New Approaches to the Teaching of Spoken English

Curso 2018-2019Although extensive research has been conducted in the last few years on the teaching of foreign languages and, more particularly, on the teaching of English, speaking skills have to a large extent I been highly disregarded, partly because it is not easy to teach them with large groups of students. Moreover, new technologies are getting more and more important in the teaching of modern languages to the extent that they are having a great impact on their teaching. Thus, this work seeks to analyse the use of new technologies in the teaching of English speaking skills in the 21th century. The study will be divided into two different sections. The first part will be more theoretical and will consist of a brief introduction to what we mean by technology in the classroom context as well as highlighting the importance of teaching spoken English and the significant advantages of using and introducing technology as a didactic tool. I will also refer to the benefits in the use of new technologies for the teaching of spoken skills. Comparisons will be made with more traditional approaches. The second part will be more practical in nature. A study will be conducted at a high school level so as to find out which are the new technologies that are being used nowadays in the classroom and to investigate the views of teachers and learners on their use. This project will conclude with a number of reflections on the pros and cons of technologies applied to the teaching of speaking in the light of the findings obtaine

Evidencia científica y medidas preventivas para la reducción del consumo de cannabis durante la adolescencia

La preocupación por parte de los profesionales que trabajan en prevención, los educadores y padres por el consumo de cannabis en edades cada vez más tempranas, va en aumento. Los índices de prevalencia e incidencia del consumo de cannabis por parte de los jóvenes españoles son de los más altos de Europa. En España se ha desarrollado en la última década un movimiento pro-cannabis que ha logrado ser muy influyente en la sociedad española pero sobre todo en la juventud: se han encargado de lanzar mensajes pseudocientíficos y dar a conocer argumentos nada ortodoxos para legalizar el cannabis y legitimar socialmente su consumo. Esto ha llevado a que la población asuma como ciertos muchos mitos y falsas creencias sobre las bondades del cannabis. En el presente artículo se repasan y reflexionan sobre posibles estrategias para desarticular esas falsas creencias basándonos en la evidencia científica

Emotional education in the elderly : socioeducational approach and proposal

Para o tratamento da mesma é preciso o establecemento dunha serie de criterios denominados boas prácticas, centrándose estas neste TFG no lecer coma eixo principal, o cal se materializa en maior medida a través do binomio arteseducación, e sendo así fundamental para o seu sustento as accións interxeracionais e o avellentamento activo. [ES]La educación emocional es una necesidad del ciclo vital que pretende el desarrollo integral de las personas por lo que, en la etapa de la vejez, al detectar una carencia de la misma, se hace una carestía ineludible, siendo de esta manera un campo de trabajo emergente en la Educación Social. Para el tratamiento de la misma es preciso el establecimiento de una serie de criterios denominados buenas prácticas, centrándose estas en este TFG en el ocio como eje principal, el cual se materializa en mayor medida a través del binomio artes-educación, y siendo así fundamental para su sustento las acciones intergeneracionales y el envejecimiento activo. Experiencia de creación del MOOC “Música para el siglo XXI: aportaciones del software libre a la educación musical”

[Resumen] Con motivo de la I convocatoria para la elaboración de MOOCS de la Universidade da Coruña y dada la ausencia de cursos específicos relacionados con música y TIC dentro de las plataformas más importantes de MOOCS, desde el grupo de innovación educativa metodológica a través de las TIC (IMETIC), y en colaboración con la Universidad de Cádiz, se decide elaborar un Mooc centrado en el software libre y la educación musical. En la presente comunicación abordamos la experiencia de preparación de este MOOC centrándonos en la explicación de cómo ha sido el proceso de elaboración del mismo, desde la planificación y selección de los módulos que componen el curso hasta el proceso de decisión de los tipos de material audiovisual necesario para el mismo, explicando cómo hemos realizado las grabaciones, y los diferentes materiales de apoyo. Una vez generados todos los materiales didácticos, se expone el flujo de trabajo necesario para la publicación de dichos contenidos en la plataforma Mooc escogida a tal efecto, en este caso MiríadaX.[Abstract] On the ocassion of the I call for the development of MOOC courses organized by University of A Coruña and given the absence of specific courses related with music and ICT withing the most important MOOC platforms, teachers from IMETIC group in collaboration with University of Cadiz decided to develop a MOOC course focused on open-source and music education. Through the present communication we address the experience of the creation of this MOOC, focusing on the explanation about how the course was prepaired, from the planning and selection of the modules that make up the course up to the decision about the kind of audiovisal materials neccesary for it, going through the explanation about how we made the recordings as well as other support materials. Once all the didactic materials have been generated, we explain how was the workflow followed in order to publish all the contents in the MOOC platform chosen for this purpose, in this case MiríadaX

Allelopathic and bloom-forming picocyanobacteria in a changing world

Picocyanobacteria are extremely important organisms in the world’s oceans and freshwater ecosystems. They play an essential role in primary production and their domination in phytoplankton biomass is common in both oligotrophic and eutrophic waters. Their role is expected to become even more relevant with the effect of climate change. However, this group of photoautotrophic organisms still remains insufficiently recognized. Only a few works have focused in detail on the occurrence of massive blooms of picocyanobacteria, their toxicity and allelopathic activity. Filling the gap in our knowledge about the mechanisms involved in the proliferation of these organisms could provide a better understanding of aquatic environments. In this review, we gathered and described recent information about allelopathic activity of picocyanobacteria and occurrence of their massive blooms in many aquatic ecosystems. We also examined the relationships between climate change and representative picocyanobacterial genera from freshwater, brackish and marine ecosystems. This work emphasizes the importance of studying the smallest picoplanktonic fractions of cyanobacteria. © 2018 MDPI. Reconstructing palaeo-volcanic geometries using a Geodynamic Regression Model (GRM): Application to Deception Island volcano (South Shetland Islands, Antarctica)

This article describes a reconstruction made of the palaeo-volcanic edifice on Deception Island (South Shetland Islands, Antarctica) prior to the formation of its present caldera. Deception Island is an active Quaternary volcano located in the Bransfield Strait, between the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. The morphology of the island has been influenced mainly by the volcanic activity but geodynamics and volcanic deformation have also contributed. A volcanic reconstruction method, the Geodynamic Regression Model (GRM), which includes a terrain deformation factor, is proposed. In the case of Deception Island, the directions of this deformation are NW–SE and NE–SW, and match both the observed deformation of the Bransfield Strait and the volcanic deformation monitored over the last 20 years in the island, using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) techniques. Based on these data, possible volcanic deformation values of 5–15 mm/yr in these directions have been derived. A possible coastline derived from a current bathymetry is transformed, according to values for the chosen date, to obtain the palaeo-coastline of Deception Island of 100 k years ago. Topographic, geomorphologic, volcanological and geological data in a GIS system have been considered, for computation of the outside caldera slope, palaeo-coastline, palaeo-summit height and palaeo digital elevation model (DEM). The result is a 3D palaeo-geomorphological surface model of a volcano, reaching 640 m in height, with an increase of 4 km3 in volume compared to the current edifice, covering 4 km2 more surface area and the method reveals the previous existence of parasite volcanoes. Two photorealistic images of the island are obtained by superposition of textures extracted from a current Quick Bird satellite image also. This technique for reconstructing the terrain of an existing volcano could be useful for analysing the past and future geomorphology of this island and similar locations

Fiscalidad Empresarial. Impuesto sobre Sociedades: régimen general tratamiento y análisis de la doble imposición

Traballo Fin de Grao en Administración e Dirección de EmpresasEste Trabajo de Fin de Grado trata las características relevantes del Régimen General del Impuesto sobre Sociedades en España, así como el tratamiento de la doble imposición. El trabajo utiliza el análisis cuantitativo y legal con la finalidad principal de trasmitir información fiscal y estadística de comprensión compleja sobre el Impuesto y la doble imposición. Los datos obtenidos en el trabajo muestran un papel relevante del Impuesto sobre Sociedades en el sistema tributario español y, de forma más general, también a nivel europeo. Por otra banda, su evolución estuvo marcada por la crisis económica en el año 2008 a raíz de la crisis financiera, y también por la crisis del Covid-19 en el año 2020. Su relevancia en las relaciones internacionales ha crecido a partir del acuerdo del G7 en el mes de junio de 2021. En este acuerdo se propuso establecer un impuesto mínimo global para las grandes empresas multinacionales con el fin de contribuir a la equidad tributaria internacional. Una vez realizado el análisis anterior, se estudia la doble imposición nacional e internacional, pudiendo ser esta última económica o jurídica según la Ley 27/2014.Posteriormente, se detallan las limitaciones a las exenciones relativas a la Ley 11/2020. Los cambios de la recaudación de estos incentivos fueron más evidentes a partir de la eliminación de la doble imposición interna como deducción a la cuota íntegra en la Ley 27/2014, con la consecuente disminución del importe recaudado de las deducciones y el aumento en las exenciones

Assessment of the allelochemical activity and biochemical profile of different phenotypes of picocyanobacteria from the genus synechococcus

Organisms belonging to Synechococcus sp. genera are observed in all freshwater, brackish, and marine waters of the world. They play a relevant role in these ecosystems, since they are one of the main primary producers, especially in open ocean. Eventually, they form mass blooms in coastal areas, which are potentially dangerous for the functioning of marine ecosystems. Allelopathy could be an important factor promoting the proliferation of these organisms. According to the authors’ best knowledge, there is no information on the allelopathic activity and allelopathic compounds exhibited by different Synechococcus sp. phenotypes. Therefore, the research conducted here aimed to study the bioactivity of compounds produced by three phenotypes of Synechococcus sp. by studying their influence on the growth, chlorophyll fluorescence, and photosynthetic pigments of eighteen cyanobacteria and microalgae species. We demonstrated that three different Synechococcus sp. phenotypes, including a phycocyanin (PC)-rich strain (Type 1; green strain) and phycoerythrin (PE)-rich strains containing phycoerythrobilin (PEB) and phycocyanobilin (PCB) (Type 2; red strain and Type 3a; brown strain), had a significant allelopathic effect on the selected species of cyanobacteria, diatoms, and green algae. For all green algae, a decrease in cell abundance under the influence of phenotypes of donor cyanobacteria was shown, whereas, among some target cyanobacteria and diatom species, the cell-free filtrate was observed to have a stimulatory effect. Our estimates of the stress on photosystem II (Fv/Fm) showed a similar pattern, although for some diatoms, there was an effect of stress on photosynthesis, while a stimulatory effect on growth was also displayed. The pigment content was affected by allelopathy in most cases, particularly for chlorophyll a, whilst it was a bit less significant for carotenoids. Our results showed that Synechococcus sp. Type 3a had the strongest effect on target species, while Synechococcus sp. Type 1 had the weakest allelopathic effect. Furthermore, GC-MS analysis produced different biochemical profiles for the Synechococcus strains.
