Self determination, embodied languages and landscapes in women's video art.

This paper addresses how, since the 1960s to the present, part of women's video art has broken the traditional representation of women’s body and proposed new forms of recording women's images, explicit or symbolic, using body part close-ups, and not sparing any efforts to ensure the prevention of the cataloguing of women’s bodies according to normative categories, such as gender, race and age, and in this way challenging the Western representation codes that objectify women. The methodology employed had as its primary purpose the examination of the association existing between the micro-sociological level of body gestures and performances in women's videos and the macro-sociological level of social forces such as the dimensions of gender and sexuality. This study concluded that narratives of identity and self-determination are present in women's video pieces contributing to women's empowerment through visual discourses that could possibly point to the production of new signs and symbols, new values and models, but also for the formation of new types of social roles and even a new type of interpersonal relationships

Digitálias: a Women Art Collective in the Fight Against Gender Violence Through Co-Creative Net Art

In this article, we present and discuss the ongoing co-creative net art and transmedia labs with Digitálias, a female collective in the fight against gender violence. Since 2018, we have been organising art labs with the Associação Ser Mulher (ASM), based in Évora, aimed at female victims of intimate partner violence living in a Shelter House, as well as ASM technicians. The labs are part of an exploratory research whose main aim is to analyse how the community artistic practice of net art can play a social role as a tool for empowerment, self-esteem, and identity, using an arts-based action research methodology through the creation, production, and dissemination of practical artistic projects (project-based research), and using women from shelters who are victims of domestic violence as a case study

Outsourced information: identity and unpaid work in the age of digital journalism

The Age of Information has been extensively studied by Castells, in the late 1980’s. Several of the implications discussed by this author at the time are observable nowadays, specially the ones concerning the tendencies to precariousness that labor activities related to information production present. Due to an increasingly accentuated demand for information, communication companies (such as TV stations and printed and online newspapers) have developed outsourcing methods of production of content. Said methods consist, basically, on the recruitment of a literate elite of professionals, originated from other countries, to produce quality “local news”. In this article, we analyze a concrete case of outsourcing of information, performed by a French blog platform that mainly recruits contributors from Africa. Based on the analysis of the interviews carried out with ten of these bloggers, we show, albeit in an exploratory way, the emerging conflicts that the process of outsourced production of information generates. During the discussion of this subject, we mobilized concepts developed within the field of sociology of work and other recent theoretical productions on the precariousness of informational work

A hierarquia dos tratados de direitos humanos e a convenção sobre os direitos das pessoas com deficiência

Trata-se de monografia que visa o estudo acerca da hierarquia atribuída aos tratados de direitos humanos no Estado brasileiro, especialmente à Convenção sobre os Direitos das Pessoas com Deficiência, único tratado que possui equivalência à Emenda Constitucional. Os tratados de direitos humanos surgiram com o desenvolvimento do Direito Internacional dos Direitos Humanos e objetivam assegurar, em uma esfera internacional, os direitos e deveres devidos por todos e garantidos a todos. Por sua importância, vez que acordam sobre indivíduos e não mais sobre Estados, correntes e questionamentos surgiram quanto à hierarquia que a eles deveria ser atribuída, se constitucional, supraconstitucional, supralegal ou infraconstitucional. A Emenda Constitucional no 45/2004 buscou solucionar a controvérsia que cercava a hierarquia desses tratados, introduzindo ao art. 5º, o parágrafo 3º, o qual estabeleceu que tratados de direitos humanos aprovados com quórum de Emenda Constitucional, seriam a ela equivalentes. Porém, outros questionamentos afloraram, como por exemplo, qual seria a hierarquia dos tratados não aprovados com o referido quórum. Em meio a esses conflitos, o Supremo Tribunal Federal atribui aos tratados que não alcançaram equivalência à Emenda à Constituição, a supralegalidade, gerando novos questionamentos acerca desse sistema misto. Nesse cenário, é aprovado o primeiro e único tratado de direitos humanos com status de norma constitucional, a partir do qual veremos, na prática, os efeitos de ter normas com equivalência à Emendas Constitucionais e, portanto, que passam a reger o ordenamento jurídico interno, vez que são ditames constitucionais
