygen species (ROS) without new synthesis of proteins. However, it is known that neutrophils can modify the gene expression after LPS exposure. We performed microarray gene expression analysis in order to elucidate the less known transcriptional response of neutrophils during infection. Methods: Blood samples were collected from four healthy Iberian pigs and neutrophils were isolated and incubated during 6, 9 and 18 hrs in presence or absence of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. RNA was isolated and hybridized to Affymetrix Porcine GeneChip®. Microarray data were normalized using Robust Microarray Analysis (RMA) and then, differential expression was obtained by an analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results: ANOVA data analysis showed that the number of differentially expressed genes (DEG) after LPS treatment vary with time. The highest transcriptional response occurred at 9 hr post LPS stimulation with 1494 DEG whereas at 6 and 18 hr showed 125 and 108 DEG, respectively. Three different gene expression tendencies were observed: genes in cluster 1 showed a tendency toward up-regulation; cluster 2 genes showing a tendency for down-regulation at 9 hr; and cluster 3 genes were up-regulated at 9 hr post LPS stimulation. Ingenuity Pathway Analysis revealed a delay of neutrophil apoptosis at 9 hr. Many genes controlling biological functions were altered with time including those controlling metabolism and cell organization, ubiquitination, adhesion, movement or inflammatory response. Conclusions: LPS stimulation alters the transcriptional pattern in neutrophils and the present results show that the robust transcriptional potential of neutrophils under infection conditions, indicating that active regulation of gene expression plays a major role in the neutrophil-mediated- innate immune respons

Introduction: Students attending university are at a critical period for the development and consolidation of future lifestyles. The objective of this study was to know the eating habits, food preferences and culinary skills of first-year students on different degree courses at the University of Huelva. Material and Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study in academic year 2015-2016 of a sample of 756 students. Adherence to the Mediterranean Diet was measured by the KIDMED questionnaire. The rest of the variables were measured by an ad hoc questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using the PSPP programme, calculating arithmetic means, standard deviations and percentages for the descriptive analysis, with Chi-square test and ANOVA for the relational analysis. Results: 20.4% of students have an optimal level of adherence to the Mediterranean Diet, compared to 65.3% % with an average level and 14.3% with low adherence. Favourite foods cited were chicken (62.2%), pasta (58.2%), pork (50.4%) and chips (45.9%). The types of food the students knew how to prepare included pasta (93.8%), egg and chips (90.2%), precooked pizza (88.7%), fruit juices (86.1%) and grilled meat (85.8%). Conclusions: Huelva university students diet is very similar to that of other university populations studied. We found a preference for meat and foods rich in carbohydrates, to the detriment of fruit and vegetables. A lack of culinary skills was observed, which could explain the deterioration in eating habits; this is a pointer to future interventions.

Shortcomings of the Commercial MALDI-TOF MS Database and Use of MLSA as an Arbiter in the Identification of Nocardia Species

Nocardia species are difficult to identify, a consequence of the ever increasing number of species known and their homogeneous genetic characteristics. 16S rRNA analysis has been the gold standard for identifying these organisms, but proteomic techniques such as matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight (MALDI-TOF MS) and housekeeping gene analysis, have also been explored. One hundred high (n = 25), intermediate (n = 20), and low (n = 55) prevalence (for Spain) Nocardia strains belonging to 30 species were identified via 16S rRNA and MALDI-TOF MS analysis. The manufacturer-provided database MALDI Biotyper library v4.0 (5.627 entries, Bruker Daltonik) was employed. In the high prevalence group (Nocardia farcinica, N. abscessus, N. cyriacigeorgica and N. nova), the 16S rRNA and MALDI-TOF MS methods provided the same identification for 76% of the strains examined. For the intermediate prevalence group (N. brasiliensis, N. carnea, N. otitidiscaviarum and N. transvalensis complex), this figure fell to 45%. In the low-prevalence group (22 species), these two methods were concordant only in six strains at the species level. Tetra-gene multi-locus sequencing analysis (MLSA) involving the concatemer gyrB-16S rRNA-hsp65-secA1 was used to arbitrate between discrepant identifications (n = 67). Overall, the MLSA confirmed the results provided at species level by 16S rRNA analysis in 34.3% of discrepancies, and those provided by MALDI-TOF MS in 13.4%. MALDI-TOF MS could be a strong candidate for the identification of Nocardia species, but only if its reference spectrum database improves, especially with respect to unusual, recently described species and species included in the described Nocardia complexes. This work was funded by a grant to NG from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (MPY 1278/15).S
