Post-Abortion Syndrome and nursing approachesPost-Abortus Sendromu ve hemşirelik yaklaşımları
The relation between the life outputs, are associated especially with the mental health outputs at Abortus and the period that follows it. Post-Abortus Syndrome (PAS) is the concept of abortus trauma management that show up with the chronic or delayed symptoms as a result of the hidden emotional reactions that are experienced because of the post-abortus physical and psychological trauma. The individual, the systemic and the social factors that are existing at post-Abortus women affect PAS development. The interventions, in general, that are oriented towards mental problems of the individual at the PAS period, focused on the individual’s sufficiency and efficiency for coping with all the problems that are faced in her life. There is no any program that is developed for post-Abortus women or their family in our country. It is important for the individual who is diagnosed with PAS to receive consultancy from a health professional for her recovery from the period.
A new test for the homogeneity of inverse gaussian scale parameters based on computational approach test
In this paper, we focused on testing homogeneity of scale parameters of k Inverse Gaussian distributions (IGDs) since this distribution is one of the most common distribution for analyzing nonnegative right-skewed data. We have proposed a new test statistic based on the Computational Approach Test (CAT), which is a type of parametric bootstrap method, for testing homogeneity of scale parameters of k IGDs. Simulation results have been presented to compare the performances of the proposed method and existing methods such as the likelihood ratio test, modified likelihood ratio test and generalized likelihood ratio test in terms of type I error rate and power. The results showed that the proposed CAT is better than the others in terms of the type I error rates and powers in some cases
Investigation of Serum NO, ADMA and Apelin Levels in Thyroid Dysfunction
Thyroid gland diseases are among the most common endocrine diseases and still continue to be an important health problem especially in developing countries. It was aimed to investigate serum NO, ADMA and Apelin levels in patients with thyroid dysfunction. This study was conducted with 150 thyroid patients and 50 healthy subjects. Study subjects were divided into three groups; control (n=50), hyperthyroid ( n=75) and hypothyroid (n=75). Serum TSH, FT3, FT4 levels were measured by chemiluminescence method NO level were measured by spectrophotometric method, ADMA and apelin levels were measured by ELISA. Serum NO levels were higher in hypothyroid group than in hyperthyroid group, and the difference was statistically significant. Serum ADMA levels of the hyperthyroid group were significantly higher than the other two groups and the difference was statistically significant. The levels of serum apelin were statistically significantly higher in the hyperthyroid group than the other two groups. In patients with hyperthyroidism, ADMA and Apelin levels were higher, while NO level was lower. However, NO level was higher in patients with hypothyroidims than the other two groups. Apelin, which has been emphasized as a preventive and therapeutic agent particularly for the cardiovascular system, might have increased in hyperthyroid patients, regardless of NO, to protect cardiovascular system from possible adverse effects of ADMA.
STEM-Focused Activities to Support Student Learning in Primary School Science
This study examines the effect on student academic success through teaching the "Let's Know the Matter" grade 3 science unit accompanied by STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)-focused activities. The study group consisted of 24 third grade students studying in the 2019-2020 academic year. Teaching was done with a 5E (enter, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate) instructional model, and student opinions about the STEM activities were collected. A group pretest-posttest research design was used in which the "Let's Know the Matter Test (MT)" was administered at the beginning to measure the students' prior knowledge, and again at the end of the unit to determine what students had learned. Their opinions of the lessons taught with STEM-focused activities were collected using a semi-structured interview technique. Qualitative data were divided into appropriate categories under common themes. It was observed that the 5E instructional model contributed to their academic success. Also, it was found that their opinions about the lessons taught with STEM activities were quite positive. Based on the results obtained from the research, it is suggested that STEM activities be used in the teaching of other topics
TURKISH JOURNAL of ONCOLOGY A Study of Uro-oncology Patient Perceptions of Social Support and Hope Levels
OBJECTIVE The present study measured social support perceptions and hope levels of uro-oncology patients diagnosed with cancer and examined how they vary according to sociodemographic variables. METHODS Research was conducted on 143 uro-oncology patients in Konya, Turkey, using a sociodemographic information form, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and the Hope Scale. RESULTS Patient mean multidimensional perceived social support score was quite high at 62.14±14.99, and mean hope level score was 20.62±4.50. Hope level score was significantly higher in male patients. It was also higher for patients with dependents and for patients who believed their cancer was treatable. Perceived social support levels of patients with dependents and patients who believed their cancer was treatable were also significantly higher. CONCLUSION Hope levels of uro-oncology patients are affected positively by high levels of perceived social support. Women, patients with dependents, and patients who develop a positive attitude toward their cancer treatment were more hopeful than others
Main Genome Editing Tools: An Overview of the Literature, Future Applications and Ethical Questions
DergiPark: 962870tmsjThe popularity of genome editing technologies in the scientific community has been on the rise for several years. These technologies are slowly becoming a ray of hope for many patients with genetic diseases, thanks to their immense potential for clinical application. New genome editing tools are being rap- idly developed and introduced, while pre-existing ones are being perfected. In the process beginning with the completion of the Human Genome Project to the first clinical trials focusing on cancer immunotherapy and treating blindness, studies on genome editing have increased exponentially. The clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats system is a Nobel Prize-winning genome editing tool celebrated by many researchers and is often praised due to its ease of use, low cost, and efficiency compared to other acknowledged genome editing tools. This review aims to discuss the historical development, working mechanisms, present and future clinical applications of zinc-finger nucleases, transcription activator-like effector nucleases, clustered regularly inter- spaced short palindromic repeats, and prime editors, while presenting the ethical aspects of using these genome editing tools. Keywords: Zinc-finger nucleases, transcription activator-like effector nucleases, clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats, gene editin
Subklinik mastitisli Anadolu mandalarında epidermal büyüme faktörü değerlerinin (EGF) araştırılması
Subclinical mastitis (SCM) is a serious disease of farm animals. There are many studies on SCM that aim to make
the diagnosis practical, economical and reliable. It was the aim of the present study comparison of epidermal
growth factors (EGF) ratios in animals with and without subclinical mastitis as an indictor of SCM in Anatolian
water buffaloes. A study was carried out in a total of on 35 milk samples from 20 healthy and 15 mastitic
mammary quarters of clinical healthy and nonpregnant buffaloes. Samples were examined using California
mastitis test (CMT) as cow side test to detect of SCM before being transferred to the laboratory. Microbiological
culture was also performed to determine bacterial contamination. Level of EGF and somatic cell count (SCC) was
determined in all samples. As a result of the comparison of the EGF concentration between the SCM (+) and
SCM (-) groups, the SCM (+) group was found to be higher than the SCM (-) group. EGF tests may be a useful
tool in determining subclinical mastitis.
EGF testlerinin subklinik
mastitisin belirlenmesinde yararlı bir araç olabileceği kanısına varılmıştır
PULMONARY SLING AS A RARE CAUSE OF RECURRENT WHEEZING
Pulmonary vascular sling is a rare congenital condition in which the left pulmonary artery arises from the right pulmonary artery forming a sling around the trachea causing tracheal compression. We report a 13-month-old male patient with pulmonary vascular sling who was referred to our hospital because of recurrent wheezing and frequent lower respiratory tract infections. Barium-esophagography showed an indentation at the level of the anterior lateral segment of esophagus and thorax magnetic resonance imaging and angiography confirmed the diagnosis of pulmonary vascular sling. Relief of symptoms was achieved immediately after surgery. Therefore, in children with recurrent wheezing and lower respiratory tract infections, pulmonary vascular sling should be considered in the differential diagnosis
Tendon Interposition and Ligament Reconstruction with ECRL Tendon in the Late Stages of Kienböck’s Disease: A Cadaver Study
Background. The optimal surgical treatment for Kienböck’s disease with stages IIIB and IV remains controversial. A cadaver study was carried out to evaluate the use of coiled extensor carpi radialis longus tendon for tendon interposition and a strip obtained from the same tendon for ligament reconstruction in the late stages of Kienböck’s disease. Methods. Coiled extensor carpi radialis longus tendon was used to fill the cavity of the excised lunate, and a strip obtained from this tendon was sutured onto itself after passing through the scaphoid and the triquetrum acting as a ligament to preserve proximal row integrity. Biomechanical tests were carried out in order to evaluate this new ligamentous reconstruction. Results. It was biomechanically confirmed that the procedure was effective against axial compression and distributed the upcoming mechanical stress to the distal row. Conclusion. Extensor carpi radialis longus tendon has not been used for tendon interposition and ligament reconstruction in the treatment of this disease before. In view of the biomechanical data, the procedure seems to be effective for the stabilization of scaphoid and carpal bones
