Determinants of contract renewals in business-to- business relationships

Purpose – This paper aims to analyze the underlying factors of contract renewals in business-to-business(B2B) contracts.Design/methodology/approach – The authors build a unique data set with 296 contracts signed between a major firm supplying petrochemical goods and its 128 customers between 2013 and 2016. They use Insider Econometrics as their methodological approach.Findings – The econometric results suggest that contracts involving higher volume of trade, higher levels of dedicated assets representing seller’s specific investments in each transaction, and contracts comprising more than one product present an increased likelihood of being renewed.Research limitations/implications – Although limited to a single organization, this paper contributes to management theories focused on buyer–supplier relationships in which coordination between interdependent parties is required.Practical implications – Practitioners engaged in B2B relationships may benefitfromthefindings to shape their bargaining strategies in contexts of high levels of asset specificity and bilateral dependence.Originality/value – This paper contribute to theories related to the strategic negotiation between buyers and suppliers by emphasizing the importance of asset specificity in a nuanced and multifaceted fashion, by highlighting aspects related to resource dependency, and idiosyncratic characteristics oncontract renewal

Filmes em sala de aula - realidade e ficção : uma análise do uso do cinema pelos professores de história

A observação foi realizada com vinte e um profissionais, sendo nove deles entrevistados. Foram analisadas as condições materiais, as práticas, os conceitos e a presença da indústria cultural nesta relação de ensino, a qual interfere na formação dos alunos. Tal relação foi analisada considerando a cultura escolar, a prática didática, e a relação do professor com seus alunos e com o cinema. No desenvolvimento há uma revisão bibliográfica de estudos a respeito das relações históricas entre cinema e educação, com ênfase ao ensino de história, à indústria cultural, à tecnologia, bem como de estudos que enfatizam o cinema como produto cultural com linguagem estética singular. As entrevistas analisadas levaram à necessidade de sugerir práticas didáticas para o ensino de história envolvendo filmes já apresentados em práticas dos professores.Abstract: This is an empirical research involving High School History teachers from nine different schools in the city of Curitiba. The observation was made from twenty-one professionals, nine of which were interviewed. Material conditions, practices, concepts, and the cultural industry presence in this learning sector were analyzed; all of them interfere in students' background. This relation was analyzed considering school culture, didactics, studentteacher relationships, and cinema. The development brings a bibliographic review about the historical relations between cinema and education, with special emphasis to History learning, cultural industry, technology and also studies which emphasize cinema as a cultural product with a singular aesthetics language. The analyzed interview showed the need of suggesting didactic practices for History teaching which involve films previously presented in class by teachers

O gênero Echinococcus no contexto de Saúde Única

Species of the Echinococcus genus are responsible for causing cystic diseases in animals and humans worldwide. This genus currently contains 10 species, which are divided into strains/genotypes of different intermediate and definitive hosts, responsible for causing, in humans, Cystic Echinococcosis, Alveolar Echinococcosis and Polycystic Echinococcosis. In animals that are considered definitive hosts, infections by Echinococcus spp. tend not to show clinical signs. However, in domestic intermediate hosts, the presence of cysts is detected on post-mortem inspection, which results in the removal and disposal of affected areas. It is a complex disease, as it has in its dissemination cycle several unexplained host and parasite interactions associated with risk factors such as poverty and low educational level of the population, in addition to the reduced notification of cases. Due to this conjunction of elements, this disease requires a multidisciplinary approach for its control. The objective of this work is, through a literature review, to relate the main aspects of echinococcosis in the context of One Health, addressing the characterization of the life cycle of parasites of the genus Echinococcus, the post-mortem inspection as a tool for epidemiological analysis and barrier that prevents the continuation of the parasite's life cycle, the importance of the disease in Public Health, its diagnosis, treatment and control.Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação)Espécies do gênero Echinococcus são responsáveis por causar doenças císticas em animais e humanos no mundo todo. Esse gênero contem atualmente 10 espécies, que são divididas em linhagens/genótipos de diferentes hospedeiros intermediários e definitivos, responsáveis por causar, em humanos, a Equinococose Cística, Equinococose Alveolar e Equinococose Policística. Nos animais que são considerados hospedeiros definitivos, as infecções por Echinococcus spp. tendem a não apresentar sinais clínicos. Porém, em hospedeiros intermediários domésticos, a presença de cistos é detectada na inspeção post-mortem, o que resulta na remoção e descarte das áreas acometidas. Trata-se de uma enfermidade complexa, pois tem em seu ciclo de disseminação diversas interações hospedeiro e parasita não elucidadas, associadas a fatores de risco como pobreza e baixo nível de escolaridade da população, além da reduzida notificação de casos. Devido a essa conjunção de elementos, esta enfermidade exige uma abordagem multidisciplinar para seu controle. O objetivo desse trabalho é, por meio de uma revisão da literatura, relacionar os aspectos principais da equinococose no contexto de Saúde Única, abordando a caracterização do ciclo de vida de parasitos do gênero Echinococcus, a inspeção post-mortem como ferramenta de análise epidemiológica e barreira que impede a continuação do ciclo de vida do parasita, a importância da enfermidade em Saúde Pública, seu diagnóstico, tratamento e controle

Biochemical and Functional Characteristics of Elderly Female Residents in the Rural and Urban Sectors of Yumbe, Chile

This study aimed to evaluate and compare functional capacity and biochemical factors among elderly women living in the urban and rural sectors of Yumbe, Chile. The sample consisted of 2 groups of elderly women from the province of Ñuble, from the eighth region of Chile, divided into urban elderly (UE) (n = 20) with a mean age of 67.57 ± 3.4 years, and rural elderly (RE) (n = 20), with a mean age of 71.25 ± 2.2 years. The following biochemical variables were analyzed: glycemic index a, and triglycerides levels and cholesterol levels. The test battery used to assess functional capacity was the Senior Fitness Test. It was found that the UE group presented better indices than the RE group for all variables except glycemia, for which the RE group presented better indices. In the functional capacity, in particular, the upper and lower body strength is significantly lower in the RE. The functional capacity and the biochemical parameters studied have shown that the elderly women of different social conditions in the Yumbe-Chile region do not present a good degree of functionality, and also show high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides, which might be the cause of the increased prevalence of health problems in this population

Leveraging RISC-V to build an open-source (hardware) OS framework for reconfigurable IoT devices

With the growing interest in RISC-V systems and the endless possi bilities of creating customized hardware architectures, we introduce the first proof of concept (PoC) implementation of ChamelIoT, the first open-source agnostic hardware operating system (OS) frame work for reconfigurable Internet of Things (IoT) low-end devices. At this stage, ChamelIoT, leveraging the Rocket Custom Co-Processor Interface (RoCC), provides hardware acceleration support for thread management and scheduling of three different OSes: RIOT, Zephyr, and FreeRTOS. This paper overviews the overall ChamelIoT archi tecture and describes the implementation details of the current PoC deployment. Our first experiments were carried out on a Xilinx Arty-35T FPGA Evaluation kit and the preliminary results are very promising, showing that the desired agnosticism and flexibility can be achieved with determinism and performance advantages at a reasonable cost of hardware resources

A internet como meio privilegiado de divulgação de informação, tem registado uma tendência crescente nos seus níveis de acesso, e cada vez mais em países até agora considerados menos desenvolvidos. A conectividade às redes móveis e de internet tem vindo a crescer a bom ritmo em África e este continente chega mesmo a ultrapassar a Europa e Estados Unidos no número de subscrições de telefones móveis, sendo também o que apresenta uma maior taxa de crescimento no número de utilizadores de internet. A construção do portal Web CIENCIA.AO – Portal de Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação de Angola – vem constituir-­‐se como uma ferramenta de ajuda à disseminação dos esforços efetuados nestas áreas e a integrar os diversos atores de investigação científica
