Strategies for the multi-residue analysis of 100 pesticides by liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry

Analytical strategies for screening, quantitation and confirmation of a group of 100 pesticides in fruit and vegetable samples by LC-MS and LC-MS/MS were developed. The pesticides studied belong to different chemical families of herbicides, insecticides and fungicides. A selection of some degradation products was also included. Chromatographic separation was performed using a Zorbax Eclipse XDB-C8 column (150 mm × 4.6 mm and 5 µm particle size), and gradient elution with acetonitrile-water (both with 0.1% formic acid) as mobile phase. LC-MS/MS using highly-selective selected reaction monitoring (H-SRM) acquisition mode monitoring two transitions for each compound showed to be the most sensitive methodology. Quantitation was carried out using matrix-matched standard calibration and good linearity of response was demonstrated (r > 0.998). Limits of detection (by acquiring two transitions and with the ion-ratio requirements) ranged between 0.01 and 20 µg/kg were obtained. So, in general, the sensitivity achieved meets the maximum residue levels (MRLs) established by the European Union regulation for food monitoring programs. Pesticide confirmation was carried out following European Union guidelines. In order to prevent false-positives, further confirmatory strategies were proposed. LC-MS in highly-selective selected ion monitoring (H-SIM) mode with accurate mass measurement was used to obtain an orthogonal criterion (exact mass) for confirmation. Accurate mass measurements were always bellow 0.9 mDa for almost all pesticides studied (similar to those described with TOF instruments). A user reversed energy ramp (RER) product ion scan spectra library was generated by means of a data dependent analysis for routine library searching of pesticides. The combination of LC-MS/MS in H-SRM mode and the generation of the RER product ion scan spectra and library search were then used to achieve further confirmation on pesticide analysis. The LC-MS and LC-MS/MS strategies developed were successfully applied for the analysis and confirmation of pesticides in different types of fruit and vegetables samples, and examples of the screening, quantitation and confirmation of pesticides in these samples are shown in this work

Severity in the ICD-11 personality disorder model: Evaluation in a Spanish mixed sample

Severity is the main component of the ICD-11 personality disorder (PD) classification, but pertinent instruments have only recently been developed. We analyzed the psychometric properties of the ICD-11 Personality Disorder Severity scale (PDS-ICD-11) in a mixed sample of 726 community and clinical subjects. We also examined how the different components of the ICD-11 PD system ¿five trait domains, the borderline pattern specifier, and severity, all of them measured through self-reports¿ are interconnected and operate together. PDS-ICD-11 properties were adequate and similar to those of the original instrument. However, regressions and factor analyses showed a considerable overlap of severity with the five personality domains and the borderline specifier (72.6%). Bifactor modeling resulted in a general factor of PD (g-PD) that was not equivalent to severity nor improved criterion validity. The whole ICD-11 PD system, i.e., five personality domains, borderline, and severity, explained an average of 43.6% of variance of external measures of well-being, disability, and clinical problems, with severity contributing 4.8%. Suggestions to further improve the ICD-11 PD taxonomy include remodeling the present definition of severity to give more weight to the real-life consequences of traits

Estructura y evolución tectónica del sector oriental del margen continental cantábrico: resultados de los perfiles de sísmica multicanal MARCONI

El Golfo de Vizcaya se formó durante el Cretácico como consecuencia de la apertura del Océano Atlántico. La convergencia entre las placas Euroasiática e Ibérica durante el Cenozoico dio lugar al levantamiento de la cordillera pirenaico-cantábrica y al cierre parcial del Golfo de Vizcaya. La mayor parte de esta deformación tiene lugar en el margen Noribérico, haciendo de este área un lugar único para estudiar los estadios iniciales de la deformación de un margen pasivo. En el verano de 2003, el experimento sísmico MARCONI permitió adquirir 11 perfiles de sísmica de reflexión vertical profunda utilizando el buque Hespérides, lo que ha proporcionado una nueva imagen 3D de la estructura cortical del sector SE del Golfo de Vizcaya. Los datos muestran que la estructura de este margen se caracteriza por una espesa secuencia de sedimentos meso-cenozoicos (hasta 4 s TWT, hasta > 6 km) parcialmente deformada por cabalgamiento y pliegues asociados, vergentes al N. Se han diferenciado tres conjuntos sedimentarios separados por discordancias que se corresponden con las secuencias alpinas pre-, sin- y postectónicas. Los datos sísmicos muestran también la existencia de cuencas mesozoicas con evidencias de inversión tectónica y la existencia de fallas y estructuras laterales coincidiendo con los importantes cañones submarinos de dirección aproximada N-S. Teniendo tambien en cuenta otros datos geofísicos, la estructura general del sector SE del Golfo de Vizcaya se ha interpretado como una corteza continental adelgazada o transicional deslizada hacia el S por debajo del extremadamente abrupto y muy deformado talud continental Noribérico
