    A study of the proton spectra following the capture of KK^- in 6^6Li and 12^{12}C with FINUDA

    Momenta spectra of protons emitted following the capture of KK^- in 6^6Li and 12^{12}C have been measured with 1% resolution. The 12^{12}C spectrum is smooth whereas for 6^6Li a well defined peak appears at about 500 MeV/cc. The first observation of a structure in this region was identified as a strange tribaryon or, possibly, a Kˉ\bar K-nuclear state. The peak is correlated with a π\pi^- coming from Σ\Sigma^- decay in flight, selected by setting momenta larger than 275 MeV/cc. The Σ\Sigma^- could be produced, together with a 500 MeV/cc proton, by the capture of a KK^- in a deuteron-cluster substructure of the 6^6Li nucleus. The capture rate for such a reaction is (1.62\pm 0.23_{stat} ^{+0.71}_{-0.44}(sys))%/K^-_{stop}, in agreement with the existing observations on 4^4He targets and with the hypothesis that the 6^6Li nucleus can be interpreted as a (d+α)(d+\alpha) cluster.Comment: 21 pages, 10 figures.     Proton spectra from Non-Mesonic Weak Decay of p-shell Lambda-Hypernuclei and evidence for the two-nucleon induced process

    New spectra from the FINUDA experiment of the Non Mesonic Weak Decay (NMWD) proton kinetic energy for 9(Lambda)Be, 11(Lambda)B, 12(Lambda)C, 13(Lambda)C, 15 (Lambda)N and 16(Lambda)O are presented and discussed along with the published data on 5(Lambda)He and 7(Lambda)Li. Exploiting the large mass number range and the low energy threshold (15 MeV) for the proton detection of FINUDA, an evaluation of both Final State Interactions (FSI) and the two nucleon induced NMWD contributions to the decay process has been done. Based on this evaluation, a linear dependence of FSI on the hypernuclear mass number A is found and for the two nucleon stimulated decay rate the experimental value of Gamma2/Gammap=0.43+-0.25 is determined for the first time. A value for the two nucleon stimulated decay rate to the total decay rate Gamma2/GammaNMWD=0.24+-0.10 is also extracted.Comment: 11 pages and 2 figure

    Fast Photon Detection for Particle Identification with COMPASS RICH-1

    Particle identification at high rates is an important challenge for many current and future high-energy physics experiments. The upgrade of the COMPASS RICH-1 detector requires a new technique for Cherenkov photon detection at count rates of several 10610^6 per channel in the central detector region, and a read-out system allowing for trigger rates of up to 100 kHz. To cope with these requirements, the photon detectors in the central region have been replaced with the detection system described in this paper. In the peripheral regions, the existing multi-wire proportional chambers with CsI photocathode are now read out via a new system employing APV pre-amplifiers and flash ADC chips. The new detection system consists of multi-anode photomultiplier tubes (MAPMT) and fast read-out electronics based on the MAD4 discriminator and the F1-TDC chip. The RICH-1 is in operation in its upgraded version for the 2006 CERN SPS run.     The production of neutron rich Λ\Lambda-hypernuclei via the (KstopK^-_stop,π+\pi^+) reaction has been studied using data collected with the FINUDA spectrometer at the DAΦ\PhiNE ϕ\phi-factory (LNF). The analysis of the inclusive π+\pi^+ momentum spectra is presented and an upper limit for the production of Λ6^6_\LambdaH and Λ7^7_\LambdaH from 6^6Li and 7^7Li, is assessed for the first time.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures.     Fast photon detection for the COMPASS RICH detector

    The COMPASS experiment at the SPS accelerator at CERN uses a large scale Ring Imaging CHerenkov detector (RICH) to identify pions, kaons and protons in a wide momentum range. For the data taking in 2006, the COMPASS RICH has been upgraded in the central photon detection area (25% of the surface) with a new technology to detect Cherenkov photons at very high count rates of several 10^6 per second and channel and a new dead-time free read-out system, which allows trigger rates up to 100 kHz. The Cherenkov photons are detected by an array of 576 visible and ultra-violet sensitive multi-anode photomultipliers with 16 channels each.     Measurement of the strong interaction induced shift and width of the 1s state of kaonic deuterium at J-PARC

    The antikaon-nucleon interaction close to threshold provides crucial information on the interplay between spontaneous and explicit chiral symmetry breaking in low-energy QCD. In this context the importance of kaonic deuterium X-ray spectroscopy has been well recognized, but no experimental results have yet been obtained due to the difficulty of the measurement. We propose to measure the shift and width of the kaonic deuterium 1s state with an accuracy of 60 eV and 140 eV respectively at J-PARC. These results together with the kaonic hydrogen data (KpX at KEK, DEAR and SIDDHARTA at DAFNE) will then permit the determination of values of both the isospin I=0 and I=1 antikaon-nucleon scattering lengths and will provide the most stringent constraints on the antikaon-nucleon interaction, promising a breakthrough. Refined Monte Carlo studies were performed, including the investigation of background suppression factors for the described setup. These studies have demonstrated the feasibility of determining the shift and width of the kaonic deuterium atom 1s state with the desired accuracy of 60 eV and 140 eV.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figure

    Structure near KK^-+pp+pp threshold in the in-flight 3^3He(K,Λp)n(K^-,\Lambda p)n reaction

    To search for an S= -1 di-baryonic state which decays to Λp\Lambda p, the 3He(K,Λp)nmissing {\rm{}^3He}(K^-,\Lambda p)n_{missing} reaction was studied at 1.0 GeV/cc. Unobserved neutrons were kinematically identified from the missing mass MXM_X of the 3He(K,Λp)X {\rm{}^3He}(K^-,\Lambda p)X reaction in order to have a large acceptance for the Λpn\Lambda pn final state. The observed Λpn\Lambda p n events, distributed widely over the kinematically allowed region of the Dalitz plot, establish that the major component comes from a three nucleon absorption process. A concentration of events at a specific neutron kinetic energy was observed in a region of low momentum transfer to the Λp\Lambda p. To account for the observed peak structure, the simplest S-wave pole was assumed to exist in the reaction channel, having Breit-Wigner form in energy and with a Gaussian form-factor. A minimum χ2\chi^2 method was applied to deduce its mass MX =M_X\ = 2355 8+6 ^{+ 6}_{ - 8} (stat.) ±12 \pm 12 (syst.) MeV/c2^2, and decay-width ΓX =\Gamma_X\ = 110 17+19 ^{+ 19}_{ - 17} (stat.) ±27 \pm 27 (syst.) MeV/c2^2, respectively. The form factor parameter QXQ_X \sim 400 MeV/cc implies that the range of interaction is about 0.5Comment: 12pages, 8 figure

    Correlated Λd\Lambda d pairs from the KstopAΛdAK^{-}_{stop} A \to \Lambda d A' reaction

    Correlated Λd\Lambda d pairs emitted after the absorption of negative kaons at rest KstopAΛdAK^{-}_{stop}A\to \Lambda d A' in light nuclei 6Li^6Li and 12C^{12}C are studied. Λ\Lambda-hyperons and deuterons are found to be preferentially emitted in opposite directions. The Λd\Lambda d invariant mass spectrum of 6Li^6Li shows a bump whose mass is 3251±\pm6 MeV/c2^2. The bump mass (binding energy), width and yield are reported. The appearance of a bump is discussed in the realm of the [Kˉ3N\bar{K}3N] clustering process in nuclei.     The giardial VPS35 retromer subunit is necessary for multimeric complex assembly and interaction with the Vacuolar protein sorting receptor

    The retromer is a pentameric protein complex that mediates the retrograde transport of acid hydrolase receptors between endosomes and the trans-Golgi network and is conserved across all eukaryotes. Unlike other eukaryotes, the endomembrane system of Giardia trophozoite is simple and is composed only of the endoplasmic reticulum and peripheral vesicles (PVs), which may represent an ancient organellar system converging compartments such as early and late endosomes and lysosomes. Sorting and trafficking of membrane proteins and soluble hydrolases from the endoplasmic reticulum to the PVs have been described as specific and conserved but whether the giardial retromer participates in receptor recycling remains elusive. Homologs of the retromer Vacuolar Protein Sorting (Vps35p, Vps26p, and Vps29p) have been identified in this parasite. Cloning the GlVPS35 subunit and antisera production enabled the localization of this protein in the PVs as well as in the cytosol. Tagged expression of the subunits was used to demonstrate their association with membranes, and immunofluorescence confocal laser scanning revealed high degrees of colabeling between the retromer subunits and also with the endoplasmic reticulum and PV compartment markers. Protein-protein interaction data revealed interaction between the subunits of GlVPS35 and the cytosolic domain of the hydrolase receptor GlVps. Altogether our data provide original information on the molecular interactions that mediate assembly of the cargo-selective retromer subcomplex and its involvement in the recycling of the acid hydrolase receptor in this parasite.Fil: Miras, Silvana.     De Jure Determinants of New Firm Formation: How the Pillars of Constitutions Influence Entrepreneurship

    This paper provides empirical evidence supporting the view that constitutions may influence the organization of economic activities. Dealing with the issue of the institutional determinants of entrepreneurship, it shows that some of the provisions contained in national constitutions are positively and significantly associated to a standard measure of entrepreneurial dynamics, namely the rate of new business density. Using a novel dataset containing the characteristics of the constitutions enacted in the world and a sample of 115 countries, the paper finds that provisions about the right to conduct/establish a business, the right to strike, consumer protection, protection of trademarks, and education promote higher rates of new firm formation
