The Laboratoire Départemental du Lazaret has been studying these engravings for more than forty years: a large database describes the whole rocks and figures and is still filled with new findings. But such a large amount of data from a vast archaeological site needs efficient tools for its study, such as mapping the location of the rocks. Many improvements regarding the study of the carvings and their spatial distribution were made possible by the development of a web GIS: consulting the data is made easier and clearer with a web-mapping platform and specific tools. Filtering for choosing the data to display and automatically generated maps allow an overall view of the spatial distribution of the Marvels' engravings. Using both the IGN's Geoportal data and cartographic web libraries produced an efficient and complete web service for consulting and analyzing the engraved rocks of the Valley of Marvels. This one can be used for any area in the Mercantour Park, as long as new data are added to the databases

This paper concerns design thinking (Lawson, 1980), system thinking (systems theory) (von Bertalanffy, 1968), and system dynamics modeling as methodological platforms for analyzing large amounts of qualitative data and transforming it into quantitative mode. The aims of this article are to present an integral (mixed) research process including the design thinking process - a solution oriented approach applicable in the social sciences and humanities which enables to reveal causality in research on societal and behavioral issues. This integral approach is illustrated by an empirical pilot study from art/design-educational environment. © 2018 Eva Šviráková, Gabriel Bianchi, published by De Gruyter.Slovak research agency VEGA [2/0027/17

On the Iwasawa-Taniguchi effect of radio-quiet AGN

The existence of an anti-correlation between the Equivalent Width (EW) of the neutral narrow core of the iron Kalpha emission line and the 2-10 keV luminosity (the so-called `X-ray Baldwin' or `Iwasawa-Taniguchi' effect) has been debated in the last years. We aim at testing this claim on the largest catalogue of radio quiet AGN high-quality X-ray spectra ever published. The final sample comprises 157 objects. We search for a relation of the iron line EW not only with the X-ray luminosity, but also with the Black Hole mass, the Eddington ratio and the cosmological distance. The data presented here were analyzed homogeneously, all spectra are from the same instrument and with high Signal-to-Noise Ratio. A linear censored fit on the EW versus 2-10 keV luminosity is highly significant and yields log(EWFe)=(1.73±0.03)+(0.17±0.03)log(LX,44)\log(EW_{Fe}) = (1.73\pm0.03) + (-0.17\pm0.03) \log(L_{X,44}), where EWFeEW_{Fe} is the EW of the neutral iron Kalpha line in eV and Lx,44L_{x,44} is the 2-10 keV X-ray luminosity in units of 104410^{44} erg s1^{-1}. The anti-correlation with the Eddington ratio is also very significant, while no dependence of the iron EW on the BH mass is apparent.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomy and Astrophysics Letter

Demonios e imaginación en Giordano Bruno

With Giordano Bruno (1548-1600) we attend the recovery of Neoplatonic and Hermetic doctrines that lead to an animistic and dynamic understanding of nature, as well as an exaltation of man as who knows and acts on the world. In the context of a living and animated universe, Bruno needs mediations in the space between, on the one hand, the finite nature of man and, on the other hand, the infinite divinity explained in nature to support the magic theory of his Latin work. Accurately, the existence of demons in Neoplatonic systems comes to fulfill that purpose. I maintain that there is continuity between the demonological doctrine that Bruno presents in his Latin work and the metaphysics and cosmology of his Italian dialogues. This continuity is verified in the presence of two important philosophical categories of Bruneian thought which is in the demonology of De magia naturali (1590): the imagination and bonds. Thus, firstly, I will inquire about the reception of Neoplatonic doctrine in the demonology of the 15th and 16th centuries, from which Bruno develops the theoretical and philosophical framework of his demonological doctrine. Secondly, I will analyze the nature and function of the demons in De magia naturali and their relationship with the imagination and bonds in the Nolan philosophy.

The purpose of this work is to present the debate between two authors, the philosopher Walter Benjamin and the German jurist Carl Schmitt, on two concepts that will be central to contemporary political theory: Sovereign Power and the State of Exception. Get PDF
The implementation of the Difference Settlement Price (PLD, of the Portuguese Preço de Liquidação das Diferenças) on an hourly basis is scheduled for January 2021. This change is mainly motivated by the increasing presence of intermittent sources of generation in the energy matrix and aims to bring modernity to the Brazilian Electric Sector, guaranteeing a remuneration best suited to the new energy generation standard in Brazil. In this new pricing scenario, the source of photovoltaic solar generation stands out due to its period of greatest power injection corresponding to the period of greatest energy consumption in the country. This fact, combined with the potential that Brazil has due to its advantageous solar position, suggests an increase in the participation of the photovoltaic solar source in the Brazilian power generation park. With this in mind, this paper seeks to carry out an exploratory analysis on the impact of solar photovoltaic generation on the formation of PLD on an hourly basis. Analyzing the patterns of the hourly PLD, the systemic load curve and solar photovoltaic generation in a qualitative way, this paper provides a greater understanding of the dynamics of the hourly price
