    Entropic force approach to noncommutative Schwarzschild black holes signals a failure of current physical ideas

    Recently, a new perspective of gravitational-thermodynamic duality as an entropic force arising from alterations in the information connected to the positions of material bodies is found. In this paper, we generalize some aspects of this model in the presence of noncommutative Schwarzschild black hole by applying the method of coordinate coherent states describing smeared structures. We implement two different distributions: (a) Gaussian and (b) Lorentzian. Both mass distributions prepare the similar quantitative aspects for the entropic force. Our study shows, the entropic force on the smallest fundamental unit of a holographic screen with radius r0r_0 vanishes. As a result, black hole remnants are unconditionally inert even gravitational interactions do not exist therein. So, a distinction between gravitational and inertial mass in the size of black hole remnant is observed, i.e. the failure of the principle of equivalence. In addition, if one considers the screen radius to be less than the radius of the smallest holographic surface at the Planckian regime, then one encounters some unusual dynamical features leading to gravitational repulsive force and negative energy. On the other hand, the significant distinction between the two distributions is conceived to occur around r0r_0, and that is worth of mentioning: at this regime either our analysis is not the proper one, or non-extensive statistics should be employed.Comment: 15 pages, 2 figures, new references added, minor revision, Title changed, to appear in EPJ Plu

    Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia Assisted Green Electrochemical Preparation of Silicon from Solid Silica in Calcium Chloride Melt

    A novel integrated cell with O2-|YSZ|Pt|O2(air) reference and counter electrodes was constructed using a short yttria-stabilized zirconia solid electrolyte (YSZ) tube. Combining with cyclic voltammetry and potentiostatic electrolysis methods, green electrochemical preparation of Si from solid SiO2 in CaCl2 melt at 1173 K was studied via an experimental apparatus containing the novel integrated cell under completely carbon-free conditions; the effect of electrolysis time on the morphology of the Si product was also investigated by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). The results show that the morphology of the product obtained from potentiostatic electrolysis at a low overpotential (− 1.6 V) undergoes an evolution from SiO2 raw powder with different sizes to aggregates of spherical particles and small particles with partial reduction, and then to Si nuclei, and finally to Si wires or flakes. The morphology of electrolytic products has little relation with that of SiO2 raw powder and may be controlled by applying different potentials. Furthermore, the longer the electrolysis time, the more the Si wires grow, and the higher the Si purity overall. It is feasible that the experimental apparatus without the sealed stainless steel reactor and any carbonaceous materials can be used to prepare Si from solid SiO2 in CaCl2 melt and release O2 gas at the same time

    Risk profiles and one-year outcomes of patients with newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation in India: Insights from the GARFIELD-AF Registry.

    BACKGROUND: The Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD-Atrial Fibrillation (GARFIELD-AF) is an ongoing prospective noninterventional registry, which is providing important information on the baseline characteristics, treatment patterns, and 1-year outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). This report describes data from Indian patients recruited in this registry. METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 52,014 patients with newly diagnosed AF were enrolled globally; of these, 1388 patients were recruited from 26 sites within India (2012-2016). In India, the mean age was 65.8 years at diagnosis of NVAF. Hypertension was the most prevalent risk factor for AF, present in 68.5% of patients from India and in 76.3% of patients globally (P < 0.001). Diabetes and coronary artery disease (CAD) were prevalent in 36.2% and 28.1% of patients as compared with global prevalence of 22.2% and 21.6%, respectively (P < 0.001 for both). Antiplatelet therapy was the most common antithrombotic treatment in India. With increasing stroke risk, however, patients were more likely to receive oral anticoagulant therapy [mainly vitamin K antagonist (VKA)], but average international normalized ratio (INR) was lower among Indian patients [median INR value 1.6 (interquartile range {IQR}: 1.3-2.3) versus 2.3 (IQR 1.8-2.8) (P < 0.001)]. Compared with other countries, patients from India had markedly higher rates of all-cause mortality [7.68 per 100 person-years (95% confidence interval 6.32-9.35) vs 4.34 (4.16-4.53), P < 0.0001], while rates of stroke/systemic embolism and major bleeding were lower after 1 year of follow-up. CONCLUSION: Compared to previously published registries from India, the GARFIELD-AF registry describes clinical profiles and outcomes in Indian patients with AF of a different etiology. The registry data show that compared to the rest of the world, Indian AF patients are younger in age and have more diabetes and CAD. Patients with a higher stroke risk are more likely to receive anticoagulation therapy with VKA but are underdosed compared with the global average in the GARFIELD-AF.     Somaclonal variation in winter wheat [Triticum aestivum L.]: frequency, occurrence and inheritance

    Plants were regenerated from immature embryo cultures of 35 winter wheat genotypes. General responses of regenerated plants were investigated and a total of 7142 R₂ spike lines from 1593 R₁ plants were assessed in the field for somaclonal variants in 1985/86, 1986/87 and 1987/88. Selected variants were studied for their possible genetic inheritance. From regenerated plantlets, 81% survived and 63% produced fertile plants. Forms with reduced plant height, length of spike and other morphological abnormalities were found in this progeny. Populations of R₁ plants were highly variable due mainly to the physiological disturbances resulting from the in vitro process. Overall somaclonal variation frequencies were 14.2% per plant basis and 5.3% per R₂ spike basis. The variants were similar in the three different R₂ generations with predominant variants being negative in plant height, maturity, awns, spike type and plant type. Both uniform R₂ variant families and spike lines were found in addition to the segregating variants which constituted the majority. On average, in a variant family or line, 18% and 14% of their component lines and plants were variants, respectively. Inheritability was demonstrated for the uniform variant families and spike lines as well as segregated variants. Of those 134 selections, about 70% were classified as inheritable. Both recessive and dominant gene mutations at one, two or three loci were evident in some variants as suggested by the segregating data

    Effects of vacuum sealing drainage on the treatment of cranial bone-exposed wounds in rabbits

    This study was designed to assess the efficacy of vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) on skull exposure wounds in rabbits and to investigate the underlying mechanism of the process. Full-thickness excisional circular wounds 2×2 cm with or without periosteum involvement were created in 88 New Zealand white rabbits (mean body weight: 3.0±0.65 kg). Animals were randomly divided into 4 groups: periosteum-intact wounds treated with traditional dressing (p+control), periosteum-intact wounds treated with VSD (p+VSD), periosteum-lacking wounds treated with traditional dressing (p–control) and periosteum-lacking wounds treated with VSD (p–VSD). The wounds treated with traditional dressing were covered with Vaseline gauze, while VSD treatment was accompanied with continuous –120 mmHg pressure. Finally, wound tissues were harvested for analysis of hydroxyproline content and histologic detection. VSD hastened the wound healing process significantly (P<0.05) compared to the corresponding control groups. VSD alleviated the inflammation reaction, accelerated re-epithelialization and facilitated the organization of collagen fibers into neat rows. During the wound healing process, the hydroxyproline content increased overtime [i.e., postoperative days (POD) 7, POD 10 and POD 15] in all four groups, and it peaked in the p+VSD group. VSD also promoted angiogenesis via increasing number and quality of collagen. We concluded that VSD can promote healing in bone-exposed wounds via increasing hydroxyproline content and vessel density, reducing inflammatory responses and generating ordered collagen arrangement

    Structure and Dielectric Characteristics of Continuous Composition Spread Ba1-xSrxTiO3 Thin Films by Combinatorial Pulsed Laser Deposition

    International audienceBa1ÀxSrxTiO3 (0 r x r1, BST-x) continuous composition spread thin films were grown on SrTiO3 substrates buffered by La0.9Sr1.1NiO4 (LSNO) electrodes using combinatorial pulsed laser deposition. The effects of Sr concentration on the structure and dielectric properties of the Au/BST-x/LSNO capacitors were investigated. X-ray diffraction patterns and reciprocal space maps revealed that both the in-plane and out-ofplane BST-x lattice parameters decreased with the increment of Sr content. Impedance measurements showed that the dielectric constant and tunability simultaneously changed with Sr concentration and reached the maximum at about x \textonequarter 0.5, which is comparable to that of BST-x individual thin films or bulks. Our results showed the large potential of combinatorial method in optimizing materials properties and even finding new materials
