Deep into the Water Fountains: The case of IRAS 18043-2116
(Abridged) The formation of large-scale (hundreds to few thousands of AU)
bipolar structures in the circumstellar envelopes (CSEs) of post-Asymptotic
Giant Branch (post-AGB) stars is poorly understood. The shape of these
structures, traced by emission from fast molecular outflows, suggests that the
dynamics at the innermost regions of these CSEs does not depend only on the
energy of the radiation field of the central star. Deep into the Water
Fountains is an observational project based on the results of programs carried
out with three telescope facilities: The Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array
(JVLA), The Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), and the Very Large
Telescope (SINFONI-VLT). Here we report the results of the observations towards
the WF nebula IRAS 180432116: Detection of radio continuum emission in the
frequency range 1.5GHz - 8.0GHz; HO maser spectral features and radio
continuum emission detected at 22GHz, and H ro-vibrational emission lines
detected at the near infrared. The high-velocity HO maser spectral
features, and the shock-excited H emission detected could be produced in
molecular layers which are swept up as a consequence of the propagation of a
jet-driven wind. Using the derived H column density, we estimated a
molecular mass-loss rate of the order of Myr. On the
other hand, if the radio continuum flux detected is generated as a consequence
of the propagation of a thermal radio jet, the mass-loss rate associated to the
outflowing ionized material is of the order of 10Myr.
The presence of a rotating disk could be a plausible explanation for the
mass-loss rates estimated.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures. Accepted for publication in A&
Development and experimental evaluation of the control system of a hybrid fuel cell vehicle
This work presents the development and experimental evaluation of a Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle, focusing on the control system. The main objective of this paper is to present a real vehicle which has been designed in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the use of hydrogen as an energy source for automotive applications.
The paper describes the components that are integrated in the vehicle and presents several experimental results obtained during normal operation. A control system is designed and tested in order to perform all the operations related to the coordinated operation of the fuel cell, the intermediate electrical storage and the power train. Its main task is to compute the power that must be demanded to the fuel cell in real time. This computation is done in order to satisfy the power demand of the electric motor taking into account the state of charge of the batteries and the operating regime of the fuel cell. This is accomplished by manipulating the electronic converter which regulate the current that the fuel cell supplies to the batteries.
noise and integrable systems
An innovative test for detecting quantum chaos based on the analysis of the
spectral fluctuations regarded as a time series has been recently proposed.
According to this test, the fluctuations of a fully chaotic system should
exhibit 1/f noise, whereas for an integrable system this noise should obey the
1/f^2 power law. In this letter, we show that there is a family of well-known
integrable systems, namely spin chains of Haldane-Shastry type, whose spectral
fluctuations decay instead as 1/f^4. We present a simple theoretical
justification of this fact, and propose an alternative characterization of
quantum chaos versus integrability formulated directly in terms of the power
spectrum of the spacings of the unfolded spectrum.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, RevTe

Integral Field Spectroscopy of HH 262: The Spectral Atlas
HH 262 is a group of emitting knots displaying an "hour-glass" morphology in
the Halpha and [SII] lines, located 3.5' to the northeast of the young stellar
object L1551-IRS5, in Taurus. We present new results of the kinematics and
physical conditions of HH 262 based on Integral Field Spectroscopy covering a
field of 1.5'x3', which includes all the bright knots in HH 262. These data
show complex kinematics and significant variations in physical conditions over
the mapped region of HH 262 on a spatial scale of <3". A new result derived
from the IFS data is the weakness of the [NII] emission (below detection limit
in most of the mapped region of HH 262), including the brightest central knots.
Our data reinforce the association of HH 262 with the redshifted lobe of the
evolved molecular outflow L1551-IRS5. The interaction of this outflow with a
younger one, powered by L1551 NE, around the position of HH 262 could give rise
to the complex morphology and kinematics of HH 262.Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRA
A ringed pole-on outflow from DO Tauri revealed by ALMA
We present new ALMA Band 6 observations including the CO (2-1) line and 1.3 mmcontinuum emission from the surroundings of the young stellar object DO Tauri. TheALMA CO molecular data show three different series of rings at different radial ve-locities. These rings have radii around 220 au and 800 au. We make individual fits tothe rings and note that their centers are aligned with DO Tauri and its optical high-velocity jet. In addition, we notice that the velocity of these structures increases withthe separation from the young star. We discuss the data under the hypothesis that therings represent velocity cuts through three outflowing shells that are possibly drivenby a wide-angle wind, dragging the environment material along a direction close to theline of sight (i= 19◦). We estimate the dynamical ages, the mass, the momentum andthe energy of each individual outflow shell and those of the whole outflow. The resultsare in agreement with those found in outflows from Class II sources. We make a roughestimate for the size of the jet/wind launching region, which needs to be of.15 au.We report the physical characteristics of DO Tauri?s disk continuum emission (almostface-on and with a projected major axis in the north-south direction) and its velocitygradient orientation (north-south), indicative of disk rotation for a 1-2 Mcentral star. Finally we show an HST [SII] image of the optical jet and report a measurement of itsorientation in the plane of the sky.Fil: Fernandez Lopez, Manuel.
