    Reactivity Indexes and Structure of Fullerenes

    The discovery of fullerenes and their production in measurable quantities launched many studies about their reactivity and possible applications. Their peculiar structure opened possibilities for their study, initially replacing carbon atoms with alternative atoms. The surface also offers the possibility of attaching several species and the interior of their hollow structure represents a challenge because of the possibility of confining elements or molecules that may become less stable when attached to the exterior of the cage. These modifications may considerably affect both chemical and physical properties. In this chapter, we propose the encapsulation of 3–10 nitrogen atoms as aggregates inside the C70 cage. We also study the structures and reactivity indexes and the stabilization conferred as a result of being part of the fullerene. These aggregates are mainly of interest because of their possible application as energetic materials

    [EN] Information about plant gathering by Palaeolithic hunter-gatherers in Europe is scarce because of the problems of preservation of plant remains in archaeological sites and due to the lack of application of archaebotanical analysis in many of them. Botanical macroremains wood charcoal, seeds, fruits, leaves, etc. - provide information not only about palaeoeconomy of hunter-gatherers, but also about climate, landscape and vegetation dynamics. In Gravettian and Solutrean levels of Cova de les Cendres (Alicante, Spain), Corema album pyrenes (Empetraceae or crowberries family) have been identified. On the contrary, wood charcoal of this species has not been documented among the remains of firewood. This differential presence of plant organs, together with the nutritional value of its fruits, which is presented here, make us hypothesize the systematic gathering of C. album fruits for human consumption. They have a high content in vitamin C, as well as potassium, magnesium and copper. Corema album (camariria) is a unique species, nowadays in danger of extinction. Its main population is located on the Atlantic coast of Iberian Peninsula, but in 1996 a small population was discovered on the Mediterranean Iberian coast (Benidorm, Spain). Archaeobotanical data from Cova de les Cendres (Teulada-Moraira, Spain) presented here point to a larger population of camariria during Upper Palaeolithic on the coast of Alicante. The harsh climatic conditions of the Last Glacial Maximum during Solutrean period, with colder temperatures and aridity increase, could explain the reduction of the presence of C album remains until its absence in Magdalenian. The climatic amelioration during Upper Magdalenian did not mean the recovery of camariria population in the Moraira headland area. Probably, the rising of the sea level would affect them destroying its dune habitat. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd.     Normal tissue content impact on the GBM molecular classification.

    Molecular classification of glioblastoma has enabled a deeper understanding of the disease. The four-subtype model (including Proneural, Classical, Mesenchymal and Neural) has been replaced by a model that discards the Neural subtype, found to be associated with samples with a high content of normal tissue. These samples can be misclassified preventing biological and clinical insights into the different tumor subtypes from coming to light. In this work, we present a model that tackles both the molecular classification of samples and discrimination of those with a high content of normal cells. We performed a transcriptomic in silico analysis on glioblastoma (GBM) samples (n = 810) and tested different criteria to optimize the number of genes needed for molecular classification. We used gene expression of normal brain samples (n = 555) to design an additional gene signature to detect samples with a high normal tissue content. Microdissection samples of different structures within GBM (n = 122) have been used to validate the final model. Finally, the model was tested in a cohort of 43 patients and confirmed by histology. Based on the expression of 20 genes, our model is able to discriminate samples with a high content of normal tissue and to classify the remaining ones. We have shown that taking into consideration normal cells can prevent errors in the classification and the subsequent misinterpretation of the results. Moreover, considering only samples with a low content of normal cells, we found an association between the complexity of the samples and survival for the three molecular subtypes.pre-print2217 K

    Stability of the Fe23Zr6 phase in Zr alloys

    Alloyed with iron (Fe), niobium (Nb) and tin (Sn), zirconium (Zr) is the main element in the Zirlo-type alloys, vastly used as structural elements and as containers of burnable elements in nuclear reactors. Although Zr is a major component in this type of alloys, it is most important to know the phase diagrams of their components as well as possible. The binary phase diagram of the Fe-Zr system has been studied for some time now by several authors. However, in the Fe-rich region the existence of the Fe23Zr6 compound, which was first described in 1962, remains controversial. To clarify the origin of this phase, the present work deals with the manufacture and prolonged heat treatments at different temperatures of alloys located in the Fe-rich region of the Fe-Nb-Zr, Fe-Sn-Zr and Fe-Zr phase diagram. The experiments have been performed with raw materials whose degree of purity was varied. The phases present were identified by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), semi quantitative microanalysis by using scanning electron microscopy analysis with energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM-EDS) and quantitative microanalysis by using electron microprobe with wavelength dispersive spectrometry (SEM-WDS). Finally, by using the results of characterization of heat-treated alloys for long annealing times at different temperatures, it is suggested that the presence of the Fe23Zr6 compound is an equilibrium phase of the Fe-Zr binary system.Fil: Tolosa, Martín Rodrigo.     Unravelling data for rapid evidence-based response to COVID-19: a summary of the unCoVer protocol

    Introduction unCoVer - Unravelling data for rapid evidence-based response to COVID-19 - is a Horizon 2020-funded network of 29 partners from 18 countries capable of collecting and using real-world data (RWD) derived from the response and provision of care to patients with COVID-19 by health systems across Europe and elsewhere. unCoVer aims to exploit the full potential of this information to rapidly address clinical and epidemiological research questions arising from the evolving pandemic. Methods and analysis From the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, partners are gathering RWD from electronic health records currently including information from over 22 000 hospitalised patients with COVID-19, and national surveillance and screening data, and registries with over 1 900 000 COVID-19 cases across Europe, with continuous updates. These heterogeneous datasets will be described, harmonised and integrated into a multi-user data repository operated through Opal-DataSHIELD, an interoperable open-source server application. Federated data analyses, without sharing or disclosing any individual-level data, will be performed with the objective to reveal patients' baseline characteristics, biomarkers, determinants of COVID-19 prognosis, safety and effectiveness of treatments, and potential strategies against COVID-19, as well as epidemiological patterns. These analyses will complement evidence from efficacy/safety clinical trials, where vulnerable, more complex/heterogeneous populations and those most at risk of severe COVID-19 are often excluded. Ethics and dissemination After strict ethical considerations, databases will be available through a federated data analysis platform that allows processing of available COVID-19 RWD without disclosing identification information to analysts and limiting output to data aggregates. Dissemination of unCoVer's activities will be related to the access and use of dissimilar RWD, as well as the results generated by the pooled analyses.     Este trabajo presenta un documento fechado el 8 de octubre de 1732, en el cual el Doctor Joseph de la peña y Flores, de la Cd. De México, se acusa a sí mismo ante la Inquisición española de haber renunciado a su fe católica, haber usado objetos prohibidos y hierbas y haber hecho ritos en honor del diablo. Fue absuelto por el Santo Oficio, pero 31 días después, en otro documento fechado el 8 de enero de 1763, encontramos una autoacusación similar por el Doctor Peña de la cual también fue perdonado

    El presente estudio se aplicó a una persona adulta mayor hospitalizada en el servicio de Emergencia de una clínica privada de Iquitos con diagnóstico médico de crisis hipertensiva e insuficiencia respiratoria. El objetivo fue gestionar el proceso de atención de enfermería en la persona de estudio, mediante la metodología del proceso de atención de enfermería (PAE). Esta investigación fue de enfoque cualitativo, tipo caso único. La valoración utilizó un instrumento basado en los 11 patrones funcionales de Marjory Gordon, el mismo que, fue revisado por expertos, identificándose cinco patrones alterados luego del análisis de los datos; se seleccionó 10 diagnósticos de enfermería basados en la taxonomía NANDA, de los cuales se priorizaron tres para el planeamiento: el primero, deterioro del intercambio gaseoso; el segundo, disminución del gasto cardiaco y el tercero, perfusión tisular periférica ineficaz. En la siguiente fase se planificó los resultados e intervenciones de enfermería considerando la clasificación NOC y NIC. Finalmente, se evaluó la eficacia de las intervenciones, comparando la puntuación basal y final de los resultados, obteniendo una puntuación de cambio entre +2, +2 y +2 respectivamente. Se concluyó que, luego de la identificación de los problemas de la persona se aplicó el PAE, obteniendo una mejora en el estado de salud, resaltando la importancia de una atención temprana y eficaz para lo cual es indispensable la capacitación del profesional de enfermería.LIMAEscuela de PosgradoAtención en Enfermerí

    Intervención educativa sobre el uso del Nifedipino

    Se realiza un estudio de intervención capacitante sobre la utilización del nifedipino en el grupo básico de trabajo # 1 del Policlínico Universitario “Mártires del 4 de Agosto”, en el período comprendido desde enero a diciembre del 2004. El universo de estudio estuvo constituido por 70 pacientes hipertensos consumidores de nifedipino y 16 prescriptores de dicho grupo básico. Las variables utilizadas son: edad, sexo, escolaridad, calidad de la prescripción, cumplimiento y factores que influyeron en la terapéutica, nivel de competencia, errores en la prescripción y opinión de los pacientes. El porcentaje se utilizó en los datos cuantitativos y Chi cuadrado como significación estadística. Se evidencia bajo nivel de conocimiento de los pacientes y prescriptores, así como, incumplimiento en la terapéutica debido a inadecuada prescripción, olvido y reacciones adversas al medicamento. El programa educativo incluye la evaluación del nivel de competencia de los prescriptores, el nivel de conocimiento de los pacientes, la reducción de la tasa de utilización de fármaco y la satisfacción médica recibida por los pacientes
