Using a Preoperative Scan Digital Impression and a Digital Index to Build Immediate Interim Full-Arch Implant-Supported Prosthesis. A Case Report and Proof of Concept
The transfer of information such esthetics and occlusion from the preoperative to the postoperative digital impression could reduce the time needed to build an immediately loaded full-arch not-guided rehabilitation and improve the quality of the immediate interim restoration. Based on the digital technology advances of the last years, the purpose of the present clinical report is to describe a novel digital workflow based on computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing aimed at fabricating an interim fixed full-arch restoration. The protocol entails recording preoperative information such as esthetics, the occlusal plane and the intermaxillary relationship in implant-supported complete rehabilitations before the surgical insertion of the fixtures. Then, the information is transferred to the postoperative impression using a digital index in the lower jaw and the palatal rugae in the upper jaw. Within the inherent limitations of a case report, the workflow was accurate, predictable, without errors from conventional protocols and was apparently characterized by low biological costs
Reseña de actividad: IV Jornadas de trabajo sobre Exilios Políticos del Cono Sur en el siglo XX Agendas, problemas y perspectivas conceptuales : Universidad Nacional del Sur, Bahía Blanca, 7, 8 y 9 de noviembre de 2018
Durante los días 7, 8 y 9 de noviembre de 2018 se desarrollaron en la ciudad de Bahía Blanca las IV Jornadasde Trabajo sobre Exilios Políticos del Cono Sur en el siglo XX, con el esfuerzo de co-organización de la Maestría en Historia y Memoria de la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata, el Departamento de Humanidades de la Universidad Nacional del Sur y el ConsejoLatinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales. Esta edición se inscribe en un itinerario de trabajo iniciado en 2012 en el espacio de la Maestría de Historia y Memoria (FHCE-UNLP), continuado en 2014 en la Universidad de la República (Montevideo) y en 2016 en la Universidad de Chile. Desde los inicios la propuesta fue crear un espacio regular de intercambio sobre los exilios provocados por el último ciclo de Dictaduras de Seguridad Nacional en el Cono Sur de América Latina, que dé cuenta del crecimiento de este campo de estudios tanto en cantidad de investigadores comoen la diversidad de temas, preocupaciones y problemas. La convocatoria atrajo a más de 80 ponentes de 10 países que expusieron sus ponencias organizadasen 14 mesas, articuladas en 8 ejes: Problemas conceptuales y metodológicos del campo de Estudios delos exilios políticos; Exilios y represión: persecución política, vigilancia y/o criminalización; Partidospolíticos, militancias, redes y transnacionalismo político, sindical, humanitario, académico; Las mujeres en el exilio y los exilios en perspectiva de género; Exilios sectoriales: exilio obrero y sindical, teatral, literario, intelectual, periodístico, etc.; Exilio y generaciones. A coupled wave–3-D hydrodynamics model of the Taranto Sea (Italy): amultiple-nesting approach
Abstract. The present work describes an operational strategy for the development of a multiscale modeling system, based on a multiple-nesting approach and open-source numerical models. The strategy was applied and validated for the Gulf of Taranto in southern Italy, scaling large-scale oceanographic model results to high-resolution coupled wave–3-D hydrodynamics simulations for the area of Mar Grande in the Taranto Sea. The spatial and temporal high-resolution simulations were performed using the open-source TELEMAC suite, forced by wind data from the COSMO-ME database, boundary wave spectra from the RON buoy at Crotone and results from the Southern Adriatic Northern Ionian coastal Forecasting System (SANIFS) regarding sea levels and current fields. Model validation was carried out using data collected in the Mar Grande basin from a fixed monitoring station and during an oceanographic campaign in October 2014. The overall agreement between measurements and model results in terms of waves, sea levels, surface currents, circulation patterns and vertical velocity profiles is deemed to be satisfactory, and the methodology followed in the process can constitute a useful tool for both research and operational applications in the same field and as support of decisions for management and design of infrastructures
LEGU-MED: Developing biodiversity-based agriculture with legume cropping systems in the mediterranean basin
Environmental degradation and the decrease of ecosystem service provision are currently of major concern, with current agricultural systems being a major driver. To meet our future environmental and sustainability targets a transformation of the agro-food systems and current agricultural value chain are crucial. One approach to redesign farming systems is the concept of biodiversity-based agriculture (BBA) which relies on sustainable diversification of biological components and their natural interactions in farming systems to maximize fertility, productivity, and resilience to external perturbations. Despite minimizing anthropogenic inputs, BBA is not yet able to meet all beneficial environmental objectives. BBA applied in the Mediterranean basin requires urgent innovation in approaches, methodologies, and models for small-holder traditional farming systems to ensure a stable provision of ecosystem services and better resilience to environmental stresses linked to climate change. Legumes are the backbone of the Mediterranean agro-ecosystems from ancient times, but their unique and wide biodiversity was not sufficiently valorized, especially by North-African countries. Here, we present LEGU-MED, a three-year international project funded by PRIMA initiative 2019. An international consortium was established involving five universities, 5 research institutes, and one private company from 8 countries: Italy, Germany, Spain, Algeria, Tunisia, Turkey, Lebanon, and Croatia. The main objective of this project is to put forward an international and well-integrated plan to valorize the legume agrobiodiversity of the Mediterranean in biodiversity-based farming systems and consequently enhance agro-ecosystem functions and services in the Mediterranean basin. The successful completion of LEGU-MED will have the following impacts on Mediterranean legume-based farming systems: (1) improve water use efficiency, (2) reduce the use of anthropogenic inputs through the maintenance of soil fertility, (3) enhance pollination and improve ecological connectivity with flora and fauna, (4) protect close-by wildland ecosystems, (5) enhance other ecosystem services (e.g., pest, disease, and weed suppression), and (6) provide healthier and safer protein-rich food
Native Fluorescent Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents for Green Sensing Applications: Curcuminoids in Curcuma longa Powder
Natural deep eutectic solvents are a trending topic in Green Chemistry. These solvents present high solubilization capacity, reusability, tunable properties, simple preparation, biodegradability, safety, high availability, and low cost, making them excellent candidates for analytical applications. In this work, a new family of fluorescent eutectic systems is described, with the fluorescence property being unknown and unused so far. For this purpose, a novel preparation method using an ultrasound probe was employed, by means of an innovative single-step procedure, that included the preparation of FCH (fructose, citric acid, and water, 1:1:5 molar ratio) and the extraction/determination of curcuminoids from Curcuma longa powder. This methodology was successfully carried out by employing a portable and inexpensive 3D-printed fluorometer and a smartphone. In this way, extraction efficiencies between 90 and 106%, relative to the NIST reference method, were obtained in just 3.40 min. Besides, the greenness of the new methodology was evaluated by employing the AGREE metric, showing that the developed approach is >2.5 times greener than previously published works for curcuminoid determination. This groundbreaking procedure is robust, versatile, and simple to implement, does not require sophisticated apparatus or instruments in the detection step, and, mainly, agrees with Green Analytical Chemistry (GAC) principles.Fil: Lorenzetti, Anabela Silvana. Observational Evidence of the Basin-Wide Gyre Reversal in the Gulf of Taranto
The paper shows for the first time the observational evidence of basin-wide gyre reversal in the Gulf of Taranto (north-western Ionian Sea in the eastern Mediterranean Sea) by means of two specifically designed in situ oceanographic campaigns (based on CTD and ADCP measurements). The analysis of the in situ data shows a change in circulation from anticyclonic in October 2014 to cyclonic in June\u2013July 2016. Furthermore, long-term (1993\u20132018) analysis using gridded satellite altimetry data in the Gulf of Taranto shows that the cyclonic gyres are more frequent than anticyclonic gyres. The latter occur only for 2 to 3 years at a time in some decades
Diagnostic Yield and Miss Rate of EndoRings in an Organized Colorectal Cancer Screening Program: the SMART (Study Methodology for ADR-Related Technology) Trial
Background and aims
The add-on EndoRings has been claimed to improve adenoma detection at colonoscopy, but available data are inconsistent. When testing a new technology, parallel and crossover methodologies measure different outcomes, leaving uncertainty on their correspondence. Aims of this study were to compare the diagnostic yield and miss rate of the EndoRings for colorectal neoplasia.
Methods
Consecutive subjects undergoing colonoscopy after a positive fecal immunochemical test (FIT) within organized screening program in 7 Italian centers, were randomized between a parallel (EndoRings or Standard) or a crossover (EndoRings/Standard or Standard/EndoRings) methodology. Outcomes measures were the detection rates of (advanced) adenomas (A-)ADR in the parallel arms and miss rate of adenomas in the crossover arms.
Results
Of 958 eligible subjects, 927 (317 EndoRings; 317 Standard; 142 EndoRings/Standard; 151 Standard/Endorings) were included in the final analysis. In the parallel arms (mean ADR: 51.3%; mean AADR: 25.4%), no difference between Standard and EndoRings was found for both ADR (RR, 1.10; 95% CI, 0.95-1.28) and A-ADR (RR, 1.16; 95% CI, 0.88-1.51), as well as for the mean number of adenomas and advanced adenomas per patient (EndoRings: 1.9±1.3 and 1.0±1.2; Standard 2.1±1.5 and 1.0±1.2; p=NS for both comparisons). In the crossover arms, no difference in miss rate for adenomas between EndoRings and Standard was found at per-polyp (RR, 1.43; 95% CI, 0.97-2.10), as well as at per-patient analysis (24% vs 26%; p=0.76).
Conclusions
No statistically significant difference in diagnostic yield and miss rate between EndoRings and Standard colonoscopy was detected in FIT+ patients. A clinically relevant correspondence between miss and detection rates was shown, supporting a cause-effect relationship
Gendered financial & nutritional benefits from access to pay-as-you-go LPG for cooking in an informal settlement in Nairobi, Kenya
This study investigates the association between adoption of pay-as-you-go (PAYG) liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), an emerging alternative to full cylinder LPG, and women's economic empowerment in an informal settlement in Nairobi, Kenya. From December 2021-January 2022, 293 customers of a PAYG LPG company (PayGo Energy) were surveyed on their cooking patterns, financial savings and shifts in dietary behaviors following uptake of the technology. Among PayGo Energy customers that previously cooked only with polluting fuels (N = 78; 27 % of customers), daily cooking time was reduced by an average of 42 min/day; 82 % of PayGo Energy customers that previously cooked with full cylinder LPG (N = 216; 73 % of customers) also decreased their cooking time (average of 20 min/day) when switching to PAYG LPG. The majority (58 %; N = 70) of female household heads took on additional employment after switching to PAYG LPG, compared with 36 % (N = 55) of females living in male-headed households. Among female household heads, the proportion of informal sector workers earning wages on an irregular (71 %) or daily basis (61 %) that took on new income-generating activities after transitioning to PAYG LPG was over 20 % higher than those earning monthly salaries (39 %). Increased dietary diversity and consumption of protein-rich foods (legumes, meat, fish) from cooking with PAYG LPG was reported by 15 % of female household heads compared with 5 % of those living in male-headed households. While nearly three-quarters (73 %) of PayGo Energy customers would recommend the service to others because of the added convenience it provides, only one-third (29 %) reported associated health benefits as a key reason for promoting use of PAYG LPG to community members. Female household heads were more likely than non-household heads to be socioeconomically empowered when adopting PAYG LPG, illustrating that women's agency may influence the associated benefits of clean energy transitions. Nonetheless, the time savings reported by nearly all women who switched to PAYG LPG for cooking suggests that promoting the increased convenience of cooking with PAYG LPG may be useful for accelerating its adoption
