In this paper, Augmented Reality (AR) and Videogames are presented as two technologies suitable to be applied (independently and mixed) to Climate Change issues. The article is centered on teaching-learning, sensitization and awareness campaigns about Climate Change. On one hand, Augmented Reality and some examples of Climate-Change-related applications are presented. On the other hand, videogames are presented as useful tools for learning under the philosophy of Digital Game-Based Learning (DGBL). Some principles of DGBL are discussed and some examples of videogames applied to Climate Change issues are presented. Lastly Augmented Reality games are explored and an early classification is introduced. Finally, it is concluded that videogames and Augmented Reality are two current technologies that must be applied to processes related to education on climate change due to their features and nature

A Case-based Reasoning Approach to Validate Grammatical Gender and Number Agreement in Spanish language

Across Latin America 420 indigenous languages are spoken. Spanish is considered a second language in indigenous communities and is progressively introduced in education. However, most of the tools to support teaching processes of a second language have been developed for the most common languages such as English, French, German, Italian, etc. As a result, only a small amount of learning objects and authoring tools have been developed for indigenous people considering the specific needs of their population. This paper introduces Multilingual–Tiny as a web authoring tool to support the virtual experience of indigenous students and teachers when they are creating learning objects in indigenous languages or in Spanish language, in particular, when they have to deal with the grammatical structures of Spanish. Multilingual–Tiny has a module based on the Case-based Reasoning technique to provide recommendations in real time when teachers and students write texts in Spanish. An experiment was performed in order to compare some local similarity functions to retrieve cases from the case library taking into account the grammatical structures. As a result we found the similarity function with the best performance

En: Educational Technology & Society, Vol. 17, No. 4, pp. 133–149In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in applying Augmented Reality (AR) to create unique educational settings. So far, however, there is a lack of review studies with focus on investigating factors such as: the uses, advantages, limitations, effectiveness, challenges and features of augmented reality in educational settings. Personalization for promoting an inclusive learning using AR is also a growing area of interest. This paper reports a systematic review of literature on augmented reality in educational settings considering the factors mentioned before. In total, 32 studies published between 2003 and 2013 in 6 indexed journals were analyzed. The main findings from this review provide the current state of the art on research in AR in education. Furthermore, the paper discusses trends and the vision towards the future and opportunities for further research in augmented reality for educational settings

Label Space Reduction in MPLS Networks: How Much Can A Single Stacked Label Do?

    Get PDF
Most network operators have considered reducing LSR label spaces (number of labels used) as a way of simplifying management of underlaying virtual private networks (VPNs) and therefore reducing operational expenditure (OPEX). The IETF outlined the label merging feature in MPLS-allowing the configuration of multipoint-to-point connections (MP2P)-as a means of reducing label space in LSRs. We found two main drawbacks in this label space reduction a)it should be separately applied to a set of LSPs with the same egress LSR-which decreases the options for better reductions, and b)LSRs close to the edge of the network experience a greater label space reduction than those close to the core. The later implies that MP2P connections reduce the number of labels asymmetricall

Educational Robotics Intervention in the Motivation of Students

Nowadays technological developments have been used as educational mediations. An example has been working in the classroom with robots for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), however it is important to determine the effects of robots in the classroom, mainly on motivation issues. This article shows a review of related works in educational robotics and their effects, in the same way a methodology is proposed to work in the classroom with effects on student motivation

    Survey of smart parking systems

    Get PDF
The large number of vehicles constantly seeking access to congested areas in cities means that finding a public parking place is often difficult and causes problems for drivers and citizens alike. In this context, strategies that guide vehicles from one point to another, looking for the most optimal path, are needed. Most contributions in the literature are routing strategies that take into account different criteria to select the optimal route required to find a parking space. This paper aims to identify the types of smart parking systems (SPS) that are available today, as well as investigate the kinds of vehicle detection techniques (VDT) they have and the algorithms or other methods they employ, in order to analyze where the development of these systems is at today. To do this, a survey of 274 publications from January 2012 to December 2019 was conducted. The survey considered four principal features: SPS types reported in the literature, the kinds of VDT used in these SPS, the algorithms or methods they implement, and the stage of development at which they are. Based on a search and extraction of results methodology, this work was able to effectively obtain the current state of the research area. In addition, the exhaustive study of the studies analyzed allowed for a discussion to be established concerning the main difficulties, as well as the gaps and open problems detected for the SPS. The results shown in this study may provide a base for future research on the subject.Fil: Diaz Ogás, Mathias Gabriel. Universidad Nacional de San Juan. Un esquema de optimización no lineal aplicada a la transmisión de n-flujos multicast realizando balanceo de carga en redes MPLS

    Get PDF
