New variable stars discovered in the fields of three Galactic open clusters using the VVV Survey
This project is a massive near-infrared (NIR) search for variable stars in
highly reddened and obscured open cluster (OC) fields projected on regions of
the Galactic bulge and disk. The search is performed using photometric NIR data
in the -, - and - bands obtained from the Vista Variables in the
V\'ia L\'actea (VVV) Survey. We performed in each cluster field a variability
search using Stetson's variability statistics to select the variable
candidates. Later, those candidates were subjected to a frequency analysis
using the Generalized Lomb-Scargle and the Phase Dispersion Minimization
algorithms. The number of independent observations range between 63 and 73. The
newly discovered variables in this study, 157 in total in three different known
OCs, are classified based on their light curve shapes, periods, amplitudes and
their location in the corresponding color-magnitude and
color-color diagrams. We found 5 possible Cepheid stars which,
based on the period-luminosity relation, are very likely type II Cepheids
located behind the bulge. Among the newly discovered variables, there are
eclipsing binaries, Scuti, as well as background RR Lyrae stars. Using
the new version of the Wilson & Devinney code as well as the "Physics Of
Eclipsing Binaries" (PHOEBE) code, we analyzed some of the best eclipsing
binaries we discovered. Our results show that these studied systems turn out to
be ranging from detached to double-contact binaries, with low eccentricities
and high inclinations of approximately . Their surface temperatures
range between K and K.Comment: 34 pages, 10 figures, 7 tables. Accepted for publication in New

Effect of the fungicide Prochloraz-Mn on the cell wall structure of Verticillium fungicola
The chemical structure of the cell wall of two isolates of Verticillium fungicola collected from diseased fruit bodies of the commercial mushroom Agaricus bisporus treated with the fungicide Prochloraz-Mn was analyzed. The isolates were obtained during different periods of time and grown in the absence and presence of the LD50 values of the fungicide for V. fungicola. In addition, another V. fungicola isolate collected previous to the routine utilization of Prochloraz-Mn but grown under the same conditions was also analyzed. The overall chemical composition of the cell wall from the three isolates showed detectable differences in their basic components, with a significant decrease in the protein content in fungicide-treated cells. This inhibitory effect was partially compensated by an increase in neutral and/or aminated carbohydrates and was accompanied by appreciable modifications of polysaccharide structure, as deduced after methylation analysis and gas-liquid chromatography- mass spectrometry (GLC-MS). Moreover, differences in hyphal morphology caused by the fungicide were observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM)
Varón joven con insuficiencia cardíaca derecha e hipertensión pulmonar
A 33-years old man with previous non-controlled hyperthyroidism was admitted to the hospital because of right-sided heart failure. In a transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) a moderate pulmonary hypertension (PH) and dilatation of the right chambers were detected. We ruled out left-sided heart failure, lung, thromboembolic, autoimmune or infectious diseases and portal hypertension. The patient received beta blockers, digoxin and carbimazole at high doses. Concurring with the normalization of the thyroid function the following TTEs showed reduction of the pulmonary artery pressure and right chambers diameter. Identifying hyperthyroidism as a cause of PH has important implications in its management and prognosis.
Role of telemedicine in the management of oral anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation: a practical clinical approach
COVID-19; Direct oral anticoagulant; TelemedicineCOVID-19; Anticoagulante oral directo; TelemedicinaCOVID-19; Anticoagulant oral directe; TelemedicinaCompared with face-to-face consultations, telemedicine has many advantages, including more efficient use of healthcare resources, partial relief of the burden of care, reduced exposure to COVID-19, treatment adjustment, organization of more efficient healthcare circuits and patient empowerment. Ensuring optimal anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation patients is mandatory if we want to reduce the thromboembolic risk. Of note, telemedicine is an excellent option for the long-term management of atrial fibrillation patients. Moreover, direct oral anticoagulants may provide an added value in telemedicine (versus vitamin K antagonists), as it is not necessary to monitor anticoagulant effect or make continuous dosage adjustments. In this multidisciplinary consensus document, the role of telemedicine in anticoagulation of this population is discussed and practical recommendations are provided.V Barrios has received consultancy/lecture fees from Bayer, BMS/Pfizer, Boehringer Ingelheim and Daiichi Sankyo. Influence of solvent on poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) dynamics in polymer-concentrated mixtures: a combined neutron scattering, dielectric spectroscopy and calorimetric study
We have investigated the dynamical processes-α-relaxation, local motions of the side-groups, and methyl group rotations-in poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) in the dry state and in mixtures (at 70 wt% polymer concentration) with tetrahydrofuran (THF) and water, to address the question as to how these polymer motions are affected by plasticizers interacting in different ways with the polymer. Differential scanning calorimetry, dielectric spectroscopy, and neutron scattering techniques on labeled samples (with deuterated solvents to isolate the signal of the polymer component) have been combined. The α-relaxation is drastically affected, with similar shifts of the glass-transition temperature for both solvents. Effects of compositional heterogeneities and reduction of the fragility are also observed. On the contrary, methyl-group dynamics are unaffected by the presence of solvent. Regarding side-group local motions (β-relaxation), two kinds of components-a slow and a fast one-could be identified in the dry state. On the basis of the spatial information provided by neutron scattering, a model for the geometry of the motions involved in the fast component has been proposed. Adding solvent, this process would remain essentially unaltered, but the population involved in the slower one would be reduced. With THF as solvent, this reduction would be complete, but with water it would be only partial. This could be attributed to rather heterogeneous distribution of water molecules in the polymer likely associated with the presence of water clusters. Such a scenario would also explain the much more pronounced broadening of the glass-transition region observed for the polymer in the aqueous mixture with respect to that induced by THF.Financial support from the Projects MAT2012-31088 (Spanish MINECO and EU) and IT-654-13 (Basque Government) is acknowledged. Factores psicosociales de riesgo y burnout en policías: un análisis de redes
Work stress has been identified as a critical factor affecting mental health in police officers. Psychosocial factors increase the impact of work stress on police officers and,in the long run, contribute to the onset of burnout symptoms. In this research asample of 323 was studied to study the relationship between psychosocial risk factors and the probability of suffering burnout symptoms. The participant’s answers to the MBI-GSandF-PSICO(version4.0) were analysed by using network analysis. There sults show that psychosocial risk factors are strongly associated in network models when higher level of cynicism and emotional exhaustion are observed. Additionally, higher levels of burnout in police officers were observed when lower autonomy, higher psychological demands, role ambiguities and alower perceived social support were present. Results are discussed considering its theoretical and applied relevance to design healthier work environments an defficient psychologicalinterventionsEl estrés laboral crónico ha sido identificado como uno de los riesgos laborales más importantes que afecta a la salud mental de los agentes de policía.
New VVV Survey Globular Cluster Candidates in the Milky Way Bulge
© 2017 The American Astronomical Society. All rights reserved. It is likely that a number of Galactic globular clusters remain to be discovered, especially toward the Galactic bulge. High stellar density combined with high and differential interstellar reddening are the two major problems for finding globular clusters located toward the bulge. We use the deep near-IR photometry of the VISTA Variables in the Vía Láctea (VVV) Survey to search for globular clusters projected toward the Galactic bulge, and hereby report the discovery of 22 new candidate globular clusters. These objects, detected as high density regions in our maps of bulge red giants, are confirmed as globular cluster candidates by their color-magnitude diagrams. We provide their coordinates as well as their near-IR color-magnitude diagrams, from which some basic parameters are derived, such as reddenings and heliocentric distances. The color-magnitude diagrams reveal well defined red giant branches in all cases, often including a prominent red clump. The new globular cluster candidates exhibit a variety of extinctions (0.06 < A Ks < 2.77) and distances (5.3 < D < 9.5 kpc). We also classify the globular cluster candidates into 10 metal-poor and 12 metal-rich clusters, based on the comparison of their color-magnitude diagrams with those of known globular clusters also observed by the VVV Survey. Finally, we argue that the census for Galactic globular clusters still remains incomplete, and that many more candidate globular clusters (particularly the low luminosity ones) await to be found and studied in detail in the central regions of the Milky Way.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio
