Walking around Barcelona, the dark city: from downtown to the peripheral neighborhoods

Des de Rafael Tasis, que defensà la necessitat d’un estol de novel·listes que narressin la grandesa i les misèries de la ciutat comtal, han estat molts els autors que s’han deixat seduir per aquesta geografia: des de Manuel de Pedrolo i Tomás Salvador, passant per Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, Jaume Fuster i Andreu Martín, fins arribar als més actuals com Toni Hill, o Carlos Zanón.Barcelona is one of the epicentres of the detective stories. Utilización de la capacidad productiva y capitalismo avanzado: un esquema kaleckiano

El objeto de este artículo es plantear un modelo representativo de una economía capitalista avanzada. El tratamiento básicamente formal obligará a utilizar supuestos, a veces bastante restrictivos, en aras de una simplificación que permita manejar el modelo sin grandes dificultades. Las conclusiones básicas no se ven afectadas de forma fundamental por esos supuestos. Lo que podría ganarse en exactitud y rigor no compensaría, en este caso, la pérdida de claridad en la exposición. Dicho modelo presenta, a mi juicio, y de forma subsidiaria un planteamiento más intuitivo y esclarecedor de las relaciones básicas m¡¡croeconómicas que las presentaciones convencionales de inspiración keynesiana. En suma, se presentan integrados las principales aportaciones tanto de Keynes como de Kalecki, superando las viejas polémicas de quien tuvo prioridad o cual de ellas tuvo una "visión" del sistema capitalista más general

Mathematica for teaching Maths at the ETSAV

Maths constitute a key tool in order to learn different subjects in the studies of Architecture. In contrast, the students tend to believe that maths are an independent box with little connection with other subjects of their studies and their future professional life. In this communication we want to present the experience that we implemented in the subject “Matemàtiques 2” in one specific group of second course in the studies of Architecture at the UPV, consisting in applying the methodology known as “flip teaching”, with the purpose that the students had more participation in their learning process. On the other hand, in order that the students can experience the applied character of the contents given in “Matemàtiques 2”, we gave them as a work in groups the mathematical modelling of different pieces in Architecture by using the software Mathematica of Wolfram.Les matemàtiques constitueixen una eina fonamental per a l'aprenentatge de les diferents assignatures en els estudis d'Arquitectura. No obstant això, els estudiants tendeixen a percebre aquestes com un compartiment independent amb poca connexió amb la resta d'assignatures i amb la seua posterior vida laboral. En aquesta comunicació volem presentar l'experiència duta a terme a l'assignatura de Matemàtiques 2 en un dels grups de segon curs del grau de Fonaments a l'Arquitectura de la UPV, en què hem implementat la metodologia denominada "docència inversa" o "flip teaching" amb el propòsit que els alumnes tinguen un major protagonisme en el seu aprenentatge. Per altra banda, per tal de que els alumnes puguen experimentar el caràcter aplicat dels continguts de l'assignatura Matemàtiques 2, els proposem com a treball la modelització de diferents obres arquitectòniques utilitzant el programari Mathematica de Wolfram

Accelerated Internationalisation: New Evidence from a late investor country

Recent studies are trying to adapt the explanation of the internationalisation process to new environmental conditions. By using cluster analysis and logit regressions in a sample of 271 Spanish export firms, this paper offers evidence of the existence of a group of firms that use a speed-up internationalisation process. The results obtained support the claim that substantial differences do exist between Fast and Gradual Internationalising firms. The firms included in the more international active group are characterised by: (1) a proactive attitude on the part of managers with regard to internationalisation activities, (b) a strategy based on marketing differentiation advantages and (c) strong relationships with clients and suppliers, which encourage or facilitate their international activities. These results may favour reflection upon what are the most important factors for achieving an active, international strategy and how to respond to these demands. From a politics perspective our research suggests several ways to stimulate the acceleration of the internationalisation process. Politicians must realise the importance of looking for ways of improving the promotion of business networks. The stimulation of relationships between firms will reduce the uncertainty associated with the risks of foreign operations and increase the international competitiveness of firms. Moreover, they should provide incentives for business leaders to adopt an increasingly positive attitude to the international market. Tax benefits and other incentives could be provided to increase the international work experience of managers and employees
