On Kedlaya type inequalities for weighted means
In 2016 we proved that for every symmetric, repetition invariant and Jensen
concave mean the Kedlaya-type inequality holds for an
arbitrary ( stands for the arithmetic mean). We are going
to prove the weighted counterpart of this inequality. More precisely, if
is a vector with corresponding (non-normalized) weights
and denotes the weighted mean then, under
analogous conditions on , the inequality holds for every and such that the sequence

Predictive biometrics: A review and analysis of predicting personal characteristics from biometric data
Interest in the exploitation of soft biometrics information has continued to develop over the last decade or so. In comparison with traditional biometrics, which focuses principally on person identification, the idea of soft biometrics processing is to study the utilisation of more general information regarding a system user, which is not necessarily unique. There are increasing indications that this type of data will have great value in providing complementary information for user authentication. However, the authors have also seen a growing interest in broadening the predictive capabilities of biometric data, encompassing both easily definable characteristics such as subject age and, most recently, `higher level' characteristics such as emotional or mental states. This study will present a selective review of the predictive capabilities, in the widest sense, of biometric data processing, providing an analysis of the key issues still adequately to be addressed if this concept of predictive biometrics is to be fully exploited in the future
Kafirin structure and functionality
The structural and functional properties of kafirins are reviewed. Three classes of kafirin: the a, ß and ? forms have been identified at the protein level and one, the d, has been identified only at the gene and transcript levels. All forms show high homology with the equivalent zein proteins. By analogy with the zeins it is believed that the a-kafirins probably have an extended hairpin structure in solution, comprising elements of a-helix, ß-sheet and turns folded back on itself. Kafirins are the most hydrophobic of the prolamins as shown by their solubility, and calculated hydration free energies. The proteins exhibit extensive cross-linking by disulphide bonds and on cooking form indigestible aggregates which are not solubilised by reduction of disulphide bonds. In spite of continuing studies, the reasons for the low digestibility of the protein remain uncertain and there may be several factors involved. Gauging and symplectic blowing up in nonlinear sigma-models: I. point singularities
In this paper a two dimensional non-linear sigma model with a general
symplectic manifold with isometry as target space is used to study symplectic
blowing up of a point singularity on the zero level set of the moment map
associated with a quasi-free Hamiltonian action. We discuss in general the
relation between symplectic reduction and gauging of the symplectic isometries
of the sigma model action. In the case of singular reduction, gauging has the
same effect as blowing up the singular point by a small amount. Using the
exponential mapping of the underlying metric, we are able to construct
symplectic diffeomorphisms needed to glue the blow-up to the global reduced
space which is regular, thus providing a transition from one symplectic sigma

Model study on the photoassociation of a pair of trapped atoms into an ultralong-range molecule
Using the method of quantum-defect theory, we calculate the ultralong-range
molecular vibrational states near the dissociation threshold of a diatomic
molecular potential which asymptotically varies as . The properties of
these states are of considerable interest as they can be formed by
photoassociation (PA) of two ground state atoms. The Franck-Condon overlap
integrals between the harmonically trapped atom-pair states and the
ultralong-range molecular vibrational states are estimated and compared with
their values for a pair of untrapped free atoms in the low-energy scattering
state. We find that the binding between a pair of ground-state atoms by a
harmonic trap has significant effect on the Franck-Condon integrals and thus
can be used to influence PA. Trap-induced binding between two ground-state
atoms may facilitate coherent PA dynamics between the two atoms and the

Detailed electronic structure studies on superconducting MgB and related compounds
In order to understand the unexpected superconducting behavior of MgB
compound we have made electronic structure calculations for MgB and closely
related systems. Our calculated Debye temperature from the elastic properties
indicate that the average phonon frequency is very large in MgB compared
with other superconducting intermetallics and the exceptionally high in
this material can be explained through BCS mechanism only if phonon softening
occurs or the phonon modes are highly anisotropic. We identified a
doubly-degenerate quasi-two dimensional key-energy band in the vicinity of
along -A direction of BZ which play an important role in
deciding the superconducting behavior of this material. Based on this result,
we have searched for similar kinds of electronic feature in a series of
isoelectronic compounds such as BeB, CaB, SrB, LiBC and
MgBC and found that MgBC is one potential material from the
superconductivity point of view. There are contradictory experimental results
regarding the anisotropy in the elastic properties of MgB ranging from
isotropic, moderately anisotropic to highly anisotropic. In order to settle
this issue we have calculated the single crystal elastic constants for MgB
by the accurate full-potential method and derived the directional dependent
linear compressibility, Young's modulus, shear modulus and relevant elastic
properties. We have observed large anisotropy in the elastic properties. Our
calculated polarized optical dielectric tensor shows highly anisotropic
behavior even though it possesses isotropic transport property. MgB
possesses a mixed bonding character and this has been verified from density of
states, charge density and crystal orbital Hamiltonian population analyses
Test of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture with a charged scalar field and dyonic Kerr-Newman black holes
A thought experiment considered recently in the literature, in which it is
investigated whether a dyonic Kerr-Newman black hole can be destroyed by
overcharging or overspinning it past extremality by a massive complex scalar
test field, is revisited. Another derivation of the result that this is not
possible, i.e. the weak cosmic censorship is not violated in this thought
experiment, is given. The derivation is based on conservation laws, on a null
energy condition, and on specific properties of the metric and the
electromagnetic field of dyonic Kerr-Newman black holes. The metric is kept
fixed, whereas the dynamics of the electromagnetic field is taken into account.
A detailed knowledge of the solutions of the equations of motion is not needed.
The approximation in which the electromagnetic field is fixed is also
considered, and a derivation for this case is also given. In addition, an older
version of the thought experiment, in which a pointlike test particle is used,
is revisited. The same result, namely the non-violation of the cosmic
censorship, is rederived in a way which is simpler than in earlier works.Comment: 18 pages, LaTe
Study of the B^0 Semileptonic Decay Spectrum at the Upsilon(4S) Resonance
We have made a first measurement of the lepton momentum spectrum in a sample
of events enriched in neutral B's through a partial reconstruction of B0 -->
D*- l+ nu. This spectrum, measured with 2.38 fb**-1 of data collected at the
Upsilon(4S) resonance by the CLEO II detector, is compared directly to the
inclusive lepton spectrum from all Upsilon(4S) events in the same data set.
These two spectra are consistent with having the same shape above 1.5 GeV/c.
From the two spectra and two other CLEO measurements, we obtain the B0 and B+
semileptonic branching fractions, b0 and b+, their ratio, and the production
ratio f+-/f00 of B+ and B0 pairs at the Upsilon(4S). We report b+/b0=0.950
(+0.117-0.080) +- 0.091, b0 = (10.78 +- 0.60 +- 0.69)%, and b+ = (10.25 +- 0.57
+- 0.65)%. b+/b0 is equivalent to the ratio of charged to neutral B lifetimes,

We have studied the leptonic decay of the resonance into tau
pairs using the CLEO II detector. A clean sample of tau pair events is
identified via events containing two charged particles where exactly one of the
particles is an identified electron. We find . The result is consistent with

Measurement of the Decay Asymmetry Parameters in and
We have measured the weak decay asymmetry parameters (\aLC ) for two \LC\
decay modes. Our measurements are \aLC = -0.94^{+0.21+0.12}_{-0.06-0.06} for
the decay mode and \aLC = -0.45\pm 0.31 \pm
0.06 for the decay mode . By combining these
measurements with the previously measured decay rates, we have extracted the
parity-violating and parity-conserving amplitudes. These amplitudes are used to
