Niezadowalający stan uzębienia pacjentów z wadami zastawkowymi serca
Cele: Ocena stanu uzębienia i stężenia białka C-reaktywnego (CRP) u pacjentów z wadamizastawkowymi serca i sztucznymi zastawkami, hospitalizowanych w warszawskich szpitalach,w kontekście ryzyka rozwoju infekcyjnego zapalenia wsierdzia (IZW). Porównanie ich z pacjentamibez wad zastawkowych i bez sztucznych zastawek. Ocena zależności pomiędzy wskaźnikamistanu uzębienia a stężeniem CRP wśród pacjentów z wadami zastawkowymi sercai sztucznymi zastawkami.Materiały i metody: Do badania włączono 491 pacjentów (216 kobiet, wiek 21–98 lat).Grupę badaną z wadami zastawkowymi serca stanowiło 208 pacjentów (94 kobiety), grupę zesztucznymi zastawkami 28 pacjentów (11 kobiet). Przeprowadzono ankietę zawierającą pytaniao choroby przewlekłe badanych oraz wywiad stomatologiczny. Z dokumentacji medycznejpacjentów uzyskano dane echokardiograficzne oraz stężenie CRP. Badanie stomatologiczneprzeprowadzono według standardów. Stan uzębienia określono za pomocą wskaźników: API(approximal plaque index), mAPI (zmodyfikowany API), WP (wskaźnik próchnicy).Wyniki: W grupie z wadami zastawkowymi serca: ostatnia wizyta u stomatologa przed najwyżejrokiem — 36,1% pacjentów, przed 2–5 lat — 27,9%, 6 i więcej lat temu — 36,1%; nieprawidłowahigiena jamy ustnej — 50%, próchnica — 30,3%, kamień nazębny — 55,8%, bezzębność— 37,5%, API ≥ 0,6 — 44,7%, mAPI ≥ 0,6 — 40,8%, WP > 5 — 24,0%. W grupie zesztucznymi zastawkami: ostatnia wizyta u stomatologa przed najwyżej rokiem — 25% pacjentów,przed 2–5 lat — 32,1%, 6 i więcej lat temu — 42,9%, nieprawidłowa higiena jamy ustnej— 71,4%, próchnica — 21,4%, kamień nazębny — 57,1%, bezzębność — 32,1%, API ≥ 0,6 —50%, mAPI ≥ 0,6 — 50%, WP > 5 — 3,6%.
War and politics. The 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and refugee crisis on the eastern EU border from the perspective of border studies
Since February 24, 2022, we have been witnessing the next stage of what began in the 2014 Russo-Ukrainian War: a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine. For the first time in the history of the European Union, the intensive armed conflict is now approaching the border of the EU and Schengen Zone. The consequences of war: the refugee crisis, humanitarian aid, and economic problems have affected EU countries both immediately and directly. While keeping in mind the human tragedy and the tragedy of Ukraine, we would like to address a few important questions from the perspective of regional and border scholars. From this perspective, the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine is another stage of the new political order in Europe, preceded by the war in Ukraine that started in 2014, the 2015 migration crisis, 2021 Belarus-EU border crisis, which altogether – from the perspective of the border studies – could be described as re-bordering and securitization of borderlands.
In this joint editorial, we address four main questions. Firstly, how we can interpret the Russian invasion in the wider, historical context, taking the frontier thesis as an explanatory category developed by Turner (1994). Secondly, the Ukrainian refugee crisis, in the context of the previous Belarusian-EU border crisis, is a multi-layered issue, where religion, gender, geopolitics, and rationales meet. Thirdly, apart from the military and political actions, war and refugee flux could be seen from the perspective of a grassroots movement of aid. Fourthly, the war in Ukraine brings uncertainty and questions about democracy and peace in Western Europe

Narrating Divided Cities: The Theoretical and Methodological Framework
The notion of narratives can be regarded as a significant tool to map the complex means by which social
relations are organized, made meaningful, and maintained (Somers, 1994). On the borders of Europe, social
relations are often constructed across national dividing lines. Especially now, given the social consequences of
COVID-19, which include re-bordering processes in Europe, the question of borders and bordering is in the
spotlight. Against this backdrop, this article elaborates on the concept of narratives, which may be crucial for
understanding the complex processes of deconstructing and reconstructing state borders and social boundaries.
By focusing on three types of narratives—individual, public, and spatial—we apply the narrative approach to
exploring divided cities and propose an analytical model that could contribute to an understanding of the processes
occurring in border cities and could thus broaden the field of studies on borders and space
Dawni mieszkańcy Garbar w ujęciu biokulturowym
The present work analyses the bone material unearthed at the graveyard of St Peter the Little’s Church in Garbary. The study is based on research from the years 1978 and 2012. A total of 111 skeletons were analysed, all of them of medium condition, dating back to the modern period. The material’s diversity level was verified by biological distance assessment. Ward’s method was used for selected measurement features of the neurocranium and the facial skeleton. Sex and age were established simultaneously by means of methods commonly applied in anthropology. The assessment was based on the morphology of the skull and pelvic bones as well as the deciduous and permanent teeth eruption sequence. Cranial measurements and indices were subjected to analysis. Osteometric data provided the basis for an analysis of long bone symmetry, limb length and proportions and bone massiveness indices. A multi-planar reconstruction of individuals’ stature was performed by means of regression formulas developed by various authors. Sexual dimorphism index served indirectly as a measurement of the living conditions of individuals in the population, whereas an analysis of muscular and skeletal stress markers on bones allowed us to evaluate build types. Calculated life expectancy table parameters were used to recreate e.g. individuals’ lifespans and life expectancy structure (by age at death) characteristic of historical populations of Krakow.W pracy dokonano analizy materiału kostnego wyeksplorowanego z obszaru cmentarza przy kościele św. Piotra Małego na Garbarach. Badania prowadzone były w latach 1978 i 2012. Analizie poddano 111 szkieletów, o średnim stanie zachowania, datowanych na okres nowożytny. Sprawdzono stopień różnorodności materiału z wykorzystaniem oceny odległości biologicznej. Zastosowano metodę Warda dla wybranych cech pomiarowych mózgoczaszki i twarzoczaszki. Płeć i wiek zostały ocenione kompleksowo z zastosowaniem metod powszechnie przyjętych w antropologii. Wykorzystano ku temu morfologię czaszki i kości miednicznych, jak również sekwencję wyrzynania się zębów mlecznych i stałych. Analizie poddano pomiary i wskaźniki czaszek. Obliczone parametry tablicy wymieralności posłużyły odtworzeniu m.in. długości życia osobników i struktury wymieralności według wieku zmarłych zachodzącej w jednej z dawnych populacji krakowskich

Masquerade of Polish Society—Psychological Determinants of COVID-19 Precautionary Behaviors
The risk of contracting COVID-19 was a very specific situation of uncertainty and ambi-guity, and of course, cognitively interesting for psychologists studying the determinants of behaviors of different personality types. In this study, we set our sights on trying to find a correlation between adherence to wearing masks and receiving vaccinations and having certain character traits that we thought might influence preventive behavior or not. We focused on the Dark Triad—psychopathy, Machiavellianism and narcissism—as well as social approval and the need for cognition closure, as these traits have previously been linked to heightened conspiracy mentalities. We recruited 159 subjects in the experiment, including 53 male and 106 female participants over the age of 18 to take part in an online survey investigating personality and COVID-19 information. The results confirmed our hypothesis that age, empathy, the need for social approval and other psychological traits are the factors that differentiates people who wear face masks from those who do not. However, it seems impossible to define one set of features that would predispose people to not wear face masks. In our study, the importance of psychological features differed depending on the category of public places. We discuss possible implications of these findings and provide direction for future research
