    La nacionalización de YPF y las condiciones para una política energética autonómica en la Argentina

    En el presente artículo proponemos una mirada relativa a la decisión por parte del gobierno argentino de nacionalizar las acciones pertenecientes a la empresa de capitales españoles, Repsol, sobre la principal empresa de hidrocarburos nacional, Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales (YPF). El caso es estudiado a partir de la teoría de la autonomía de Juan Carlos Puig. Comprendemos que la construcción de una política energética autonómica en el Siglo XXI estaría compuesta por tres elementos, a saber: el control sobre los denominados recursos naturales, así como diversificación y descarbonización de la matriz energética. En tal sentido, la nacionalización constituye una práctica autonómica limitada, por cuanto basa su anclaje en uno de tres elementos señalados. Asimismo, el enroque dado por el acuerdo signado con la empresa Chevrón con una reputación internacional desdeñable como producto de sus acciones en términos de daño ambiental, demuestra que la utilización del discurso ambiental fue una herramienta de primera hora que fue funcional al primer intento por expropiar las acciones de Repsol, morigerando el costo de la indemnización. En la medida que esta postura incrementó el aislamiento argentino en términos de acceso a inversiones, así como profundizaba la crisis energética, por cuanto no contaba con el capital necesario para explotar el Yacimiento de Vaca Muerta, el discurso ambiental fue dejado de lado, conjuntamente con el cierre de dos acuerdos dudosos: con Chevrón y con Repsol.Fil: Bueno, Maria del Pilar.     Development of low-pH cementitious materials for HLRW repositories. Resistance against ground waters aggression

    One of the most accepted engineering construction concepts of underground repositories for high radioactive waste considers the use of low-pH cementitious materials. This paper deals with the design of those based on Ordinary Portland Cements with high contents of silica fume and/or fly ashes that modify most of the concrete “standard” properties, the pore fluid composition and the microstructure of the hydrated products. Their resistance to long-term groundwater aggression is also evaluated. The results show that the use of OPC cement binders with high silica content produces low-pH pore waters and the microstructure of these cement pastes is different from the conventional OPC ones, generating C–S–H gels with lower CaO/SiO2 ratios that possibly bind alkali ions.     SqueezerFaceNet: Reducing a Small Face Recognition CNN Even More Via Filter Pruning

    The widespread use of mobile devices for various digital services has created a need for reliable and real-time person authentication. In this context, facial recognition technologies have emerged as a dependable method for verifying users due to the prevalence of cameras in mobile devices and their integration into everyday applications. The rapid advancement of deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) has led to numerous face verification architectures. However, these models are often large and impractical for mobile applications, reaching sizes of hundreds of megabytes with millions of parameters. We address this issue by developing SqueezerFaceNet, a light face recognition network which less than 1M parameters. This is achieved by applying a network pruning method based on Taylor scores, where filters with small importance scores are removed iteratively. Starting from an already small network (of 1.24M) based on SqueezeNet, we show that it can be further reduced (up to 40%) without an appreciable loss in performance.     En España, y más específicamente en Andalucía, la producción de energía a partir de la quema de biomasa presenta una actividad creciente, por lo que la caracterización de los residuos procedentes de esta combustión facilitaría su empleo futuro. En el presente trabajo se estudia la viabilidad técnica que presentan ciertos residuos (cenizas volantes y cenizas de fondo) procedentes de dicha combustión, para ser empleados en materiales de construcción, evaluando la composición química y mineralógica de estos residuos. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que los residuos analizados poseen propiedades aceptables para ser utilizados en la producción de materiales que tomen como base el cemento, si bien su calidad y tipo de aplicación depende de la procedencia del residu

    State-of-the-Art for the use of Phase-Change Materials in Tanks Coupled with Heat Pumps

    With the goal of increasing heat storage in the same accumulation volumes, phase-change materials are considered. There are different substances with different phase-change temperatures that can be used for storing heating or cooling implemented in heat pump systems for applications of space heating and cooling, ventilation or domestic hot water production. Reducing the size of the buffer tanks used with heat pumps, avoiding the oversizing of heat pumps or detaching thermal energy production and consumption are among the benefits that could result from the combination of heat pumps and latent heat thermal energy storage. In addition, this form of thermal energy storage allows enhancing the use of renewable energy sources as heat sources for heat pump systems. Most previous review works focus mainly on the different materials available that can be used as phase-change materials.     Effects of soluble humic acids on the uptake of heavy metals by Vetiveria zizanioides (L.) Nash in contaminated mining soils

    In the past, mining wastes were left wherever they might lie in the surroundings of the mine area. Unfortunately, inactive and abandoned mines continue to pollute our environment, reason why these sites should be restored with minimum impact. Phytoextraction is an environmental-friendly and cost-effective technology less harmful than traditional methods that uses metal hyperaccumulator or at least tolerant plants to extract heavy metals from polluted soils. One disadvantage of hyperaccumulator species is their slow growth rate and low biomass production. Vetiveria zizanioides (L.) Nash, perennial species adapted to Mediterranean climate has a strong root system which can reach up to 3 m deep, is fast growing, and can survive in sites with high metal levels (Chen et al., 2004). Due to the fact that metals in abandoned mine tailings become strongly bonded to soil solids, humic acids used as chelating agents could increase metal bioavailability (Evangelou et al., 2004; Wilde et al., 2005) and thereby promote higher accumulation in the harvestable parts of the plant.     Structural evolution, optical gap and thermoelectric properties of CH3NH3SnBr3 hybrid perovskite, prepared by mechanochemistry

    Direct bandgap semiconductors of the hybrid-perovskite family CH3NH3PbX3 (X = I, Br, Cl) exhibit outstanding light absorption properties and are the materials of choice for solar energy applications. As an alternative to poisonous Pb, tin-containing perovskites would show a lower effective mass thus exhibiting a higher charge carrier mobility. An auspicious candidate is CH3NH3SnBr3, with an estimated band gap of 1.902 eV, anticipating applications in photovoltaic devices for the visible to ultra-violet wavelength region. We describe that this perovskite can be prepared by ball milling in a straightforward way, yielding specimens with a superior crystallinity. A structural investigation from synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction (SXRD) data was essential to revisit the successive phase transitions this compound experiences down to 120 K, guided by specific heat capacity and DSC measurements. From the cubic structure identified at RT and 270 K, there is a gradual evolution of the patterns, analysed as a phase admixture between the cubic and the low-symmetry phase present at 160 K. This corresponds to an orthorhombic Pmc21 superstructure; this acentric space group enables polarization along the c-axis where there is a twofold screw axis, evidenced in the distribution of Sn-Br distances. Furthermore, there are two conspicuous changes in the orthorhombic framework, yet keeping the Pmc21 space group, which agree with the main calorimetric events (observed at 224 and 147 K). We interpret these changes as an interplay between the tilting of the SnBr6 octahedra of the inorganic framework and the breaking and reconstruction of H-bond interactions with the organic CH3NH+3 unit. The stereochemical effect of the lone electron pair of the Sn2+ ion is clear in the SnBr6 octahedral distortion. Diffuse reflectance UV/Vis spectroscopy yields an optical gap of ∼2.1 eV, in agreement with ab- initio calculations. A Seebeck coefficient of ∼2000 μV K-1 is determined near RT, which is one order of magnitude higher than those reported for other halide perovskites.Fil: Lopez, Carlos Alberto.     Beneficial effect of ursodeoxycholic acid in patients with acyl-CoA oxidase 2 (ACOX2) deficiency-associated hypertransaminasemia

    Background and aims: A variant (p.Arg225Trp) of peroxisomal acyl-CoA oxidase 2 (ACOX2), involved in bile acid (BA) side-chain shortening, has been associated with unexplained persistent hypertransaminasemia and accumulation of C27-BAs, mainly 3?,7?,12?-trihydroxy-5?-cholestanoic acid (THCA). We aimed to investigate the prevalence of ACOX2 deficiency-associated hypertransaminasemia (ADAH), its response to ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), elucidate its pathophysiological mechanism and identify other inborn errors that could cause this alteration. Methods and results: Among 33 patients with unexplained hypertransaminasemia from 11 hospitals and 13 of their relatives, seven individuals with abnormally high C27-BA levels (>50% of total BAs) were identified by high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. The p.Arg225Trp variant was found in homozygosity (exon amplification/sequencing) in two patients and three family members. Two additional nonrelated patients were heterozygous carriers of different alleles: c.673C>T (p.Arg225Trp) and c.456_459del (p.Thr154fs). In patients with ADAH, impaired liver expression of ACOX2, but not ACOX3, was found (immunohistochemistry). Treatment with UDCA normalized aminotransferase levels. Incubation of HuH-7 hepatoma cells with THCA, which was efficiently taken up, but not through BA transporters, increased reactive oxygen species production (flow cytometry), endoplasmic reticulum stress biomarkers (GRP78, CHOP, and XBP1-S/XBP1-U ratio), and BAX? expression (reverse transcription followed by quantitative polymerase chain reaction and immunoblot), whereas cell viability was decreased (tetrazolium salt-based cell viability test). THCA-induced cell toxicity was higher than that of major C24-BAs and was not prevented by UDCA. Fourteen predicted ACOX2 variants were generated (site-directed mutagenesis) and expressed in HuH-7 cells. Functional tests to determine their ability to metabolize THCA identified six with the potential to cause ADAH. Conclusions: Dysfunctional ACOX2 has been found in several patients with unexplained hypertransaminasemia. This condition can be accurately identified by a noninvasive diagnostic strategy based on plasma BA profiling and ACOX2 sequencing.     Microbiological contamination of conventional and reclaimed irrigation water: evaluation and management measures

    The wide diversity of irrigation water sources (i.e., drinking water, groundwater, reservoir water, river water) includes reclaimed water as a requested measure for increasing water availability, but it is also a challenge as pathogen exposure may increase. This study evaluates the level of microbial contamination in different irrigation waters to improve the knowledge and analyses management measures for safety irrigation. Over a one-year period, the occurrence of a set of viruses, bacteria and protozoa, was quantified and the performance of a wetland system, producing reclaimed water intended for irrigation, was characterized. Human fecal pollution (HAdV) was found in most of the irrigation water types analysed. Hepatitis E virus (HEV), an emerging zoonotic pathogen, was present in groundwater where porcine contamination was identified (PAdV). The skin-carcinoma associated Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV), was found occasionally in river water. Noroviruses were detected, as expected, in winter, in river water and reclaimed water. Groundwater, river water and reservoir water also harboured potential bacterial pathogens, like Helicobacter pylori, Legionella spp. and Aeromonas spp. that could be internalized and viable inside amoebas like Acanthamoeba castellanii, which was also detected. Neither Giardia cysts, nor any Cryptosporidium oocysts were detected. The wetland system removed 3 Log10 of viruses and 5 Log10 of bacteria, which resembled the river water quality. Irrigation waters were prone to variable contamination levels and according to the European guidance documents, the E. coli (EC) levels were not always acceptable. Sporadic detection of viral pathogens as NoV GII and HAdV was identified in water samples presenting lower EC than the established limit (100MNP/100 mL). When dealing with reclaimed water as a source of irrigation the analysis of some viral parameters, like HAdV during the peak irrigation period (summer and spring) or NoV during the coldest months, could complement existing water management tools based on bacterial indicators
