Acoustical Behavior Of Churches: Mudejar-Gothic Churches

    Get PDF
Christian churches have traditionally been considered to have very good acoustical behavior. This unfounded belief has led to important en-on in church rehabilitation works, especially when the church is to be used subsequently as an auditorium or theater; this is the case of many churches in Spain. Our research group has worked in acoustical analysis for more than ten years. We have participated in many cases of church rehabilitation and have had the opp&unity to achieve surprisingly good acwstical behavior in several. We deal with a very common type in southern Spain: Gothic-Mudejar churches, which have a small volume, a triple-nave layout, and wooden ceilings

Current status of las tablas de daimiel national park wetland and actions required for conservation

Wetlands are complex ecosystems that play multiple roles. ‘Las Tablas de Daimiel National Park’ (TDNP) undoubtedly plays a role in several ecosystem services and provides a connection between nature, farmers, scientists, residents, and other stakeholders. The state of degradation and/or vulnerability of this ecosystem (with a series of socio-economic implications) have led the publication of numerous articles. The work reported here provides a description of the growing importance of this wetland within the rural landscapes of La Mancha and emphasizes its state of degradation, mainly since pedological point of view. In this way, particular attention is required to assure the conservation of the Tablas of Daimiel Wetland; thus, several measures are proposed to improve the conservation of this area as to control and prohibit any dumping of any type of waste in the park or in its vicinityThis Research was funded by Organismo Autonomo Parques Nacionales (Autonomous Organism National Parks) of Spain (OAPN

Effects of the second virial coefficient on the adiabatic lapse rate of dry atmospheres

We study the effect of the second virial coefficient on the adiabatic lapse rate of a dry atmosphere. To this end, we compute the corresponding adiabatic curves, the internal energy, and the heat capacity, among other thermodynamic parameters. We apply these results to Earth, Mars, Venus, Titan, and the exoplanet G1 851d, considering three physically relevant virial coefficients in each case: the hard-sphere, van der Waals, and the square-well potential. These examples illustrate under which atmospheric conditions the effect of the second virial coefficient is relevant. Taking the latter into account yields corrections towards the experimental values of the lapse rates of Venus and Titan in some instances.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures. Comments are welcom

The quality of secondary materials is imperative to promote a circular economy. In order to improve the way in which the quality of recycled gypsum is assessed, European guidelines on recycled gypsum (RG) quality criteria have been outlined in the framework of the Life+ Gypsum to Gypsum (GtoG) project. Such GtoG guidelines, along with the European Standard on gypsum plasterboard EN 520, provided the basis for this study. During the GtoG project, gypsum recycling and plasterboard manufacturing processes were monitored by testing the gypsum feedstock and the plasterboard produced. The aim of this paper is to discuss the results obtained on relevant parameters that characterize gypsum as a secondary raw material, as well as the resulting product. The minimum requirements were fulfilled by 56% of the RG samples and 86% of the plasterboard with increased RG.La calidad de las materias primas secundarias es fundamental para promover una economía circular.

Numerical simulation of runoff from extreme rainfall events in a mountain water catchment

A numerical model for unsteady shallow water flow over initially dry areas is applied to a case study in a small drainage area at the Spanish Ebro River basin. Several flood mitigation measures (reforestation, construction of a small reservoir and channelization) are simulated in the model in order to compare different extreme rainfall-runoff scenarios

4 Pags., 2 Figs. Trabajo originalmente presentado en International Workshop on Numerical Modelling of Hydrodynamic for Water Resources (Zaragoza. 2007)A recent technique for the numerical boundary conditions in 1D shallow water flow models is able to preserve the good properties of a conservative scheme used for the interior points. The implementation in a conservative scheme is shown in a test cases with exact solution and applied to the simulation of a real river flood wave leading to very satisfactory results.Peer reviewe

It is a commonplace the argument about the benefits of non-profit inclusion in the provision of public services to reduce the welfare state crisis. Therefore, there are many few studies about the quality of relationships between non-profit sector and governmental agencies. This article presents an analytical proposal and its application by a case study. The main argument is that the quality of relations between non-profit sector and government depends of governmental agencies' information about non profit entities

Integración de las construcciones rurales en el paisaje: encuestas y conclusiones

Design and integration of rural buildings in landscape: surveys and conclusions. The visual and aesthetic aspect of any object is defined by its characteristics of colour, form, line and texture. Any elements of compositive reference such as its scale and spatial character could also be added. This research applies a new method for predicting the value of the integration of buildings into the landscape, based on psychological aspects and the capacities of modern computers that are able to analyse easily these attributes. The designer can analyse the visual elements, all of them divided and studied in the properties that define them

Buildings environmental impact assessment: simulation of textures

To study the construction as modifying of the environment and by so much as aesthetic attribute of the scene should know in what aspect influences. The physical resources of the landscape will be very seemed before and after the incorporation of a project (quality of content). Therefore they will be mainly the new composition of the elements (communicative quality) and the aesthetic resources (quality aesthetics) on those which will influence the constructions. The different points of view election will remain settled with the simulation by infographic photocomposition. The visual and aesthetic aspect of any object is defined by their characteristic of color, form, line and texture. It could be also added any elements of compositive reference as are its scale and being tried to stages, as is the case of the landscape, its spatial character. In this article we will center ourselves in one of these attributes: the texture. The different textures vision is crucial in the communication. The simulation of the landscapte has suffered a great impulse with the treatment of the photograph. This method admits various alternatives. It can be analyzed the taken image of the reality such which, or deducting some of its parts, adding some other element originating from the same or of other scene, or including constructions designed in CAD. The great advance, for the investigation of the visual perception, is procured in the composition using the landscape as fund and a construcion created through a design program attended by ordering. This step supposes great alternatives variability and a rapid generation of the same. Settled the great problem to obtain to compatibilize the points of view of the panorama and of the superposed performance and climinated by photographic treatment the properties of the surfaces that tent to be smooth and metalized brilliants. The reflections and conclusions of the texture emerge with speed. They are analyzed in the study the different simulations with different textures
