Alchemical myths and hermetic representations in the feminine imaginary of salt
Drawing from the Imaginary Studies through the prism of “mythodology”, introduced by Gilbert Durand in Figures mythiques et visages de l’oeuvre (1979), this article addresses the female transmutation of the environment as an allegory, where salt and water have been associated throughout history to the female body. Therefore, the current study aims to elucidate how landscape and women are comparable in the junction of spatial, mythological and socio-cultural elements which, from a symbolic point of view, nowadays contribute to the definition of the woman-water archetype in a hermetic dimension of the saline landscape
De los jardines de Ouagadougou a las Salinas de la Malahá: hacía el modelo de un paisaje sociocultural y multidisciplinar
Abstract. Both the garden and the salt pans are defined as landscape constructions conceived from multiple interrelations and natural, social and cultural transformations. Both share a symbolic model in terms of their spatial arrangement, which obeys geometric patterns that give them a great historical, literary, landscape and ecological value. Not only is an anthropic action exerted on their landscapes, but also a network of cultural images is being built. Thus, the present research proposes to elucidate, from a multidisciplinary approach, the socio-cultural relations that exist in two in two models of urban landscape, such as the gardens of Ouagadougou, in Grenoble (France) and the salt mines of La Malahá (Spain). The literary evidence underlying these gardens - one real and the other allegorical - allows us to identify in both a purely feminine dimension, as well as to claim their recognition as "cultural landscapes" through the alpine mythology and the classical poetry of Al-Andalus.
Susceptibility of Several Northeastern Conifers to Fusarium circinatum and Strategies for Biocontrol
Producción CientíficaFusarium circinatum, the causal of pine pitch canker disease (PPC), is now considered among
the most important pathogens of Pinaceae in the world. Although in Europe PPC is only established
in the Iberian Peninsula, the potential endangered areas cover over 10 million hectares under the
current host distribution and climatic conditions. It is therefore a priority to test the susceptibility of
those species and their provenances, within Central and Northern Europe and find biological control
agents (BCAs) against the disease. In this study, the susceptibility of Pinus sylvestris, P. mugo and
Picea abies Romanian provenances to F. circinatum was tested using three inoculum doses. In parallel,
the potential use of Trichoderma atroviride and Trichoderma viride as BCAs against F. circinatum was also
tested. This study has demonstrated, for the first time, the susceptibility of P. mugo to F. circinatum.
Likewise, the susceptibility of P. abies was also confirmed. The fact that the Romanian provenance of
P. sylvestris has not been susceptible to F. circinatum suggests genetic resistance as a potential tool to
manage the disease. This, together with the apparent effectiveness of Trichoderma species as BCAs,
seems to indicate that an integrated management of the disease might be feasible.European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST Action FP1406 PINESTRENGTH)Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad (projects AGL2012-39912 / AGL2015-69370-R)Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (grant SFRH/BPD/122928/2016

The influence of social bonds, emotions and personality on punishment attitudes.
From an evolutionary point of view, different emotions such as jealousy and attitudes of trust seem to have influenced close and affective bonds, and cooperative behaviors respectively, both of them key pillars that contribute to guaranteeing, at different levels, the maintenance of the social bonds that form human groups. However, although punishment attitudes have been widely used in the analysis of the evolution of cooperation, they does not seem very relevant to explain cooperation and, therefore, the motivations that induce punishment attitudes remains unclear.
In this study, carried out on 174 participants, questionnaires and economic games were combined, the former to try to know aspects of the participants’ personality that may affect their interpersonal relationships, and the latter to try to induce different emotions and punishment behaviors, which allow us to advance to know more about the factors that promote these punishing attitudes.
The results of the study provide different information about the emotions that are generated when presenting an unfavorable situation for the individual in different types of relationships, about how these induced emotions are related to each other and to different types of personality, and about what effect all these combinations may have to cause punishing attitudes. We try to test the hypothesis that punishment will depend on the type of relationship, which generates different emotional levels that, together with individuals' personality, will explain the different levels of punishment.Universidad de Málaga. Effect of mycoviruses on the virulence of Fusarium circinatum and laccase activity
Producción CientíficaLaccase enzymes (benzenediol: oxygen oxidoreductase, EC 1.10.3.2) play a major role in the degradation of phenolic compounds such as lignin. They are common in fungi and have been suggested to participate in host colonization by pathogenic fungi. Putative mycoviruses have recently been isolated from the causal agent of pine pitch canker disease, Fusarium circinatum Nirenberg & O'Donell. In this study, the effects of single and double mycoviral infections on laccase activity, growth rate and pathogenicity were investigated in fourteen F. circinatum strains. Extracellular laccase activity was analyzed by the Bavendamm test, image processing and a spectrophotometric method. Mycelial growth, in vivo pathogenicity and seedling survival probability were also determined in Monterrey pine (Pinus radiata D. Don) seedlings. The findings showed that (i) mycelial growth of isolates from the same fungal population was homogeneous, (ii) the presence of mycovirus appears to increase the virulence of fungal isolates, (iii) co-infection (with two mycoviruses) caused cryptic effects in fungal isolates, and (iv) laccases embody a possible auxiliary tool in fungal infection. The prospects for biocontrol, the adaptive role of F. circinatum mycoviruses and the importance of laccase enzymes in host colonization are discussed.Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad (Project AGL2012-39912
Are Spanish TTOs Prepared to Innovation in a COVID Context?
The analysis of the characteristics of Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) is particularly
important as they constitute mediating units in the relationship between the market and university
research. They are responsible for the transfer and exploitation of knowledge arising in the university
context. Previous studies have been inconclusive as to the importance that the size, professionalisation
or age of TTOs might have on the transfer process. However, the need to explore new markets,
recognise new opportunities and identify potential customers points to the importance of TTOs
having a dual exploitative and exploratory orientation and an extensive relational network. More
recent research in the literature, based on ambidexterity and network theory, points to the impact
that these variables could have on change management and innovation in uncertain and changing
environments, such as those faced by TTOs in the current pandemic context. Therefore, the aim of this
paper is to analyse whether Spanish TTOs, due to their ambidextrous orientation at the organisational
and individual level, and their relational network with academic and market actors, are prepared
to promote innovation in a COVID-19 context. Based on a cluster analysis of 29 Spanish TTOs, our
results show that just a few of the Spanish TTOs surveyed would be prepared, from the perspective
of ambidexterity and their relational capital, to promote innovation in a COVID-19 context. In
conclusion, Spanish TTOs and their employees should focus more on ambidexterity and building
extensive relational capital so that, through mentoring, training, incubation or the provision of
various resources, they can help academics take advantage of the innovation opportunities offered
by the changing and uncertain environment. This work has been co-financed by the 2014-2020 ERDF Operational Programme and by the Department of Economy, Knowledge, Enterprise and Universities of the Regional Government of Andalusia. The impact of human, social, and psychological capital on academic spin-off internationalization
Academic spin-offs (ASOs) are companies with a strong international vocation for two main reasons: first, they market their products and services in global market niches to profit from their high investment in R&D, characteristic of the sectors in which ASOs operate; and second, as a consequence of the international training and experience and of the international networks that the founding academic entrepreneurs of these companies tend to enjoy, derived from their scientific activity. Despite this natural tendency to internationalize, ASOs and specifically the founding academic entrepreneurs of these companies present certain difficulties in accessing resources for internationalization and in achieving credibility in foreign markets due to their university origins. Based on the resource-based view (RBV), and network theory (NT), this work proposes that the human capital, the social capital, and the psychological capital of the academic entrepreneur could compensate for these obstacles, providing key resources for the internationalization of their companies. The results contribute to the RBV, NT, and academic entrepreneurship and internationalization literature since they show that human capital, in terms of the international experience and training of the academic entrepreneur, their networks of relationships with international academic agents, and their psychological capital, are all antecedents of the internationalization of ASOs. However, the networks of academic entrepreneur relationships with international market agents appear to be irrelevant in the process of international expansion of ASOs.Open Access funding provided thanks to the CRUE-CSIC agreement with Springer Nature.
