Involvement of opioid system and TRPM8/TRPA1 channels in the antinociceptive effect of Spirulina platensis

anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and analgesic properties. Herein, we investigated the antinociceptive
effects of Spirulina in different rodent behavior models of inflammatory pain. Male Swiss mice were
treated with Spirulina (3–300 mg/kg, p.o.), indomethacin (10 mg/kg, p.o.), or vehicle (0.9% NaCl
10 mL/kg). Behavioral tests were performed with administration of acetic acid (0.6%, i.p.), formalin
2.7% (formaldehyde 1%, i.pl.), menthol (1.2 µmol/paw, i.pl.), cinnamaldehyde (10 nmol/paw, i.pl.),
capsaicin (1.6 µg/paw, i.pl.), glutamate (20 µmol/paw, i.pl.), or naloxone (1 mg/kg, i.p.). The
animals were also exposed to the rotarod and open field test to determine possible effects of Spirulina
on locomotion and motor coordination. The quantitative phytochemical assays exhibited that
Spirulina contains significant concentrations of total phenols and flavonoid contents, as well as it
showed a powerful antioxidant effect with the highest scavenging activity. Oral administration of
Spirulina completely inhibited the abdominal contortions induced by acetic acid (ED50 = 20.51 mg/kg).
Spirulina treatment showed significant inhibition of formalin-induced nociceptive behavior during the
inflammatory phase, and the opioid-selective antagonist markedly blocked this effect. Furthermore,
our data indicate that the mechanisms underlying Spirulina analgesia appear to be related to its ability
to modulate TRMP8 and TRPA1, but not by TRPV1 or glutamatergic system. Spirulina represents
an orally active and safe natural analgesic that exhibits great therapeutic potential for managing
inflammatory pain disorders
Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons May Contibute for Prostate Cancer Progression
Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer affecting men in the Western world. Risk factors include ageing, genetics, recurrent inflammation, lifestyle and diet intake, related to an increase of oxidative stress. Prostate cancer risk is also associated with exposure to carcinogen such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), originated from the incomplete combustion of carbon-containing fuels like tobacco, wood, diesel, or charbroiled meat. Although numerous studies have associated the effect of PAHs to tumour development, few investigations have associated its effects to cancer progression. Considering that prostate cancer patients don’t die from localized prostate cancer but from advanced disease, we are interested in investigating whether PAHs may potentially influence prostate cancer progression and how this could be related to an increase in oxidative stress. Likewise we evaluated the effect of PAHs (pyrene, benzo(a) pyrene, chrysene and benzo(k)fluoranthene) on cell growth and in the expression of molecules involved in cancer me- tastization such as the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and hypoxia inducible factor (HIF) using prostate- derived cell lines from localized adenocarcinoma (HPV10), bone metastasis (PC3) and in non-neoplastic prostate epi- thelium cells. Moreover, we evaluated oxidative stress parameters, assessing reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and reduced glutathione content. Our data clearly demonstrates that PAHs can stimulate cell growth, particularly in lo- calized cancer cells and induce an increase of VEGF and HIF expression. These results are concomitant with an increase of ROS production, suggesting that PAHs exposure may participate in prostate cancer progression, in part, due to an increase of ROS. Therefore this study suggests that PAHs exposure should be avoided to prevent prostate cancer progression
Alternative Tourism and Shared Accommodation Motivation: a cross-national study
CouchSurfing is a non-profit internet site through which people offer or get free lodging in the host’s home. The aim of the current article is to compare the various motivations of sharing behaviours occurring amongst Brazilian and Portuguese when guests, as far as the use of Couchsurfing as an alternative tourism activity is concerned. The current study offers a qualitative, exploratory and comparative approach addressing Brazilian and Portuguese guests. The results rely on 18 in-depth interviews with ten Brazilian and eight Portuguese guests. The content analysis was carried out based on theme categorization defined before data collection. As far as the similarities between the guests from both countries is concerned, the expectations of sharing cultural experiences and establishing social bonds, as well as the need to trust the host indicated the motivation to travel using the platform - this included both parties, the Portuguese and the Brazilians alike. Conversely, only the Brazilians indicated the motivation of use as means of reducing travel costs and meeting utilitarian needs such as sleeping. The study contributes to the sharing economy literature as it identifies that the Degree of Identification amongst the Peers, Perceived Risks, and Value Co-creation Perception are also elements that motivate sharing tourism
Estresse neonatal: os impactos do ruído e da superestimulação auditiva para o recém-nascido
O advento da UTI neonatal representou um avanço significativo para a medicina e para a humanidade, pois possibilitou a sobrevivência de bebês prematuros ou com algum tipo de problema de saúde cujo tratamento intensivo é necessário para a sua recuperação. Porém, sabe-se pelos estudos já realizados que alguns fatores podem interferir no desenvolvimento desses bebês, sendo o ruído um deles, já que ocasiona o estresse e a dor neonatal. O objetivo desse estudo foi verificar se os profissionais que atuam na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal são conscientizados a respeito da relação existente entre a dor neonatal com os ruídos produzidos neste ambiente. Foi realizado um estudo quantitativo, descritivo com todos os funcionários da Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal do Hospital Santa Catarina de Uberlândia. Utilizou-se um questionário objetivo com perguntas fechadas, direcionadas ao cuidado e rotina neonatal. Os dados foram tabulados e analisados pelo programa Biostatistic 5.0. Os resultados apontam que os profissionais de saúde que trabalham na unidade neonatal têm consciência sobre seu papel na geração e também cessação dos ruídos e por isso valorizam os programas de orientação e rotinas no cuidado com o bebê
Inserção Social e Internacionalização da Formação de Professores do Nordeste:: avaliação das produções de 2010 a 20201
The study aims to understand the impacts and perspectives of the academic productions in Northeast concerning the Teacher area Training area related to social insertion and internationalization in the context of resistance. Through a mixed-type review with emphasis on an integrative format, there were 196 papers selected from the Scielo databases, Dissertations and Theses and Annals of Events of ANPED and EPEN. The results indicate that the Teacher Training area in the Northeast has a large number of papers in the Social Insertion Dimension, but only 2.5% in the Internationalization Dimension. The subtopics Initial and Continuing Training presented many productions in the teaching degree area and several papers in the health area had been identified as well.O estudo tem por objetivo compreender os impactos e perspectivas das produções do Nordeste na área Formação de professores relacionados à inserção social e à internacionalização no contexto de resistência. Por meio de uma revisão do tipo mista com ênfase em formato integrativa, tivemos 196 trabalhos selecionados das bases Scielo, Dissertações e Teses e dos Anais de Eventos da ANPED e EPEN. Os resultados indicam que a área de Formação de Professores no Nordeste tem grande número de trabalhos na Dimensão Inserção Social, mas apenas 2,5% na Dimensão Internacionalização. Os subtemas Formação Inicial e Continuada apresentaram muitas produções da área da Licenciatura e se identificaram vários trabalhos da área da saúde também
ASPECTOS NUTRICIONALES RELACIONADOS CON LA HIPERTENSIÓN: UN ESTUDIO EXPLORATORIO, DESARROLLADO EN LA EDUCACIÓN BÁSICA DEL SISTEMA PÚBLICO DE BOTUCATU
A hipertensão arterial é uma doença crônica com grande incidência e morbimortalidade no mundo moderno. A hipertensão não tem cura, mas existem tratamentos medicamentosos e não-medicamentosos. Este último baseia-se na alimentação saudável e mudança do estilo de vida. O objetivo foi investigar o conhecimento dos alunos do Ensino Fundamental (6ª a 8ª série) sobre os conceitos de hipertensão e alimentação saudável. Os dados analisados foram obtidos através de questionário com nove perguntas sobre esses temas, o qual foi aplicado na escola estadual João de Queiroz em Rubião Júnior, Distrito de Botucatu. Além disso, foi feita uma degustação (teste triangular) de purê de batata com 3 amostras, sendo: (A) sem sal, (B) normal e (C) com muito sal. A análise dos dados revelou que os alunos demonstram falta de conhecimento sobre a doença, além de que grande parte (70%) gosta mais de comida salgada. Os resultados levaram à produção de uma cartilha educativa relacionando hipertensão e nutrição, na tentativa de disseminar informações sobre a doença e estimular a mudança para hábitos saudáveis na comunidade alvo do presente estudo.Hypertension is a chronic disease with high incidence and elevated mortality rates in the modern world. Hypertension cannot be cured, but its control is based on both drug-based and non-drug approaches. The latter involves a healthy diet and lifestyle changes. The objective was to investigate the knowledge of 189 elementary school students (6th to 8th series) concerning the concepts of hypertension and healthy eating. Data were obtained by means of a questionnaire with nine questions on these topics, which was applied in the João de Queiroz state school in Rubião Junior, District of Botucatu. In addition, a tasting (triangular test) of mashed potato was made with 3 samples, as follows: (A) no salt, (B) normal salt, and (C) too much salt. Data analysis revealed that the students demonstrated a lack of knowledge about the disease, and most (70%) of the subjects showed a greater preference for food with higher salt. The results led to the production of an educational booklet relating hypertension to nutrition, in an attempt to disseminate information about the disease and encourage the adoption of healthy habits in the target community of this study.La hipertensión arterial es una enfermedad crónica de gran incidencia, con altas tasas de mortalidad en el mundo moderno. La hipertensión no se puede curar, pero su control se basa en las alternativas de drogas sin drogas. Este último tratamiento se basa en la dieta saludable y en cambios de estilo de vida. El objetivo fue investigar el conocimiento, de 189 alumnos de primaria y secundaria, respecto a los conceptos de hipertensión y alimentación saludable. Los datos analizados fueron obtenidos a través de un cuestionario conteniendo diez preguntas sobre esos temas, que se aplicó en la escuela estatal João de Queiroz en Rubião Júnior, Distrito de Botucatu. Participaron estudiantes de primaria (6ª a 8ª serie). Además, se hizo una degustación (prueba triangular) de puré de papas con 3 muestras: (A) sin sal, (B) normal y (C) con exceso de sal. The effects of ILFN-exposure on voice acoustic parameters of commercial cabin crewmembers
Background: Long-term exposure to infrasound and low frequency noise (ILFN <500 Hz, including
infrasound) can lead to the development of vibroacoustic disease (VAD). VAD is a systemic pathology
characterized by the abnormal growth of extracellular matrices in the absence of inflammatory processes,
namely of collagen and elastin, both of which are abundant in the basement membrane zone of the vocal
folds. ILFN-exposed workers include pilots, cabin crewmembers, restaurant workers, ship machinists
and, in previous studies, even though they did not present vocal symptoms, ILFN-exposed workers
had significant different voice acoustic patterns (perturbation and temporal measures) when compared
with normative population. Study Aims: The present study investigates the effects of age and years of
occupational ILFN-exposure on voice acoustic parameters of 37 cabin crewmembers: 12 males and 25
females. Specifically, the goals of this study are to: 1) Verify if acoustic parameters change over the age
and years of ILFN-exposure and 2) Determine if there is any interaction between age and years of ILFNexposure
on voice acoustic parameters of crewmembers. Materials and Methods: Spoken phonatory tasks
were recorded with a C420III PP AKG head-worn microphone and a DA-P1 Tascam DAT. Acoustic analyses
were performed using KayPENTAX Computer Speech Lab and Multi-Dimensional Voice Program. Acoustic
parameters included speaking fundamental frequency, perturbation measures (jitter, shimmer and harmonicto-
noise ratio), temporal measures (maximum phonation time and s/z ratio) and voice tremor frequency.
Results: One-way ANOVA analysis revealed that as the number of ILFN-exposure years increased male
cabin crewmembers presented significant different shimmer values of /i/ as well as tremor frequency of
/u/. Females presented significantly different jitter % of /i, a, O/ (p <0.05). Lastly, Two-way ANOVA analysis
revealed that for females, there was a significant interaction between age and occupational ILFN-exposure
for voice acoustic parameters, namely for jitter’s mean for /a, O/ and shimmer’s (%) mean for /a, i/ (p <0.05).
Discussion and Conclusion: These perturbation measure patterns may be indicative of histological
changes within the vocal folds as a result of ILFN-exposure. The results of this study suggest that voice
acoustic analysis may be an important tool for confirming ILFN-induced health effects

Published by American Chemical SocietyThe unique physicochemical properties of ionic liquids (ILs) attracted interest in their application as lubricants of micro/nano-electromechanical systems. This work evaluates the feasibility of using the protic ionic liquids [4-picH][HSO4], [4-picH][CH3SO3], [MIMH][HSO4], and [MIMH][CH3SO3] and the aprotic ILs [C6mim][HSO4] and [C6mim][CH3SO3] as additives to model lubricant poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG200) to lubricate silicon surfaces. Additives based on the cation [4-picH]+ exhibited the best tribological performance, with the optimal value for 2% [4-picH][HSO4] in PEG200 (w/w). Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of the first stages of adsorption of the ILs at the glass surface were performed to portray the molecular behavior of the ILs added to PEG200 and their interaction with the silica substrate. For the pure ILs at the solid substrates, the MD results indicated that weak specific interactions of the cation with the glass interface are lost to accommodate the larger anion in the first contact layer. For the PEG200 + 2% [4-picH][HSO4] system, the formation of a more compact protective film adsorbed at the glass surface is revealed by a larger trans population of the dihedral angle -O(R)-C-C-O(R)- in PEG200, in comparison to the same distribution for the pure model lubricant. Our findings suggest that the enhanced lubrication performance of PEG200 with [4-picH][HSO4] arises from synergistic interactions between the protic IL and PEG200 at the adsorbed layer.publishersversionpublishe
