Flat Symplectic Bundles of N-Extended Supergravities, Central Charges and Black-Hole Entropy
In these lectures we give a geometrical formulation of N-extended
supergravities which generalizes N=2 special geometry of N=2 theories. In all
these theories duality symmetries are related to the notion of "flat symplectic
bundles" and central charges may be defined as "sections" over these bundles.
Attractor points giving rise to "fixed scalars" of the horizon geometry and
Bekenstein-Hawking entropy formula for extremal black-holes are discussed in

On Central Charges and Hamiltonians for 0-brane dynamics
We consider general properties of central charges of zero branes and
associated duality invariants, in view of their double role, on the bulk and on
the world volume (quantum-mechanical) theory. A detailed study of the BPS
condition for the mass spectrum arising from toroidal compactifications is
given for 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 BPS states in any dimensions. As a byproduct, we
retreive the U-duality invariant conditions on the charge (zero mode) spectrum
and the orbit classification of BPS states preserving different fractions of
supersymmetry. The BPS condition for 0-branes in theories with 16
supersymmetries in any dimension is also discussed.Comment: 23 pages, latex fil

On Invariant Structures of Black Hole Charges
We study "minimal degree" complete bases of duality- and "horizontal"-
invariant homogeneous polynomials in the flux representation of two-centered
black hole solutions in two classes of D=4 Einstein supergravity models with
symmetric vector multiplets' scalar manifolds. Both classes exhibit an SL(2,R)
"horizontal" symmetry. The first class encompasses N=2 and N=4 matter-coupled
theories, with semi-simple U-duality given by SL(2,R) x SO(m,n); the analysis
is carried out in the so-called Calabi-Vesentini symplectic frame (exhibiting
maximal manifest covariance) and until order six in the fluxes included. The
second class, exhibiting a non-trivial "horizontal" stabilizer SO(2), includes
N=2 minimally coupled and N=3 matter coupled theories, with U-duality given by
the pseudo-unitary group U(r,s) (related to complex flux representations).
Finally, we comment on the formulation of special Kaehler geometry in terms of

Black Hole Superpartners and Fixed Scalars
Some bosonic solutions of supergravities admit Killing spinors of unbroken
supersymmetry. The anti-Killing spinors of broken supersymmetry can be used to
generate the superpartners of stringy black holes. This has a consequent
feedback on the metric and the graviphoton. We have found however that the
fixed scalars for the black hole superpartners remain the same as for the
original black holes. Possible phenomenological implications of this result are

New Gauged N=8, D=4 Supergravities
New gaugings of four dimensional N=8 supergravity are constructed, including
one which has a Minkowski space vacuum that preserves N=2 supersymmetry and in
which the gauge group is broken to . Previous gaugings used the
form of the ungauged action which is invariant under a rigid symmetry
and promoted a 28-dimensional subgroup ( or the
non-semi-simple contraction ) to a local gauge group. Here, a
dual form of the ungauged action is used which is invariant under
instead of and new theories are obtained by gauging 28-dimensional
subgroups of . The gauge groups are non-semi-simple and are different
real forms of the groups, denoted , and the new
theories have a rigid SU(2) symmetry. The five dimensional gauged N=8
supergravities are dimensionally reduced to D=4. The gauge
theories reduce, after a duality transformation, to the
gauging while the gauge theory reduces to the gauge
theory. The new theories are related to the old ones via an analytic
continuation. The non-semi-simple gaugings can be dualised to forms with

Microscopic Entropy of N=2 Extremal Black Holes
String theory is used to compute the microscopic entropy for several examples
of black holes in compactifications with supersymmetry. Agreement with
the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and the moduli-independent area formula is

A Robust Consensus Algorithm for Current Sharing and Voltage Regulation in DC Microgrids
In this paper a novel distributed control algorithm for current sharing and
voltage regulation in Direct Current (DC) microgrids is proposed. The DC
microgrid is composed of several Distributed Generation units (DGUs), including
Buck converters and current loads. The considered model permits an arbitrary
network topology and is affected by unknown load demand and modelling
uncertainties. The proposed control strategy exploits a communication network
to achieve proportional current sharing using a consensus-like algorithm.
Voltage regulation is achieved by constraining the system to a suitable
manifold. Two robust control strategies of Sliding Mode (SM) type are developed
to reach the desired manifold in a finite time. The proposed control scheme is
formally analyzed, proving the achievement of proportional current sharing,
while guaranteeing that the weighted average voltage of the microgrid is
identical to the weighted average of the voltage references.Comment: 12 page
Kinematics of galaxies from [CII] line emission
We study the kinematical properties of galaxies in the Epoch of Reionization
via the [CII] 158m line emission. The line profile provides information on
the kinematics as well as structural properties such as the presence of a disk
and satellites. To understand how these properties are encoded in the line
profile, first we develop analytical models from which we identify disk
inclination and gas turbulent motions as the key parameters affecting the line
profile. To gain further insights, we use "Althaea", a highly-resolved () simulated prototypical Lyman Break Galaxy, in the redshift range , when the galaxy is in a very active assembling phase. Based on
morphology, we select three main dynamical stages: I) Merger , II) Spiral Disk,
and III) Disturbed Disk. We identify spectral signatures of merger events,
spiral arms, and extra-planar flows in I), II), and III), respectively. We
derive a generalised dynamical mass vs. [CII]-line FWHM relation. If precise
information on the galaxy inclination is (not) available, the returned mass
estimate is accurate within a factor (). A Tully-Fisher relation is
found for the observed high- galaxies, i.e. for which we provide a simple, physically-based
interpretation. Finally, we perform mock ALMA simulations to check the
detectability of [CII]. When seen face-on, Althaea is always detected at ; in the edge-on case it remains undetected because the larger
intrinsic FWHM pushes the line peak flux below detection limit. This suggests
