Timing the formation and assembly of early-type galaxies via spatially resolved stellar populations analysis
To investigate star formation and assembly processes of massive galaxies, we
present here a spatially-resolved stellar populations analysis of a sample of
45 elliptical galaxies (Es) selected from the CALIFA survey. We find rather
flat age and [Mg/Fe] radial gradients, weakly dependent on the effective
velocity dispersion of the galaxy within half-light radius. However, our
analysis shows that metallicity gradients become steeper with increasing galaxy
velocity dispersion. In addition, we have homogeneously compared the stellar
populations gradients of our sample of Es to a sample of nearby relic galaxies,
i.e., local remnants of the high-z population of red nuggets. This comparison
indicates that, first, the cores of present-day massive galaxies were likely
formed in gas-rich, rapid star formation events at high redshift (z>2). This
led to radial metallicity variations steeper than observed in the local
Universe, and positive [Mg/Fe] gradients. Second, our analysis also suggests
that a later sequence of minor dry mergers, populating the outskirts of
early-type galaxies (ETGs), flattened the pristine [Mg/Fe] and metallicity
gradients. Finally, we find a tight age-[Mg/Fe] relation, supporting that the
duration of the star formation is the main driver of the [Mg/Fe] enhancement in
massive ETGs. However, the star formation time-scale alone is not able to fully
explain our [Mg/Fe] measurements. Interestingly, our results match the expected
effect that a variable stellar initial mass function would have on the [Mg/Fe]
ratio.Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRA

se evidencia un indicador beneficio-costo de 5.49 y un TIR 48%.This research study will focus on improving CREPIER's demand planning process to
identify the factors that affect the availability of products in each of the company's retail
stores.
To diagnose the problem, the internal and external analysis of the company has
been taken into account, as well as the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
respectively. In addition to detailing a flow diagram and the key operations of the
company's supply chain. With all this, a hypothesis was raised, which is supported by the
main objective of the research, and that is the implementation of a formal demand
planning process with the support of specialized software will create more accurate
forecasts, reducing errors in planning.
Due to the cause-effect diagram, it was possible to identify the root causes of the
main problems affecting sales losses and excess inventories. With this, it was proposed
to propose 4 solution proposals, which were filtered by applying a ranking of factors, thus
determining the determining solution proposal: Redesign the process with a centralized
planning model with local replenishment models supported by specialized software.
In addition, two main indicators were used: MAPE and % of losses for each
category, which were lower when simulating the use of specialized software. On the other
hand, a percentage of the MAPE's difference was obtained, since this would provide the
gain when using the specialized software.
Finally, with the mentioned data, an economic-financial evaluation was carried
out with the use of the cash flow of profit-loss of the improvement, which shows a
benefit-cost indicator of 5.49 and an IRR of 48%
Discovering transcriptional modules by Bayesian data integration
Motivation: We present a method for directly inferring transcriptional modules (TMs) by integrating gene expression and transcription factor binding (ChIP-chip) data. Our model extends a hierarchical Dirichlet process mixture model to allow data fusion on a gene-by-gene basis. This encodes the intuition that co-expression and co-regulation are not necessarily equivalent and hence we do not expect all genes to group similarly in both datasets. In particular, it allows us to identify the subset of genes that share the same structure of transcriptional modules in both datasets.
Results: We find that by working on a gene-by-gene basis, our model is able to extract clusters with greater functional coherence than existing methods. By combining gene expression and transcription factor binding (ChIP-chip) data in this way, we are better able to determine the groups of genes that are most likely to represent underlying TMs
Metabolic effects of darunavir/ritonavir versus atazanavir/ritonavir in treatment-naive, HIV Type 1-infected subjects over 48 weeks
We assessed metabolic changes for darunavir/ritonavir (DRV/r) once daily (qd) versus atazanavir/ritonavir (ATV/r) qd with fixed-dose tenofovir/emtricitabine. This was a phase 4, multicenter, open-label, randomized exploratory study. Treatment-naive, HIV-1-infected adults received DRV/r 800/100 mg qd or ATV/r 300/100 mg qd, both with emtricitabine/tenofovir 200/300 mg qd. Primary end point: change in triglyceride levels from baseline to week 12. Secondary end points: week 12 and week 48 changes in lipid parameters, insulin sensitivity, inflammatory/coagulation/bacterial translocation biomarkers, viral load, CD4(+) cell count, and week 48 changes in adipose tissue distribution and subjects' perceptions of body changes. In the DRV/r arm, 32/34 and 29/34 subjects completed weeks 12 and 48, respectively; in the ATV/r arm, 30/31 and 25/31 subjects completed weeks 12 and 48, respectively. Small changes in lipid parameters from baseline to weeks 12 and 48 were observed in both arms. Differences were noted between arms in mean changes in total cholesterol (DRV/r, 20.3 mg/dl; ATV/r, 4.6 mg/dl) and apolipoprotein A1 (DRV/r, 10.7 mg/dl; ATV/r, –0.7 mg/dl) at week 12. At week 48, no clinically relevant differences between arms were noted for changes in any lipid parameter, fasting glucose, or insulin sensitivity. Biomarkers generally decreased and efficacy parameters improved in both arms over 48 weeks. Changes in adipose tissue were small and comparable between arms. Subjects' perceptions of body changes generally improved in both study arms. This first pilot comparison in HIV-1-infected subjects suggests that DRV/r has a metabolic profile similar to ATV/r over 48 weeks of treatment. Further randomized studies are warranted

Karate consists of a multitude of actions pertonned with the undercarriage which must be carried out with the greatest force and in the shortest time possible. In this sport, jumps and kicks are two techniques that require high values of explosive force and are also the most performed in competition. There is a relationship between plyometric training and sports perfonnance, as well as between muscular asymmetries and the increase in the probability of suffering an injury. The aim of this study was to test the effects of two plyometric training methodologies, monopodal versus bipodal, on the explosive strength values of the lower body and the correction of asymmetries in karatekas. 20 competitors of the kumite modality voluntarily participated in the research. The values of the explosive force were evaluated by means of the CMJ and horizontal jump test, and the asymmetries by means of Bishop''s formula. Both training methodologies increased explosive force values and reduced asymmetries. Bipodal training was shown to be the most effective, predicting with an 80% probability an improvement in monopodal horizontal jumping with the non-dominant leg over monopodal training. Both trainings were shown to be effective in preventing injuries and improving performance
Ultra diffuse galaxies in the Hydra I cluster from the LEWIS Project: Phase-Space distribution and globular cluster richness
Although ultra diffuse galaxies (UDGs) are found in large numbers in clusters
of galaxies, the role of the cluster environment in shaping their low surface
brightness and large sizes is still uncertain. Here we examine a sample of UDGs
in the Hydra I cluster (D = 51 Mpc) with new radial velocities obtained as part
of the LEWIS (Looking into the faintest with MUSE) project using VLT/MUSE data.
Using a phase-space, or infall diagnostic, diagram we compare the UDGs to other
known galaxies in the Hydra I cluster and to UDGs in other clusters. The UDGs,
along with the bulk of regular Hydra I galaxies, have low relative velocities
and are located near the cluster core, and thus consistent with very early
infall into the cluster. Combining with literature data, we do not find the
expected trend of GC-rich UDGs associated with earlier infall times. This
result suggests that quenching mechanisms other than cluster infall should be
further considered, e.g. quenching by strong feedback or in cosmic sheets and
filaments. Tidal stripping of GCs in the cluster environment also warrants
further modelling.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, MNRAS, 525, 9
