    All-Printed Multilayers and Blends of Poly(dioxythiophene) Derivatives Patterned into Flexible Electrochromic Displays

    Low-cost, flexible and thin display technology is becoming an interesting field of research as it can accompany the wide range of sensors being developed. Here, the synthesis of poly(dimethylpropylene-dioxythiophene) (PProDOT-Me-2) by combining vapor phase polymerization and screen printing is presented. A multilayer architecture using poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) and PProDOT-Me-2 to allow for electrochromic switching of PProDOT-Me-2, thereby eliminating the need for a supporting transparent conductive (metal oxide) layer is introduced. Furthermore, the technology is adapted to a blended architecture, which removes the additional processing steps and results in improved color contrast ( increment E* > 25). This blend architecture is extended to other conductive polymers, such as PEDOT and polypyrrole (PPy), to highlight the ability of the technique to adjust the color of all-printed electrochromic displays. As a result, a green color is obtained when combining the blue and yellow states of PEDOT and PPy, respectively. This technology has the potential to pave the way for all-printed multicolored electrochromic displays for further utilization in printed electronic systems in various Internet of Things applications

    Design and Development of OECT Logic Circuits for Electrical Stimulation Applications

    This paper presents the first successful implementation of fully printed electronics for flexible and wearable smart multi-pad stimulation electrodes intended for use in medical, sports and lifestyle applications. The smart multi-pad electrodes with the electronic circuits based on organic electrochemical transistor (OECT)-based electronic circuits comprising the 3–8 decoder for active pad selection and high current throughput transistors for switching were produced by multi-layer screen printing. Devices with different architectures of switching transistors were tested in relevant conditions for electrical stimulation applications. An automated testbed with a configurable stimulation source and an adjustable human model equivalent circuit was developed for this purpose. Three of the proposed architectures successfully routed electrical currents of up to 15 mA at an output voltage of 30 V, while one was reliably performing even at 40 V. The presented results demonstrate feasibility of the concept in a range of conditions relevant to several applications of electrical stimulation.This research is part of the WEARPLEX project, funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 research program under grant agreement number 825339

    Den, hen, hon eller han? En enkätstudie om pronomenanvändning vid animat generisk syftning i årskurs 9

    I svenskan idag finns det inget självklart pronomen att använda vid animat generisk syftning, dvs. när vi syftar på en person vars könstillhörighet är irrelevant eller okänd, utan variationsmöjligheterna är flera. När vi i dessa situationer ska välja pronomen gör vi inte det godtyckligt, utan det är ett val som påverkas av olika faktorer. En faktor verkar vara vilka semantiska associationer korrelatet skapar hos oss. Syftet med den här undersökningen har varit att undersöka vilka pronomen elever i årskurs 9 på högstadiet använder för att uttrycka animat generisk syftning och hur valet påverkas av korrelatet. För att kunna göra det har en enkät besvarats av 114 elever. I enkäten, som bestod av 20 exempelmeningar, fick eleverna välja något av alternativen hon, han, hon/han, han/hon, den eller hen för att syfta tillbaka på ett korrelat tidigare i meningen. Samtliga korrelat utgörs av person- och yrkesbeteckningar som idag används som könsneutrala beteckningar, men det behöver inte betyda att de av alla upplevs som könsneutrala. Korrelaten är indelade i substantiv som traditionellt associeras till kvinnor (grupp 1) respektive män (grupp 2), substantiv som vanligtvis associeras som könsneutrala (grupp 3) samt kvantitativa pronomen dvs. pronomen som beskriver en mängd, en grupp eller ett urval ur en mängd eller grupp (grupp 4). Resultatet är inte entydigt, utan det finns stora individuella skillnader.     We depend on the ecosystem services that nature provides, such as water and air purification. In cities, ecosystem services are decreasing because of anthropogenic activities. To avoid a further reduction in ecosystem services, it is necessary to start mapping ecosystem services. The aim of this study is to develop a GIS-based mapping methodology for these services and to validate this methodology by applying it to two urban areas in Varberg, Sweden. The urban ecosystem services we selected to map in this study are habitats, biodiversity, food production, freshwater, noise reduction, climate regulation, air filtration, pollination, social interactions and health. This study includes a literature review, a field study and a GIS-based working process containing geographic data in ArcMap 10.5.1. Thirteen different policy options, which increase ecosystem services, are listed in the report. The developed five-step methodology include processing, mapping, visualization and analysis. The results show that being able to map urban ecosystem services is a prerequisite to incorporating ecosystem services into city planning. The developed method can also help to map and protect ecosystem services in cities when new urban areas are developed and to promote a sustainable development.

    Printed passive matrix addressed electrochromic displays

    Flexible displays are attracting considerable attention as a visual interface for applications such as in electronic papers and paper electronics. Passive or active matrix-addressing of individual pixels require display elements that include proper signal addressability, which is typically provided by non-linear device characteristics or by incorporating transistors into each pixel, respectively. Including such additional devices into each pixel element make manufacturing of flexible displays using adequate printing techniques very hard or even impossible. Here, we report all-printed passive matrix-addressed electrochromic displays (PMAD) that can be manufactured using standard printing tools. Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) serves as the conducting and electrochromic pixel electrodes and carbon paste is used as the pixel counter electrodes. These electrodes sandwich self-assembled layers of a polyelectrolyte that are confined to desired pixel areas via surface energy patterning. The particular choice of materials results in a desired current vs. voltage threshold that enables addressability in electronic cross-point matrices. The resulting PMAD, built up from a robust architecture including only few different materials, operates at less than 3 V, exhibits high color switch contrast without any cross-talk promises for high-volume and low-cost production of flexible displays using reel-to-reel printing tools on plastic foils and on paper.Funding agencies|Lintec Corporation||</p
