    ACEITAÇÃO E SEGMENTAÇÃO DO MERCADO DE PRODUTOS DERIVADOS DA CARNE DE PERU

    Nos últimos anos, a avicultura brasileira tem apresentado grande crescimento na produção e a criação de perus acompanha - de certa forma - este desempenho. Como o frango de corte, grande parte da produção de carne de peru é exportada. Todavia, o frango de corte tem o consumo no mercado interno bastante consolidado, o que já não ocorre com o consumo de derivados de peru, que se apresenta bastante baixo, apesar do crescimento nos últimos cinco anos. A presente pesquisa analisou a estratégia de segmentação do mercado dos produtos à base de carne de peru, o comportamento de compra baseado nos preços desses produtos no varejo vis-à-vis os dos derivados de frango e as possíveis causas do baixo consumo per capita brasileiro. A pesquisa foi realizada em três supermercados do interior de São Paulo. Observou-se uma ampla adoção da estratégia de segmentação de derivados de peru, mas os preços ofertados ao consumidor, em sua maioria, apresentaram-se significativamente mais elevados em relação ao preço dos derivados de frango. Também foi constatado que em alguns produtos há diferença na preferência entre homens e mulheres, mas na maioria das vezes o comportamento de consumo é bastante semelhante. As principais hipóteses para as causas do baixo consumo per capita identificadas foram: preço relativamente elevado, pouca divulgação dos produtos e sazonalidade de alguns derivados. --------------------------------------------------In recent years, the Brazilian poultry production has largely grown. The turkey production somehow follows this performance. A large amount of turkey meat is exported, just like the poultry. However, the poultry meat consumption is very well consolidated in the domestic market, what does not occur with turkey derivates consumption, which is very low, despite the growth in the last five years. This research analyzed the market segmentation strategy of products made of turkey meat, as well as the purchase behavior based on prices of these products vis-à-vis prices of poultry derivates and the possible reasons that explain the low per capita consumption in Brazil. The research was conducted in three supermarkets of the State of São Paulo. A large adoption of the segmentation strategy was observed for turkey derivates, but most prices were significantly higher than poultry ones. It was also observed that there is a difference in men and women’s preferences for some products, but most of the times the consumption behavior is very similar.     Medida da infestação domiciliar por Triatoma sordida

    Procurou-se verificar a viabilidade do uso de abrigos artificiais de madeira tipo "calha" para diagnóstico de infestação domiciliar por Triatoma sordida. Foi observada uma amostra de 45 casas e 27 anexos, em duas localidades pertencentes ao municpio de Guaíra na região Norte do Estado de São Paulo (Brasil), durante um período de 7 meses, a partir de outubro de 1972. Os resultados foram considerados favoráveis ao uso dos abrigos nos anexos e desfavoráveis ao uso nas casas. Apresentam-se possíveis razões para esta última situação.In order to know if it is possible the use of wooden boxes in diagnosing house infestation by Triatoma sordida, a sample of 45 houses and 27 annexes was observed during seven months, beginning in October 1972, in two sites in the county of Guaíra, in the Northern region of the State of S. Paulo (Brazil). The results were considered good for using the boxes in out buildings, but not so for the houses; some possible reasons for this last failure are presented

    Introdução: a Doença Inflamatória Pélvica (DIP) é uma infecção no trato genital feminino causada por microorganismos como Chlamydia trachomatis e Neisseria gonorrhoeae, principalmente. Metodologia: devido à grande incidência dessa doença em todo o mundo, foi feita uma revisão de literatura com estratégias de seleção de artigos em várias bases de dados. Resultados e discussão: a DIP pode ser causada por vários patógenos, com cada um tendo seu mecanismo de infecção diferente, sendo acometimentos primários ou secundários a respostas imunes. Dessa forma, ela se apresenta em formas aguda, infraclínica e crônica segundo seus patógenos, mas seguindo sintomas comuns. Essa doença gera complicações sérias decorrentes da salpingite, sendo associada, principalmente, a fatores de risco. É uma doença com o diagnóstico clínico, juntamente com exames físicos, podendo se estender a exames laboratoriais e de imagem para realização de diagnóstico diferencial com outras doenças.  Já o tratamento segue um padrão, segundo as Diretrizes de Tratamento de Doenças Sexualmente Transmissíveis, podendo ser ambulatorial ou hospitalar no geral com antibióticos que abrangem tanto a mulher quanto o parceiro acometido, podendo evoluir para casos cirúrgicos. A prevenção de aparecimento é essencialmente por exames de esfregaços vaginais e, principalmente, por educação sexual. Conclusão: a doença tem como principais causas as IST’s, sendo a deficiência na educação sexual um ponto de maior agravo. Portanto, com a conscientização e correta prevenção, a diminuição da doença pode ser possível

    Different sources and levels of selenium on humoral immunity of broiler chickens

    The use of organic trace minerals is getting strength and is an alternative to increase production and improve other characteristics such as humoral immunity. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different levels and sources of selenium (Se) on humoral immunity of broilers. A six-week research was conducted using 1440 one-day-old males broiler chickens. The experimental design was randomized with six experimental diets (A: 0.15mg kg(-1) inorganic (inorg.); B: 0.15mg kg(-1) organic; C: 0.15mg kg(-1) inorg. + organic; D: 0.45mg kg(-1) inorganic; E: 0.45mg kg(-1) organic; F: 0.45mg kg(-1) inorg. + organic) calculated to provide the described amount of Se. Each diet was replicated in six box with 40 birds. A 3x2 factorial arrangement was used and the data were analyzed by ANOVA. The immunity was evaluated by means of the reaction against vaccine of Newcastle disease, and a reaction against sheep red blood cells (SRBC). No significant effects were observed at 5% significance level in NewCastle antibody (P >0.05). However at 14 day-old the source factor had p value at 0.0580, that show a trend of inorganic source in prolong the maternal immunity. No effect was observed in the immune response against SRBC (P >0.05). The results showed a immunologic response against Newcastle vaccine and SRBC, but the treatments was not able to induce a significant difference. The source and the level of Se showed no effect on the response against Newcastle vaccine and SRBC

    MAMMALS IN PORTUGAL : A data set of terrestrial, volant, and marine mammal occurrences in P ortugal

    Mammals are threatened worldwide, with 26% of all species being includedin the IUCN threatened categories. This overall pattern is primarily associatedwith habitat loss or degradation, and human persecution for terrestrial mam-mals, and pollution, open net fishing, climate change, and prey depletion formarine mammals. Mammals play a key role in maintaining ecosystems func-tionality and resilience, and therefore information on their distribution is cru-cial to delineate and support conservation actions. MAMMALS INPORTUGAL is a publicly available data set compiling unpublishedgeoreferenced occurrence records of 92 terrestrial, volant, and marine mam-mals in mainland Portugal and archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira thatincludes 105,026 data entries between 1873 and 2021 (72% of the data occur-ring in 2000 and 2021). The methods used to collect the data were: live obser-vations/captures (43%), sign surveys (35%), camera trapping (16%),bioacoustics surveys (4%) and radiotracking, and inquiries that represent lessthan 1% of the records. The data set includes 13 types of records: (1) burrowsjsoil moundsjtunnel, (2) capture, (3) colony, (4) dead animaljhairjskullsjjaws, (5) genetic confirmation, (6) inquiries, (7) observation of live animal (8),observation in shelters, (9) photo trappingjvideo, (10) predators dietjpelletsjpine cones/nuts, (11) scatjtrackjditch, (12) telemetry and (13) vocalizationjecholocation. The spatial uncertainty of most records ranges between 0 and100 m (76%).     Diretriz sobre Diagnóstico e Tratamento da Cardiomiopatia Hipertrófica – 2024

    Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a form of genetically caused heart muscle disease, characterized by the thickening of the ventricular walls. Diagnosis requires detection through imaging methods (Echocardiogram or Cardiac Magnetic Resonance) showing any segment of the left ventricular wall with a thickness > 15 mm, without any other probable cause. Genetic analysis allows the identification of mutations in genes encoding different structures of the sarcomere responsible for the development of HCM in about 60% of cases, enabling screening of family members and genetic counseling, as an important part of patient and family management. Several concepts about HCM have recently been reviewed, including its prevalence of 1 in 250 individuals, hence not a rare but rather underdiagnosed disease. The vast majority of patients are asymptomatic. In symptomatic cases, obstruction of the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) is the primary disorder responsible for symptoms, and its presence should be investigated in all cases. In those where resting echocardiogram or Valsalva maneuver does not detect significant intraventricular gradient (> 30 mmHg), they should undergo stress echocardiography to detect LVOT obstruction. Patients with limiting symptoms and severe LVOT obstruction, refractory to beta-blockers and verapamil, should receive septal reduction therapies or use new drugs inhibiting cardiac myosin. Finally, appropriately identified patients at increased risk of sudden death may receive prophylactic measure with implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation.La miocardiopatía hipertrófica (MCH) es una forma de enfermedad cardíaca de origen genético, caracterizada por el engrosamiento de las paredes ventriculares. El diagnóstico requiere la detección mediante métodos de imagen (Ecocardiograma o Resonancia Magnética Cardíaca) que muestren algún segmento de la pared ventricular izquierda con un grosor > 15 mm, sin otra causa probable. El análisis genético permite identificar mutaciones en genes que codifican diferentes estructuras del sarcómero responsables del desarrollo de la MCH en aproximadamente el 60% de los casos, lo que permite el tamizaje de familiares y el asesoramiento genético, como parte importante del manejo de pacientes y familiares. Varios conceptos sobre la MCH han sido revisados recientemente, incluida su prevalencia de 1 entre 250 individuos, por lo tanto, no es una enfermedad rara, sino subdiagnosticada. La gran mayoría de los pacientes son asintomáticos. En los casos sintomáticos, la obstrucción del tracto de salida ventricular izquierdo (TSVI) es el trastorno principal responsable de los síntomas, y su presencia debe investigarse en todos los casos. En aquellos en los que el ecocardiograma en reposo o la maniobra de Valsalva no detecta un gradiente intraventricular significativo (> 30 mmHg), deben someterse a ecocardiografía de esfuerzo para detectar la obstrucción del TSVI. Los pacientes con síntomas limitantes y obstrucción grave del TSVI, refractarios al uso de betabloqueantes y verapamilo, deben recibir terapias de reducción septal o usar nuevos medicamentos inhibidores de la miosina cardíaca. Finalmente, los pacientes adecuadamente identificados con un riesgo aumentado de muerte súbita pueden recibir medidas profilácticas con el implante de un cardioversor-desfibrilador implantable (CDI).A cardiomiopatia hipertrófica (CMH) é uma forma de doença do músculo cardíaco de causa genética, caracterizada pela hipertrofia das paredes ventriculares. A análise genética permite identificar mutações de genes codificantes de diferentes estruturas do sarcômero responsáveis pelo desenvolvimento da CMH em cerca de 60% dos casos, permitindo o rastreio de familiares e aconselhamento genético, como parte importante do manejo dos pacientes e familiares. Vários conceitos sobre a CMH foram recentemente revistos, incluindo sua prevalência de 1 em 250 indivíduos, não sendo, portanto, uma doença rara, mas subdiagnosticada. A vasta maioria dos pacientes é assintomática. Naqueles sintomáticos, a obstrução do trato de saída do ventrículo esquerdo (OTSVE) é o principal distúrbio responsável pelos sintomas, devendo-se investigar a sua presença em todos os casos. Naqueles em que o ecocardiograma em repouso ou com Manobra de Valsalva não detecta gradiente intraventricular significativo (> 30 mmHg), devem ser submetidos à ecocardiografia com esforço físico para detecção da OTSVE.   Pacientes com sintomas limitantes e grave OTSVE, refratários ao uso de betabloqueadores e verapamil, devem receber terapias de redução septal ou uso de novas drogas inibidoras da miosina cardíaca. Por fim, os pacientes adequadamente identificados com risco aumentado de morta súbita podem receber medida profilática com implante de cardiodesfibrilador implantável (CDI)

    Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil: setting the baseline knowledge on the animal diversity in Brazil

    The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others
