    Unquenched Numerical Stochastic Perturbation Theory

The inclusion of fermionic loops contribution in Numerical Stochastic Perturbation Theory (NSPT) has a nice feature: it does not cost so much (provided only that an FFT can be implemented in a fairly efficient way). Focusing on Lattice SU(3), we report on the performance of the current implementation of the algorithm and the status of first computations undertaken.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures, Lattice2002(algor

APENet: LQCD clusters a la APE

    Get PDF
Developed by the APE group, APENet is a new high speed, low latency, 3-dimensional interconnect architecture optimized for PC clusters running LQCD-like numerical applications. The hardware implementation is based on a single PCI-X 133MHz network interface card hosting six indipendent bi-directional channels with a peak bandwidth of 676 MB/s each direction. We discuss preliminary benchmark results showing exciting performances similar or better than those found in high-end commercial network systems.Comment: Lattice2004(machines), 3 pages, 4 figure

Influence of thermal diffusion on the laser ablation of thin polymer films

    Get PDF
The laser ablation of a photosensitive triazene polymer was investigated with a ns XeCl excimer laser over a broad range of thicknesses (10-400nm). We found that the ablation threshold fluence increased dramatically with decreasing film thickness for films thinner than 50nm. Ablation on substrates with different thermal properties (sapphire, fused silica, PMMA) was investigated as well, and a clear influence of the substrate material was obtained. A mathematical model combining thermal diffusion and absorption effects was used to explain the experimental data. The model is in good agreement with the experimental data and shows that heat diffusion into the substrate plays a crucial role for the ablation process of very thin film

X-ray Absorption Linear Dichroism at the Ti K-edge of TiO2 anatase single crystal

Anatase TiO2 (a-TiO2) exhibits a strong X-ray absorption linear dichroism with the X-ray incidence angle in the pre-edge, the XANES and the EXAFS at the titanium K-edge. In the pre-edge region the behaviour of the A1-A3 and B peaks, originating from the 1s-3d transitions, is due to the strong pp-orbital polarization and strong pdp-d orbital mixing. An unambiguous assignment of the pre-edge peak transitions is made in the monoelectronic approximation with the support of ab initio finite difference method calculations and spherical tensor analysis in quantitative agreement with the experiment. It is found that A1 is mostly an on-site 3d-4p hybridized transition, while peaks A3 and B are non-local transitions, with A3 being mostly dipolar and influence by the 3d-4p intersite hybridization, while B is due to interactions at longer range. Finally, peak A2 which was previously assigned to a transition involving pentacoordinated titanium atoms exhibits a quadrupolar angular evolution with incidence angle. These results pave the way to the use of the pre-edge peaks at the K-edge of a-TiO2 to characterize the electronic structure of related materials and in the field of ultrafast XAS where the linear dichroism can be used to compare the photophysics along different axes.Comment: 43 pages, 19 figure

Comparison of four methods to assess high-on platelet reactivity under P2Y12 receptor inhibitor

P2Y12 receptor inhibitors are antiplatelet agents commonly prescribed in the treatment of coronary artery disease. Their efficacy can be limited by high on-treatment platelet reactivity (HPR), which can be evaluated by different biological assays. Most commonly, HPR is evaluated by flow cytometric vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein-phosphorylation (VASP-P) assay, which can be time consuming. To evaluate the potential interest of novel technologies, we compared four different assays. Ninety patients receiving P2Y12 inhibitors were included. Four technologies were evaluated: the current standard test measuring VASP-P by flow cytometry, the historical reference test based on light transmittance aggregation (LTA), and two relatively novel techniques: whole blood multiple electrode aggregometry (MEA) and platelet function analyzer (PFA), which are less time consuming. The three latter tests were compared with the VASP-P assay as a reference using receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analysis: LTA has an excellent comparability with the VASP test (ROC AUC > 0.9); the other two tests (multiplate and PFA) have only satisfactory comparability (ROC AUC around 0.7) and therefore may not replace the VASP "gold standard" test, if importance is attached to a quantitative assessment of the substitution parameter of VASP. Nevertheless, if a binary approach of the anti-aggregation result is sought, then one can conclude that the three tests are equivalent since Cohen\u27s kappa coefficients are very close for the three tests (k = 0.548 for LTA; k = 0.554 for MEA; k = 0.570 for PFA/P2Y), and a similar proportion of patients are misclassified (15% for LTA, 14% for MEA, and 13.6% for PFA). Discriminant factor analysis using all the parameters provided by each test did not improve the diagnostic performance of MEA or PFA. In conclusion, only LTA shows a good comparability to the VASP assay using ROC curve analysis, probably because misclassified patients have results close to the cutoff values. All three tests have moderate agreement regarding the classification of patients as responders to P2Y12 inhibition

The influence of lithium excess in the target on the properties andcompositions of Li1+ x Mn2O4− δ thin films prepared by PLD

    Get PDF
Li-Mn-O thin films were deposited by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) onto stainless steel substrates using targets containing different concentrations of added Li2O. The influence of the target composition on the stoichiometry of the resulting thin films, the surface morphology and the electrochemical properties was studied. The application of the target with added 7.5 mol% Li2O results in an almost ideal lithium content, while all films were still oxygen deficient. The thin films were applied as electrodes in Li//Li1+x Mn2O4−δ cells (i.e. model cells for a rechargeable Li-ion battery) and characterized by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge/discharge experiments. The electrochemical measurements of the thin films confirmed that the thin films can serve as good model systems and that they show a sufficient cyclabilit
